Design and Display

The design of the Samsung Galaxy S24 and the Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus are almost the same. The only difference is the size of the two smartphones. The Plus model is larger than the other. This brings in two benefits, a larger screen and a bigger battery. In terms of the design, there haven’t been many changes compared to the previous year’s Galaxy S23 series.

The only obvious design seems to be the much flatter side frame in the new Galaxy S24 series as opposed to the slightly curved side frame of the Galaxy S23 series. Both smartphones feature a strong body, thanks to the Armor Aluminum body with a glass panel on the rear side. Both smartphones are available in Onyx Black, Marble Grey, Cobalt Violet, Amber Yellow, Jade Green, Sandstone Orange, and Sapphire Blue.

Both smartphones are also protected from dust and water with the IP68 certification. Coming to the display, the Samsung Galaxy S24 features a 6.2-inch display while the Galaxy S24 Plus features a 6.7-inch display. Both displays have Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X panels and come with a plethora of display technologies, including HDR10+ and 120Hz high refresh rate support. The display can also get as bright as 2600 nits under direct sunlight. The display panels are also protected by the Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2.

Memory and Internal

Both Samsung Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus feature the 4nm Qualcomm SM8650-AC Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 5G chipset in the US, Canada, and China. While for other regions, both Samsung Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus feature the Exynos 2400 5G chipset. The choice of different SoCs for different regions has split the opinions of long-time Samsung fans, but not much can be done here. If Samsung had just provided the same SOC for all the smartphones in the Galaxy S24 series like they did last year, fans would been very pleased.

But the reality is much different from the fans’ opinions. In real life, you will hard pressed to find any difference between the two chipsets in day-to-day tasks or even performance-oriented tasks. Both chipsets are extremely well-optimized to provide the best performance possible. Its gaming performance is top of the line and will not disappoint you ever. Also, both smartphones are loaded with Galaxy AI, designed to further enhance user experience.

The new smartphone supports 5G connectivity as well for gigabit-level speeds. For RAM and storage, both Samsung Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus can be purchased with up to 8GB to 12GB of RAM and 128GB to 512GB of internal storage. When it comes to the software side of things, the new smartphones are running on Android 14 with the OneUI 6.1 user interface for better customization support. Having Android 14 out of the box seriously provides a boost to user experience. On top of that, Samsung promised to provide 7 years of software update support.

Camera

Both Samsung Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus smartphones feature the same 50MP triple camera setup. The 50MP primary camera takes some stellar pictures that have great detail levels, a high dynamic range, and a natural color tone as they should be in a flagship smartphone. The camera performance is seriously impressive, one that is capable of beating other flagship smartphones in the industry.

The 12MP ultra-wide camera is also equally capable and can capture pictures with a wide field of view with no visible distortions around the edges of the shots. Its detail levels and color tone are comparable to that of the primary camera. There’s also a 10MP telephoto camera that can capture pictures with 3x optical zoom and the pictures look breathtakingly good. This level of detail levels is rarely seen and there’s no shift in colors when compared to the other sensors.

On the front, both Samsung Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus have the same 12MP selfie camera, which manages to capture some fine details in the subject’s face with a natural skin tone. When it comes to video recording, both smartphones record videos at a maximum of 8K@30FPS from the rear camera while the selfie camera maxes out at 4K@60FPS. The rear cameras also support OIS, gyro-EIS, and a special Super Steady mode for better video stabilization during an action scene recording session.

Battery and Others

The Samsung Galaxy S24 has a Li-Ion 4000mAh long-lasting battery. While the Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus has a Li-Ion 4900mAh long-lasting battery. The difference between the batteries of the two smartphones is quite large and the battery inside the Galaxy S24 Plus will provide a better battery backup. But the chipset efficiency and the optimizations made by Samsung are so good that both smartphones should easily last 1 – 2 days with low to medium usage.

When it comes to charging the battery, the Samsung Galaxy S24 has 25W wired fast charging support, while the Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus has 45W wired fast charging support. This makes quite a bit of difference in the charging scene. The Samsung Galaxy S24 can charge to 50% in 30 minutes, while the Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus can charge up to 65% in the same 30 minutes. This is a real advantage of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus. The smartphone also supports 15W wireless charging technology like before.

Conclusion

Both the Samsung Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus are extremely powerful smartphones that brought some improvements in every department, whether that’s the display, design, chipset, camera, or even the battery. But are these improvements enough to make to upgrade to one of these new smartphones? Well, that depends, if you already own the Samsung Galaxy S23 or any other flagship smartphone released in the last two years, then the upgrade is simply not enough.

You will see the improvements if you do upgrade but they are not enough considering the amount of money you will waste. It’s better to wait for the next generation of Samsung Galaxy S series of smartphones to make the upgrade worth it. But if you are using an older Samsung Galaxy S20, then you should upgrade and you will feel the upgrade in every area, especially in performance, camera, and battery life.

If you are comfortable with a smaller phone and don’t care about the bigger battery the standard Samsung Galaxy S24 will serve you perfectly. But if you need a bigger battery and larger screen, then the S24 Plus makes more sense. The iPhone 15 Plus perfect alternative to the new Samsung Galaxy S24 series compares to price and specs. However, the final decision is up to you, so it is better to choose a smartphone based on your requirements and needs.
