Nokia G400

Nokia G400 Smartphone Review – Around January 2022 at HMD Global Nokia launched the Nokia G400 smartphone. Though the phone was announced in the first quarter of 2022, the company finally release this phone in August for the US smartphone market. Unlike the last few years, we have seen comparatively fewer Nokia phones this year. But, there’s no denying that Nokia always tries to innovate and brings more exciting features.

As for the Nokia G400, the phone’s first impression looks pretty appearing and from the specs, it stands in the sweet spot in the mid-range smartphone. Through this device, you will attain various other amazing perks such as a clean UI experience, better performance, a long-lasting battery, and many more things. The Nokia G400 smartphone also comes with 5G support. So without any further ado, let’s dive into the detailed review of the Nokia G400 Smartphone.

Nokia G400 Smartphone Review

Highlights

  1. The phone starts with a standard 6.58-inches IPS LCD with 120Hz refresh rate support.
  2. As for the software end, the G400 gives the Android 12 out of the box with minimal custom software.
  3. The hardware section brings the Snapdragon 480+ 5G chipset with the Adreno 619 GPU.
  4. Moving to the camera board, you will attain a 48MP triple camera setup with a 16MP selfie camera at the front.
  5. Lastly, the battery section brings a Li-Po 5000 mAh massive battery with a 20W fast charger under the hood.

Design and Display

Like most Nokia phones, the Nokia G400 comes with a pretty design layout with a Meteor Gray shade option to choose from. Although, it would have been a great choice to launch with various color variants. But anyway, the phone doesn’t look that inexpensive compared to the same price bracket phones. The renewed camera module design does look amazing with a curved line format on the back panel.

Yet, the overall design aspect does look pretty repetitive, but still, it’s good to say that the company finally moved to the new camera island design. In terms of weight, the phone is roughly 198 grams, which is decent, while at the same time, the thickness is around 8.8-mm. Once you hold this phone, you will notice the front bezels are quite thick from the nowadays phone.

On the other hand, it’s a piece of great news that the company is rendering a 6.58-inches IPS LCD panel. It renders impressive color and contrast while watching multi-media content and the 120Hz refresh rate gives a better user experience. As for the security feature, you will get a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, while the front display has corning gorilla glass 3 protection on top.

Memory and Internal

The performance section of the Nokia G400 is designed to impress every user who is looking for a way to enjoy their daily activities without facing any lags or processing jester. The 8nm Qualcomm SM4350-AC Snapdragon 480+ 5G chipset is undoubtedly a great choice if you want to explore the internet and scroll around the social media feeds. However, you can’t play games at the highest resolution as the hardware doesn’t support that.

Apart from this, the graphic unit Adreno 619 can handle casual games, but we won’t recommend you play long gaming sessions as it will lead to overheating issues later on. But on the other hand, you will get a pretty clean UI experience with the latest Android 12 interface. Besides this, you can customize various things inside the user interface without being bothered by ads or bloatware apps.

Now, let’s talk about the internal storage unit, the phone offers a dedicated secondary storage unit inside the SIM tray so you don’t have to worry about expanding the storage. At the same time, the smartphone makers bring 4GB RAM with 64GB internal storage.

Camera

The Nokia G400 camera setup is pretty standard as you are getting a regular trio of 48MP primary, 5MP ultra-wide, and 2MP depth lenses. This triple camera would work great even if the company dropped the 2MP lens, and decided to make it a dual camera setup. The reason for this is because that lens is practically useless in your photography session, and even if you try to take portrait photos, the edge detection is not precise.

However, the 48MP primary lens doesn’t disappoint that much and renders pretty impressive colors, saturation, and contrast in daylight photography. The image processing unit handles most of the aspects in a good manner. Although, our low light photos with the regular night mode don’t feel that crisp. You can notice there is oversaturation in some images, while the colors aren’t looking that great either.

Hopefully, the 5MP ultra wide camera lens grants a dynamic range that gives better viewing angles. Aside from this, there’s also a 12MP selfie lens, which gives comparatively pleasing results in the outdoors. However, we don’t find any additional features that give interest to the camera app. As for the video recording, the phone can record up to 1080p resolution videos with both side cameras.

Battery and Others

The battery section renders a colossal size Li-Po 5000 mAh battery that will provide screen time up to 6+ hours for media consumption. As for the gaming, the phone will stay active for more than 7+ hours, but as the phone heats up, you will notice that the battery is draining faster. In normal usage, you can easily use the Nokia G400 for more than a day on a single charge.

Inside the box, the company also includes a 20W fast charger. With this, you don’t have to worry about fueling the phone. Usually, the device will take roughly two hours to refurbish the battery life, which is expected from the charging speed. Although, the sound experience doesn’t feel that significant, having a 3.5 mm jack look like a wonderful decision. The Nokia G400 is priced at $250 (Rs. 19,990 in India) approx.

Conclusion

The Nokia G400 smartphone has pretty basic specs that don’t impact the mid-range segment. However, if you look at the clean UI experience with decent battery life to support your daily activities, this phone would be an amazing deal. However, we won’t deny that the phone also has its equal share of flaws, which might be a deal breaker for many readers.

To give you a rough example, the performance is tolerable, and the graphics are good for casual games, while we won’t recommend this phone to those people who are looking for better camera quality. If we have to suggest an alternative, we ask you to check the Xiaomi Redmi Note 11T Pro which comes with all rounded features and makes this phone a better alternative. Finally, it’s up to you what you want to choose.
