Xiaomi is yet to announce a global release and the device is available only in China for now. In terms of design, it doesn’t look too different from the previous model, Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 but has much better 5G speeds. Today, we are going to find out all that it can offer and what kind of improvements it brings as compared to the previous model. Let’s begin with a detailed review of the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 smartphone.

Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 Smartphone Review

  1. The Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 features an 8.03-inches FoldableLTPO OLED+ panel while the cover display gets a 6.56-inch AMOLED panel.
  2. It is powered by the flagship 4nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, that can reach up to a 1×3.36GHz clocking speed.
  3. The smartphone is pre-loaded with the latest Android 13 OS out of the box with MIUI Fold 14 user interface.
  4. The phone has a 50MP quad-camera system on the back and 20MP selfie cameras for each, main and cover display.
  5. The Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 also has a Li-Po 4800 mAh battery with 67W of fast wired charging and 50W wireless charging support.

Design and Display

In terms of design, very little has changed with the new Xiaomi Mix Fold 3. While the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 only had a glass option, the new Fold 3 brings more options. The rest of the design elements are the same, except for an extra camera lens on the back that wasn’t there on the Fold 2. It is available in Black and Gold color options that are made of glassback. There’s another Black color variant that is made of fiber material called Aramid Fiber.

Glass shatters easily when dropped, which won’t happen with the Aramid Fiber model. The side frame and the foldable hinge are metallic and provide rigidity to the smartphone. Coming to the displays on the smartphone, you will notice there are two displays. One is the main display that folds inward, while the other is a cover display that is smaller than the main foldable one. For the main display, you get an 8.03-inch Foldable LTPO OLED+ panel that arrives with 1300 nits peak brightness.

The cover display gets a 6.56-inch AMOLED panel with 2600 nits of peak brightness. Apart from that, both display features 120Hz refresh rate support, Dolby Vision, and HDR10+ certifications. The cover display is also protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 but there’s no official IP water resistance. We can say that the overall display department offered is an impressive gesture from the Xiaomi brand for its customers. Apart from this, the device weighs around 255-259 grams.

Memory and Internal

The chipset powering the new Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 is the flagship 4nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. The chipset can reach up to a 1×3.36GHz clocking speed, so you can do almost anything without anything ever slowing down. A true multitasking champ built on a 4nm manufacturing process, making the chipset extremely efficient and battery-friendly. The same performance level is also carried over to the gaming side of things.

So, play all your high-fidelity games like Genshin Impact, CODm, and PUBG, among others, with the highest graphical and FPS options. The Adreno 740 GPU is extremely powerful and doesn’t overheat. The large size of the foldable smartphone also helps in dissipating heat. The smartphone comes with the latest Android 13 OS out of the box with MIUIFold 14interface, which is a specialized version to enhance your foldable experience. Apart from this, you may face some bloatware apps on the device that can be annoying to users.

The new Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 comes with 12GB to 16GB of RAM & 256GB to 1TB of UFS 4.0 internal storage. The UFS 4.0 internal storage is extremely fast. The smartphone also has support for 5G connectivity for gigabit+ speeds. With this hardware, you won’t face any performance issues on the foldable smartphone.

Camera

The Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 has a 50MP quad camera setup on the back. The quad camera system includes a 50MP main camera, a 10MP ultra-wide camera, a 10MP telephoto camera with 3.2x optical zoom capabilities, and another 10MP telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom capabilities. The main 50MP camera has got some serious optimizations from Xiaomi and this allows the camera to shoot some breathtaking shots with great details and saturated colors.

The 12MP ultra-wide also manages to produce some great shots with little to no color shift compared to the main sensor. Then there’s the 10MPtelephoto camera with 3.2x optical zoom, which is capable of providing some great zoomed shots that look crisp and the sharpness of the shots is on point. There’s another 10MP telephoto camera but this time with a 5x optical zoom, which has some of the most impressive zoomed shots.

The details of these shots come out cleaner than any other foldable smartphone. Even the pictures shot at night are truly spectacular. Let’s talk about the selfie cameras now. There are two selfie cameras, one for each display. The main foldable display has a 20MP punch hole sensor and the same goes for the cover display as well. Both selfie cameras have the same sensor and the pictures coming out of this sensor have a good amount of detail and a very natural skin tone.

When it comes to video recording, the rear cameras can shoot up to 8K videos@24FPS with OIS, Dolby Vision, and HDR. But the selfie camera can only shoot videos at a maximum of 1080p@60FPS. The only thing that may disappoint a user is the missing gyro-EIS stabilization support on the device, however, everything is fine on this foldable smartphone.

Battery and Others

The Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 foldable smartphone has a Li-Po 4800mAh battery inside the smartphone, which will provide a full day’s worth of battery, with moderate usage. This is thanks to the inclusion of power-efficient components inside. So, do a bit of photography, Netflix streaming, and a bit of gaming, and you will still end up spending a full day before needing to recharge again. But when you need to recharge the smartphone, you will be glad to know that the smartphone supports 67W of wired fast charging that can fully charge the smartphone in just 40 minutes.

If you are not a fan of wired charging, there’s support for 50W fastwireless charging as well and it can fully charge the smartphone in just about 55 to 60 minutes. Apart from that, the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 has support for triple-band Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.3, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, NFC, stereo speakers, and a USB Type-C port for charging. As for pricing, the phone starts at $1485 (Rs 110,000 in India) approx.

Conclusion

The Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 smartphone brings some substantial improvements compared to the Mix Fold 2. It’s all in the internals that’s what makes the smartphone run. So, the new internals will surely improve your user experience. It provides tremendous value and there are no other foldable smartphones that can provide the same user experience as the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 does. If you want a great display, processor, camera, battery life, and most importantly, a solid user experience, then the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 can be a good choice.

It also has 5G which will further enhance the internet connectivity and thereby the user experience but it is not without any cons. The Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 lacks dust or water resistance, which is not a good look for the flagship smartphone and there’s no 4k recording from the selfie camera as well. But if you want a foldable phone then Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 would be a better option for the foldable smartphone but you need to pay a little more for it. Anyways, the final decision is up to you, therefore choose wisely as per your requirements.
