Vivo y55

Vivo Y55 Smartphone Review – The Vivo Y55 is designed to be an affordable 5G smartphone that appeals to users who want new technology such as 5G without spending a ton of money. This smartphone is meant to provide an all-rounded package at an affordable rate and it ticks all the right boxes to appeal to the new generation of users. The smartphone features a very refreshing design, especially the camera module, which looks a lot better than the competition.

Most other smartphones in this price category feature boring designs and very bloated and quite frankly, ugly camera module designs. If a large display, Full HD resolution, amazing camera performance, and Android 11 OS out-of-the-box certainly are the features you want in your new smartphone, then this phone will not disappoint. Let’s start with a detailed review of the Vivo Y55 smartphone.

Vivo Y55 Smartphone Review

Highlights

  1. The Vivo Y55 features 6.58 inches IPS Full HD display with a tall 20:9 aspect ratio.
  2. The chipset is the Mediatek Dimensity 700 5G SoC that goes up to 2.2GHz clocking speed.
  3. It is powered by Android 11 OS with Funtouch 12 User Interface.
  4. The main rear camera sensor is a 50MP sensor with an 8MP selfie sensor.
  5. The Li-Po battery of the Vivo Y55 has a capacity of 5000mAh and it comes with an 18W fast charger.

Design and Display

In terms of design, the phone looks quite nice, especially considering the boring design of the other smartphones in the same price bracket. The flat design of the back and the sides really gives the phone a modern iPhone-like look which is quite good and a lot of phones have started adopting the flat design. The camera module is quite small while the phone comes in two colors, black and blue.

The black color variant comes in traditional-looking matte black but the blue color variant has a certain glow and this glow features a combination of blue, violet, and orange-ish color. This color variant is our favorite here and it honestly looks quite good.

Design-wise, it’s quite nice, especially at such an affordable price. The display powering the smartphone has 6.58 inches IPS LCD panel with a Full HD display but sadly no higher refresh rate. Also, the display has a water drop notch, which houses the selfie camera. Besides this, the display is quite good and shows accurate colors.

Memory and Internal

When it comes to the internal specifications of the phone and what’s powering it, you get a 7nm MediaTek Dimensity 700 5G SoC that goes up to a max of 2.2GHz clocking speed. Out of the total of 8 cores, 2 cores are based on Cortex-A76, and the rest of the 6 cores are lower-powered Cortex-A55 cores. The inclusion of 2 powerful A76 cores makes this processor very fast and powerful enough for almost everything.

The GPU inside this processor is Mali-G57 MC2, which is powerful enough to handle games such as PUBG, CODm, and even Genshin Impact. This GPU promises to provide improved graphics performance compared to the other phones in the same price bracket.

This CPU and GPU configuration is quite powerful and can handle all your day-to-day apps as well as power-hungry apps and games. Being a new smartphone, you would expect the phone to come with the latest Android 12 out-of-the-box, but that’s where it disappoints. Instead, it comes with Android 11 with Funtouch 12 UI on top of it.

As for memory and internal storage, you get 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage for the base variant, which is actually enough for budget devices but there is another option available with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. If you feel 128GB is still not enough for you, you can get a MicroSD card as the phone supports a dedicated MicroSD slot. Last, but not least, the phone has 5G support.

Camera

The main highlight of the triple rear camera system is the 50MP main sensor as the rest of the sensors are just 2MP macro and 2MP depth sensors. You could say there is a bit of trickery going on considering those 2MP sensors are pretty useless, but you can expect that much in an affordable budget smartphone anyway.

However, the main 50MP camera is quite good. The 50MP sensor takes decent images with natural colors, with plenty of details and even the human subjects are perfectly captured. The skin tone and the facial details are also captured beautifully and look quite natural.

The daytime shots were decent, and so were the phone’s nighttime shots. The images taken during the night with the night mode on, have a good amount of details with almost no noise in the images. The 8MP selfie camera, however, is not very optimized and can take better photos with future software updates.

It can take decent selfies but the detail is just average and for video recording, the phone manages to shoot up to 1080p@30FPS for both the rear camera and the selfie camera, but the rear camera provides gyro-based EIS stabilization for better video quality.

Battery and Others

The Vivo Y55 has a Li-Po battery with a capacity of 5000mAh and it comes with an 18W fast charging, which is quite amazing at this price range. Also, the processor is very efficient and consumes very little power so the battery won’t run out easily. You can easily get 2 days battery if you don’t run very heavy apps or games.

This is actually quite good compared to other smartphones in the market. Apart from that, the phone also has dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, a headphone jack, and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor. The base variant of the Vivo Y55 costs $275 (Rs 21,000 in India) approx.
