Realme Narzo N53

Realme Narzo N53 Smartphone Review – The Realme Narzo N53 was recently launched on May 2023, in India and some other markets as a budget alternative to other mid-rangers around the same price tag. The budget market has been saturated with smartphones that carry the same specifications and features. They bring nothing new to the industry and innovation has slowed down a lot in the last couple of years.

One may even say that modern smartphones have downgraded specs compared to the smartphones that were sold previously and they are not wrong. But Realme promises to change all that and bring real innovation back to the budget smartphone industry. The Realme Narzo N53 is their attempt to do this. Let’s check out the Realme Narzo N53 smartphone review if they managed to deliver on their promises with this review.

Realme Narzo N53 Smartphone Review

Highlights

  1. The Realme Narzo N53 features a 6.74-inch IPS display with Full HD+ resolution, 90Hz high refresh rate, and 450 nits of peak brightness.
  2. The chipset inside the phone is the Unisoc Tiger T612 octa-core SoC clocked at 2×1.8GHz.
  3. The phone arrives with Android 13 out-of-the-box with Realme UI for more customization options.
  4. The main rear camera sensor has a 50MP sensor, while the selfie camera has an 8MP sensor.
  5. The phone has a Li-Po 5000 mAh battery and supports 33W fast charging.

Design and Display

The design of the Realme Narzo N53 is what you would experience from a premium/flagship smartphone. The smartphone is available in two colors, Gold and Black. The smartphone’s body is made out of plastic for both the mid-frame and the back, but it is made of greater quality. So, it feels fine to the touch and doesn’t feel chip. Also, the mid-frame features a brushed aluminum finish, so it looks super premium. The Gold color in particular looks stunning and it is meant for young and Gen-Z users.

However, if you don’t want something flashy, you can opt for the Black color, which looks simple and subtle in its elegance. Coming to the display, the smartphone features a 6.74-inch Super Full HD+ IPS display with a high refresh rate of 90Hz, which should make the user experience a whole lot smoother. The display also gets as bright as 450 nits under direct sunlight. This is not the brightest screen, but should be bright enough to be used outside.

There are brighter screens available in other smartphones, but not around the same price budget that this smartphone is in. The bezels of the phone are quite narrow, which should provide you with a great experience when streaming movies and TV series. The display is excellent and features accurate colors. However, there’s no protection on the glass screen, so get a cover or tempered glass if you are worried about the screen.

Memory and Internal

The Realme Narzo N53 smartphone is powered by the Unisoc Tiger T612 octa-core SoC, which is clocked at 2×1.8GHz. This chipset doesn’t have a  5G modem, so there’s no 5G connectivity, unfortunately. The CPU part of the chipset has an octa-core configuration that can clock up to 2×1.8 GHz. While 1.8GHz may seem a bit low, don’t let that fool you. The CPU is more powerful than many CPUs that have a 2GHz clock rate.

It has enough CPU power to keep all your daily apps running faster and smoother. The GPU in this chipset is the Mali-G57, which is quite the capable GPU that is usually not found in smartphones of this price budget. It will run most of the popular games that users play these days. It can even play some graphics-intensive games such as PUBGm, CODm, or even Genshin Impact.

For the software side of things, the smartphone runs on Android 13 with a Realme UI user interface for more customizability. The smartphone comes in 2 memory configurations, such as 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, 6GB/8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage and to put the cherry on top, there’s even support for microSD as well, which is just amazing.

Camera

The Realme Narzo N53 phone has a dual-camera system, with a 50MP sensor as the main camera and a depth sensor. The pictures from the main camera preserve most of the details even when you zoom in closer. The pictures have a balanced dynamic range and colors are saturated, which makes the pictures more appealing and ready for posting on the internet without needing to edit them. Realme smartphones tend to provide great camera systems in their systems, even in their mid-range lineup.

On the front, the smartphone has an 8MP selfie camera, which is capable of taking decent selfies with even skin tone and high dynamic range. The pictures have enough details to make them good enough to post on social media without needing to apply any filters. If you take a lot of portrait pictures, you will be happy to know that the portrait picture capability of the smartphone is also quite good. The background bokeh in the selfies appears very natural and the edges around the human subject, such as the hair strands, blend in perfectly with the background blur.

Even the night photography doesn’t disappoint as the sensor is optimized to capture more light from the environment. But don’t expect the photos to be on the same level as Samsung Galaxy S23 or iPhones. These pictures are good compared to other smartphones’ camera capabilities in this price range. When it comes to video recording, the rear camera maxes out at 1080p@30FPS and the selfie camera maxes out at 720p@30FPS.

Battery and Others

The new Realme Narzo N53 has a Li-Po 5000 mAh battery that puts away battery anxiety that some people tend to have. So those who don’t like putting their phones on charging every day will be happy to know that this smartphone can easily last up to 2 days with light to moderate usage.

Even with some light gaming, the battery should easily last one day and when this battery does run out of juice, there’s a 33W wired fast charging to quickly bring the battery level back to 100%. Apart from that, the phone also has support for dual-band Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.0, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, and a USB Type-C connector for charging. The phone is available on sale starting at $108 (Rs 8,999 in India) approx.

Conclusion

The Realme Narzo N53 smartphone has provided everything that is lacking in most modern smartphones in the same price budget. It provides a display with Full HD+ resolution that other smartphones don’t have in the same price range. The design of other smartphones would be too simple or lackluster and the performance would be severely compromised. But the Realme Narzo N53 excels in these areas as well.

The smartphone goes a few steps forward and provides a great camera, amazing bezel-less screen, dual-band Wi-Fi, excellent battery life, fast charging, and a lot more that significantly improves the out-of-the-box experience that a new user will have when they buy the smartphone.

That’s what makes this smartphone so great. But this smartphone is yet to be released globally. So, if you live somewhere where this smartphone hasn’t launched yet, then you may want to keep an eye on the Xiaomi Redmi 12 smartphone that is going to launch globally soon. This smartphone is rumored to provide similar specs with better camera capabilities for a similar starting price. So, keep an eye out for that.
