Samsung Galaxy C55

Samsung Galaxy C55 Smartphone Review – The Samsung Galaxy C55 was announced in April 2024 in China. The C in the name of the smartphone means it’s China-exclusive. However, recent leaks suggest that it is launching in India under the name Galaxy F55 and may also launch globally under different names. The Galaxy C55 is itself a rebrand of the Galaxy M55 but with a new finish.

The smartphone features a vegan leather design that looks quite elegant. It seems Samsung wants its users in China to be impressed. The smartphone also includes modern 5G connectivity. However, there are equally great smartphone companies in this market, so Samsung has to up their game. Let’s begin with a detailed review of the Samsung Galaxy C55 and see if this smartphone is worth purchasing.

Samsung Galaxy C55 Smartphone Review

Highlights

  1. The Samsung Galaxy C55 features a 6.7-inches Super AMOLED+ display with a 120Hz high refresh rate.
  2. The chipset featured in the smartphone is the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 5G octa-core SoC that is capable of reaching clock speeds of 1×2.4 GHz.
  3. The smartphone arrives with Android 14 with OneUI 6.1 for more customization options.
  4. The Samsung Galaxy C55 has a 50MP triple rear camera system with a 50MP selfie camera.
  5. The phone has a 5000 mAh battery and supports 45W wired fast charging.

Design and Display

The Samsung Galaxy C55 features a great design that not only looks impressive but also feels good. However, the side and the mid-frame are made of polycarbonate body, but it is strong with little to no flex. Also, the side frame is curved, which feels solid in the hand and shouldn’t slip out of your hands. Overall, it’s a great design and it looks majestic, especially in the Orange color with Gold accents. The smartphone is also available in a plain Black color option.

On the front of the smartphone, there’s a 6.7-inch display. The display features a Super AMOLED+ panel with a 120Hz refresh rate. It has an FHD+ resolution and its brightness can reach 1000 nits under sunlight, so using the smartphone outside will be of no issue. However, there is no display protection or water resistance, at least not officially. So, it’s best not to take a dip in the pool with this smartphone.

Memory and Internal

Samsung provided the Samsung Galaxy C55 with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 5G chipset that can reach clock speeds of up to 1×2.4 GHz. This is a decently powerful 7 series chipset, so it should easily run all of your daily apps smoothly. We were expecting something like the newer Snapdragon 7 Gen 2 or 3 chipset considering the price, but that’s not what we got.

The Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 is still a more than decent chipset. The CPU side of performance should scale similarly to the gaming side as well. The chipset has the Adreno 644 GPU, which is more than decent. It should be able to run games like PUBGm, CODm, Summoners War, and even Genshin Impact at decent graphical quality and framerates.

The smartphone runs on Android 14 out of the box with OneUI 6.1 and it is slated to get 4 years of Android updates and 5 years of security updates. The smartphone also supports 5G connectivity for a low-latency gaming experience and high-speed downloads. As for memory and storage, the Samsung Galaxy C55 is available for purchase with up to 8GB to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. There’s also a microSDXC slot for memory expansion, which is a win for this smartphone.

Camera

The Samsung Galaxy C55 has a 50MP triple rear-camera setup. The primary rear camera features a 50MP sensor with OIS and this sensor manages to capture great details, natural color tone, and high dynamic range. The quality of these images could go toe to toe with other smartphones in the same price range. The details are preserved properly without messing with the exposure of the scene.

The second camera is an 8MP ultra-wide camera and it takes somewhat average pictures. The details are not on the same level as the primary camera and the pictures have an overall softer look. As for the front selfie camera, you get a 50MP sensor that is quite capable. This sensor can capture some great selfies with even skin tones.

As for video recording, the smartphone can shoot up to 4K@30FPS from the main rear camera as well as the selfie camera. Also, the main rear camera has both OIS and gyro-EIS, so videos should have stable footage.

Battery and Others

The new Samsung Galaxy C55 has a 5000 mAh battery that should provide about 1 – 2 days of battery life with medium to light usage, including a bit of camera, social media, browsing, and texting. But, if you play a lot of games or do video editing, the battery will drain a lot faster and the smartphone may not last a full day.

However, Samsung has equipped the smartphone with 45W fast wired charging capability. So, it has the capability of fully charging the smartphone in about an hour. Other than that, the smartphone has support for Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, an under-display fingerprint sensor, NFC, stereo speakers, and a USB Type-C connector for charging. The smartphone is available for  $287 (Rs 23,990 in India) approx.

Conclusion

The Samsung Galaxy C55 was exclusively launched in China, a market that is dominated by homegrown Chinese smartphone makers that provide far better specs than this. This smartphone doesn’t have a chance against them, definitely not with the specs it has and the price point it targets. That’s because compared to other phones, the Galaxy C55 has a 2-year-old chipset.

The chipset is not bad, but it’s just that other chipsets have far better specs. Also, Samsung promised four years of OS updates and five years of security updates. Samsung did a great job with this commitment and it will certainly boost the longevity of the smartphone. Overall, it’s a good smartphone, and its components, such as the display, memory, sound, camera, and even the fingerprint sensor are quite decent.

Considering the not-so-great performance, the pricing is not justified. However, if you don’t mind the performance and like the other aspects of the smartphone, then you can go for it. The best alternative to this smartphone would be the Samsung Galaxy M55, which offers far better performance while asking for approximately the same price tag. However, the final decision is up to you, so it is better to choose a smartphone based on your requirements and needs.
