Vivo S17 Pros and Cons

Vivo Y200 Smartphone Review – Vivo Y200 launched on October 2023 as their newest mid-range smartphone. It comes with some power-packed components inside considering the price point. It even comes with 5G and is only available in India as of now. Vivo has yet to announce any global release and usually, the company doesn’t release these budget offerings globally.

But for Indian fans, it should be an interesting launch considering all that it has to offer and its design is absolutely top-notch. It’s flagship worth from a purely looks perspective. But it has a lot more to offer. So, let’s begin with a detailed review of the Vivo Y200 smartphone and see if this smartphone is worth purchasing.

Vivo Y200 Smartphone Review

Highlights

  1. The Vivo Y200 has a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution, 120Hz high refresh rate, and 800 nits of peak brightness.
  2. The SoC inside the smartphone is the Qualcomm SM4375 Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 SoC with clock speeds at 2×2.0GHz.
  3. The smartphone comes with Android 13 with a Funtouch 13 user interface for better customizability.
  4. The main rear camera of the smartphone has a 64MP dual camera system while the selfie camera has a 16MP sensor.
  5. The smartphone is powered by a Li-Ion 4800 mAh battery with a 44W fast charger (wired).

Design and Display

The Vivo Y200 is designed to impress. It comes glass design, which makes it premium to the touch. The smartphone brings glass materials at a price where most smartphones opt for plastic materials. As for the design, there are no over-the-top design elements or shiny patterns. It features plain colors in a frosted finish, giving the smartphone a premium and flagship-like appearance.

There is also a white LED ring that can be used as a notification LED and also as a secondary flash. The Ring LED can ensure that you don’t miss any important notifications. On the front, Vivo Y200 features a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution. Vivo is not using any sub-standard HD display to compensate for the budget price tag.

It’s a proper AMOLED display with accurate colors and gets decently bright at 800 nits of peak brightness. So, outdoor visibility wouldn’t be an issue. On top of that, the display supports a 120Hz high refresh rate, which is crucial to get a smooth butter-like user interface. The smartphone will be available in Jungle Green, and Desert Gold.

Memory and Internal

The Vivo Y200 comes equipped with 6nm Qualcomm SM4375 Snapdragon 4 Gen  1 5G SoC. The smartphone has a clock speed of 2×2.0GHz and supports 5G connectivity for gigabit speed levels. This SoC has enough performance to run all your daily apps and other things you do on a smartphone smoothly and efficiently. For gaming, the Snapdragon chipset comes included with the Adreno 619 GPU.

It can run games like PUBG mobile, CODm, and even Genshin Impact at decent framerates. But don’t expect high-end graphics out of this chipset as it is not capable of that. For RAM and storage, the smartphone comes with up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. When it comes to the software, the Vivo Y200 is running on Android 13 with a Funtouch 13 user interface for better customization support.

Camera

The Vivo Y200 comes with a 64MP dual-camera system. The main camera features a 64MP sensor and its pictures are excellent with good enough detail, great dynamic range, superior white balance, and saturated colors. The portrait mode pictures are also decent. The background bokeh is natural and the edges around the human subject blend in with the background blur accurately.

But, if the lighting gets dark, images can suffer a bit and there will be a drop in colors and detail levels. That’s not to say that the night mode is not good. It’s decent but don’t expect a mirage in low-light situations. The Ring LED along with the flash can help in some environments. On the front of the Vivo Y200, there’s a 16MP sensor.

It can take decent selfies and the picture quality is good enough to post on social media without needing to apply any filters. As for video recording, the Vivo Y200 can shoot at a maximum of 1080p@30FPS from both the rear and selfie cameras.

Battery and Others

The Vivo Y200 has a Li-Ion 4800 mAh non-removable battery and it can provide excellent backup. It can easily last for 2 days or more with a lower usage. However, if you play a lot of games, then the battery will last less. But that shouldn’t worry you as the smartphone supports 44W wired fast charging.

This 44W charger will be bundled in the box and it charges the battery to 50% in just 28 minutes. Apart from that, the phone also has Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.1, an under-display fingerprint scanner, GPS, and a USB Type-C port. The smartphone is available for purchase at $263 (Rs 21,999 in India) approx.

Conclusion

The Vivo Y200 possesses a unique set of specs and features to make it an attractive value-for-money choice for new smartphone buyers. Features such as 5G connectivity, decent display, flagship-like design, decent processor, and a lot more. All these make this smartphone an attractive choice. It’s a decently great smartphone. However, this is not the only smartphone in the market.

In a budget market that is already saturated, the Vivo Y200 seems like just another smartphone. The Vivo Y200 has nothing unique to offer that other smartphones don’t already have in the same price bracket. Other smartphones such as the Vivo iQOO Z7 Pro offer far better specs in almost every way at a similar price point. However, the final decision is up to you, so it is better to choose a smartphone based on your requirements and needs.
