Oppo Reno 10 Pro

Oppo Reno 10 Pro Plus Smartphone Review – The Oppo Reno 10 Pro Plus is the top model of the new Reno 10 series of smartphones and it was launched in May 2023. This is a proper flagship camera smartphone and comes with the features needed to deliver a fantastic camera experience. Oppo thinks it has what it takes to deliver a camera experience that rivals the likes of Pixel, Samsung Galaxy, and even iPhones. In fact, they think their new Reno 10 series of smartphones are better than them.

Anyways, every company thinks their smartphone’s cameras are the best, but it falls onto us to review the smartphone and judge whether the smartphone can truly deliver what it claims. On top of that, the smartphone needs to deliver a similar experience in other areas as well. A smartphone’s camera can be 10 out of 10, but it still won’t matter much if the display where users will view the photos isn’t good enough to display the true quality of the photos.

It needs to deliver a great experience on every other side of the smartphone to deliver a true flagship experience. So, let’s begin with a detailed review of the Oppo Reno 10 Pro Plus smartphone and see if this smartphone is worth purchasing.

Design and Display

The Oppo Reno 10 Pro Plus is a smartphone that looks absolutely beautiful. It’s elegant in its unique way. The Gold colored model, in particular, looks like an actual gold bar. It’s bright, and flashy and will sway all attention towards it. It is available in two other colors, Glossy Purple and Silvery Grey. The back panel is made out of glass and the surface is either glossy or matte depending on the color of your choice. The side frame is made out of plastic, which will give the smartphone its rigidity, which would have been better if it were metallic.

The side edges are also rounded for a comfortable hold when using the smartphone. On the front, you have the display, which is protected by Asahi Glass AGC DT-Star2protection, which is just an acronym for a version of Asahi Dragon Tail Glass that is just as good as Corning’s Gorilla Glass Victus. Speaking of the display, you get a 6.74-inch AMOLED display panel with up to 120Hz refresh rate and Full HD+ resolution.

The panel can also display up to 1 Billion colors and can get as bright as 1400 nits peak brightness under direct sunlight. The display is HDR 10+ certified, so playing HDR10+ content correctly is not going to be an issue on the smartphone. There is nothing in the display department to complain about, however, a user expects an OLED panel in the premium flagship segment of the smartphone for the premium price he is going to spend on. Aside from this, the device is lightweight and has slim bezels which is quite impressive.

Memory and Internal

Oppo has outfitted the Oppo Reno 10 Pro+ with a 4nm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, which has one of the fastest Android CPUs in the world. The CPU  can reach up to a 1X3.0GHz clocking speed, which makes it strikingly close to the current flagship, Snapdragon 8 Gen2. So, you will hardly see any performance difference between the two. It will run any apps that you use every day with speed. The transition between apps and the animations will also be a lot smoother.

The Adreno 730 GPU in the chipset is also powerful enough to run modern games like Genshin Impact, CODm, and PUBG with high graphics options and smoother framerates. As for memory and storage, the phone is available for purchase with 12GB to 16GB of RAM and 256GB to 512GB of storage. The smartphone comes with the latest Android 13 OS with ColorOS 13.1 user interface, which may have some bloatware apps.

The chipset also has support for 5G connectivity, so you can enjoy gigabit speed on this smartphone. All in all, the device arrives with a powerful performance, however, it is still not clear why the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC is not included in the package. Anyways, the difference between the two is negligible. Apart from this, Oppo could have extended the user experience if provided the device with Oxygen OS for a stock-like experience that a user wants from a premium device.

Camera

The Oppo Reno 10 Pro+ has a triple rear camera system that features a 50MP sensor as the primary camera. For the periscopic telephoto camera, it has a 64MP sensor, and for the ultra-wide camera, it has an 8MP sensor. The photos from the primary 50MP sensor tend to have great details with saturated colors and a high dynamic range. The 8MP ultra-wide sensor also manages the same amazing shots, but the detail levels fall behind when compared to the primary and some shots may look soft, especially during dusk.

However, that changes with the telephoto sensor. The 64MP periscopic telephoto zoom sensor is optically stabilized and can get 3x zoomed shots, which can be further expanded with digital zoom and the results are simply astonishing. Speaking of shooting during the night, the sensors are optimized to capture twice as much light, so the photos shot at night tend to have more details.

The selfie camera at the front consists of a 32MP sensor, which can capture some great selfies with perfect white balance and even skin tones. For video recording, the Oppo Reno 10 Pro+ can shoot up to 4Kvideos@60FPS from the main rear camera, but the selfie camera can only shoot at 1080p@30FPS max. Also, the main camera has support for OIS and gyro-EIS, which will further stabilize any footage you shoot through this smartphone. On the other hand, the front camera has gyro-EIS for stabilization. The overall camera setup is decent, while 8K recording is missing on the device.

Battery and Others

Oppo has included a Li-Po 4700 mAh battery for the Oppo Reno 10 Pro+. It can last about 1 – 2 days of moderate usage that includes social media, texting, calling, and some mild photography. But if you play a lot of games or use video editing, then the smartphone will lose battery quickly and may not last a full day. However, you will be glad to know that the smartphone supports 100Wfast wired charging which will fully charge the smartphone in about 25 – 30 mins.

The smartphone also supports reverse-wired charging, which will allow you to charge your portable devices such as Bluetooth earphones. The smartphone also has an under-display fingerprint sensor, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, an Infrared sensor, stereo speakers, GPS, and a USB Type C port for charging. The price of the smartphone starts at $849 (Rs 70,000 in India) approx.

Conclusion

The Oppo Reno 10 Pro+ provides everything they claimed and then some more. They claimed to provide a flagship camera experience. The photos are sharp with rich colors and Even when you zoom in, the details are preserved preciously.

This excellency is taken over to the design, display, processing, and even the battery, which provides a full day of battery backup. The smartphone doesn’t underperform in any department of minor issues such as the absence of an AMOLED panel, the latest Snapdragon SoC, 8K recording support, wireless charging, water-resistant coating, and a stock user experience in the premium segment make us think twice when alternatives in the same segment arrive with all these set of features.

No doubt, the smartphone satisfies the user’s needs while every one of us expects the wanted device to justify the amount. You can go with this device, however, you can also consider Motorola Edge 40 Pro which lies in the same segment and offers the missings of the Oppo Reno 10 Pro+. Anyways, the final decision is in your hands so choose a device accordingly.
