Meizu 20

Meizu 20 Smartphone Review – The Meizu 20 smartphone from the house of Meizu, is the company’s latest flagship smartphone of 2023. It features almost everything you ask for in a flagship smartphone including a flagship design, processor, camera, and battery. The smartphone was announced on March 2023 and it will go on sale sometime in the month of May 2023. Apart from this, the device comes with robust fast charging support and huge inbuilt storage options.

Also, there are a lot of color options to choose from and that is quite an interesting thing under the flagship segment. Usually, the brands don’t offer a variety of color options for their flagship devices. The Meizu 20 smartphone offers impressive performance, design, and features, but it seems that the phone lags some specs. So Let’s head toward the Meizu 20 review to find out more details about this phone.

Meizu 20 Smartphone Review

Highlights

  1. The Meizu 20 features a 6.55 inches OLED display panel with an advanced 144Hz refresh rate.
  2. Meizu 20 is powered by the latest and greatest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset for smooth and fluid performance.
  3. The smartphone is running on the Flyme 10 OS, which is an Android fork.
  4. The smartphone also features a 50MP triple-camera system and a 16MP selfie camera.
  5. Powering the Meizu 20 is the large Li-Po 4700 mAh battery with 67W fast wired charging support.

Design and Display

The design featured in the Meizu 20 is what you would call a flagship design that looks similar to the Meizu 20 Pro. Throughout history, most of the famous art pieces are actually quite simple. Art is about elegance and not fancy, and that’s what the Meizu 20 is all about. It’s about class and elegance. It features a metallic side frame that holds both the display and the back of the smartphone. Most importantly, the edges are all flat except for the curved corners. But the side edges are quite flat and sharp. Holding the phone would certainly give off some iPhone-like vibe, which is actually a good thing. The grip is solid and the phone’s weight is well distributed. On top of that, there’s also an IP54 rating for splash resistance.

It’s a solid device and there’s no doubt about it, besides this, the smartphone features a 6.55 inches FHD OLED display panel. Alongside this, they outfitted the display with a 144Hz refresh rate, 1 Billion colors, and support for 800 nits HBM brightness. This makes this smartphone a perfect companion for those who travel frequently. Apart from this, you can pick this phone in multiple color options – Gray, Yellow, Mint, and Rose Gold.

Memory and Internal

The Meizu 20 is powered by the latest and greatest flagship processor and that’s the 4nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. It’s the fastest Android chipset to date and can handle everything you throw at it, including heavy games. There isn’t a game or an app that it can’t run. It’s an absolute beast chipset. It can juggle through multiple apps like how a hot blade slices through butter. This chipset can reach up to a 1×3.2GHz clocking speed and provide sustained high-performance gaming, thanks to the large vapor chamber cooling system that keeps it cool.

It dissipates the heat around to keep your processor from overheating, which would have led to thermal throttling and may have ruined your gaming performance. The Adreno 740 GPU is an absolute beast when it comes to gaming. Apart from that, the phone also has 12GB of RAM coupled with 128GB to 512GB of internal storage. The smartphone comes with the Flyme 10 OS which is an Android fork and supports 5G connectivity.

Camera

The phone has a triple rear camera system with a 50MP sensor as the main camera and a 16MP sensor as the ultra-wide camera. The main camera has OIS and can shoot pictures with excellent dynamic range, vibrant colors, stunning details, and great white balance. It also has a 16MP ultrawide camera, which also takes some incredible pictures and comes close to the levels of the main camera, but certain details can be missing and colors are not as accurate as the main camera. The portrait mode is also quite good while a 5MP lens is also present on the trio.

It manages to capture the pictures perfectly and the edges of the subject look quite natural. The selfie camera is a 32MP sensor that can take some great selfies with a lot of details. Even during the night, the images produced look quite decent with a good amount of details and colors. When it comes to video recording, the Meizu 20 can shoot up to 8K from the main camera with Ring-LED flash support. The footage recorded from the rear camera is quite stable as the camera features OIS combined with gyro-EIS.

Battery and Others

The Meizu 20 phone has a Li-Po 4700 mAh battery that can power the smartphone for about 2 days on general day-to-day usage. However, that change from person to person, depending on their use cases. If you are someone who likes to just take some calls and text a few friends, this phone may even carry on for the third day. Then again if you play a lot of games, it will not last even a full day.

However, the smartphone has support for up to 67W of fast wired charging, so charging the smartphone won’t take too long. It also has an under-display ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, which will take care of your phone’s security aspects. As it’s an ultrasonic sensor, it’s extremely fast and accurate. Apart from that, you also get Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.3, stereo speakers, GPS, and a USB Type C port for charging. The smartphone is yet to be released and may cost $438 (Rs 35.990 in India) approx for the base variant.

Conclusion

The Meizu 20 smartphone claims to be a flagship smartphone and feels to meet the expectations of a flagship user. It provides a great display, design, performance, decent camera, and battery, but a flagship smartphone has to provide an all-around feature list that the Meizu 20 fails to deliver. Lack of water resistance, absence of Gorilla Glass screen protection, and wireless charging are big downsides of this device. Apart from this, the device is lightweight despite having a huge battery capacity. Also, the device carries the latest comms and sensors that are mandatory to be called a flagship smartphone.

Most other flagship smartphones have them these days. overall, if you are a fan of Meizu, then you can definitely go for this smartphone, but in case you are looking for an alternative, then you can check out the Redmi Note 12 Turbo smartphone, which comes with almost similar specs and is more value for money.
