ZTE Nubia Flip

ZTE Nubia Flip Smartphone Review – ZTE Nubia Flip is a foldable phone that was announced at the MWC 2024 event in February 2024. The actual launch of the smartphone is expected to happen sometime in April 2024, but ZTE is yet to announce which countries it’s going to launch. It should be available globally considering ZTE’s past launches.

But don’t expect that anytime soon. This new foldable smartphone looks eerily similar to the Tecno Phantom V Flip, which is a good thing as it has a great design. It also comes with all the latest technologies, including 5G technology. Let’s begin with a detailed review of the ZTE Nubia Flip smartphone to see what else it offers and if this smartphone is worth purchasing.

ZTE Nubia Flip Smartphone Review

Highlights

  1. The ZTE Nubia Flip’s main foldable display has a 6.9-inches Foldable OLED screen with 120Hz high refresh rate support. While the cover display consists of a 1.43-inch OLED display.
  2. The SoC inside the foldable smartphone is the Qualcomm SM7450-AB Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 5G chipset,  capable of reaching clock speeds of 1×2.4 GHz.
  3. The new foldable smartphone comes with Android 13 OS with a clean user interface.
  4. The ZTE Nubia Flip has a 50MP dual rear-camera system while it has a 16MP selfie camera system on the front.
  5. The ZTE Nubia Flip is powered by a 4310 mAh battery with 33W wired fast charging.

Design and Display

The design of the ZTE Nubia Flip seems like a clone of Tecno’s Phantom V Flip phone. However, if you look closer, you will realize that they are a lot different. The ZTE Nubia Flip has a flat side frame with a flat rear panel, which is reminiscent of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5. The flat design provides a better grip and doesn’t let the phone slip out unnecessarily.

The side and the mid-frame are made of aluminum alloy, while the rear panel is made of glass. This flat glass and metal sandwich design provides a premium feel in hand. A part of that premium experience is also due to its weight. The flip phone just weighs 214 grams, which is significantly lighter than any other foldable phone. Also, there are two displays on the smartphone, the main and the cover display.

The main display of the smartphone is the 6.9-inches Foldable OLED screen with 120Hz high refresh rate support. On the other hand, the cover display consists of a 1.43-inch OLED display that can display a few vital information, such as missed calls, messages, and other notifications. Both displays are decently color-accurate, and watching content on the screen will be a pleasure.

Memory and Internal

The ZTE Nubia Flip features the Qualcomm SM7450-AB Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 5G chipset, which is capable of delivering a clock speed of 1×2.4 GHz. It has enough raw performance to run all modern apps and games smoothly. Speaking of games, the Adreno 644 GPU can play games such as Summoners War, PUBG Mobile, and CODm at the highest graphical fidelity.

When it comes to RAM and storage, the smartphone comes with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. As for the OS, the ZTE Nubia Flip is running on Android 13 OS support. The flip phone also supports 5G connectivity, so enjoy gigabit-level download speeds and low latency during multiplayer games.

Camera

The ZTE Nubia Flip sports a 50MP dual rear-camera system. The main 50MP rear camera captures some great pictures with great detail levels, natural colors, and high dynamic range, and the pictures exceed our expectations. The camera performance is seriously impressive, especially at this price range.

There’s a secondary 2MP depth sensor that allows the smartphone to capture the portraits decently well. The selfie camera in the front consists of a 16MP sensor, which can take some great selfies with perfect skin tones. They have a natural color tone and higher detail levels.

As for video recording, the ZTE Nubia Flip can shoot at a maximum of 4K@30FPS from the rear cameras, while the selfie cameras can only shoot at a maximum of 1080P@30FPS. But there’s no OIS and gyro-EIS for video stabilization systems.

Battery and Others

The ZTE Nubia Flip has a small 4310 mAh non-removable battery, the device will provide a battery life of 3 to 4 hrs. This is with light to moderate usage, including cameras, social media, texting, and others. But if you play a lot of games, then the battery will drain faster.

But don’t worry, this smartphone also supports the 33W wired fast charger. This can fully charge the smartphone in under 1 hour and 30 minutes. Apart from that, the phone also has Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, NFC, GPS, stereo speakers, and a USB Type C port for charging. ZTE announced that the pricing of the phone will be $460 (Rs 38,250 in India) approx.

Conclusion

The ZTE Nubia Flip has enough merits to stand on its own. It’s a well-designed phone with all the right specs at the right places to make the user experience decently good. There are quality components in every area of the smartphone, whether that’s the design, display, performance, 5G camera, or even the battery.

There are indeed foldable smartphones with far better specs than this one, but they also cost a whole lot more. They were released at price points that are simply out of the range of mainstream users. That’s exactly what ZTE plans to change with this smartphone. So, they price the smartphone under $500, so it becomes affordable for most people.

Given all the specs and features that this smartphone provides, its pricing is justified. This level of price-to-performance ratio is a rarity in the foldable phone segment, making it a unique phone. However, there are compromises to this when the pricing is this low. This includes a lack of IP rating, display protection, alternative camera lenses, and wireless charging.

A potential alternative to this smartphone would be none other than the Tecno Phantom V Flip, its ultimate challenger. It offers slightly better specs, cameras, and lighter weight but is available for a high price tag. However, the final decision is up to you, so it is better to choose a smartphone based on your requirements and needs.
