Design and Display
The design of the Tecno Phantom V Flip is quite elegant and honestly, it looks beautiful. The large camera island on the back compliments the design. The camera island is divided into two parts. The outer circle/ring consists of the camera lens, while the inner circle is actually the cover display that can show time or any other information. Speaking of the cover display, it’s a 1.32-inch AMOLED panel.
It can get plenty bright with 800 nits peak brightness under direct sunlight, so outdoor visibility won’t be much of an issue. The body of the smartphone is made of aluminum, steel, and plastic. The sideframe is aluminum while the foldable hinge is made of stainless steel. The rear panel is made of plastic, has an Eco leather back, and is available in two colors, Iconic Black and Mystic Dawn. On the front, you get the main display, which is a 6.9-inches Foldable LTPO AMOLED panel with 120Hz refresh rate support, FHD+ resolution, and 1000 nits of peak brightness. All in all, you get a decent set of features in the display department. Speaking of compromises made, we can say that the peak brightness and refresh rate could have been a bit better. Anyways, whatever is offered in the package does not disrupt the user experience with the device.
Memory and Internal
The chipset powering the new Tecno Phantom V Flip is the 6nmMediatekDimensity8050 processor, which can reach up to a 1×3.0GHz clocking speed. This chipset has optimum performance and even the app-opening speed is quite fast. If you are a multitasker, you will love it as all your apps will launch super fast. This performance is also carried over to the GPU business. Playing high-fidelity games like Genshin Impact, CODm, and PUBG is no big deal.
The Mali-G77 MC9 GPU can handle these games very well. With this level of performance, you can play games for hours and still the smartphone won’t overheat. The new foldable smartphone also comes with the latest Android 13OS out of the box with HiOS 13.5 UI for better customization support. With this interface, you may receive some bloatware apps that can be annoying to some users. The Tecno Phantom V Flip comes with 8GB of RAM &256GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage. The smartphone also has support for 5G connectivity for gigabit speeds while there is no scope for an SD card slot on the device.
Camera
The Tecno Phantom V Flip comes with a 64MP dual camera system. The two sensors are arranged in the following setup, a 64MP primary camera and a 13MP ultra-wide camera. The primary camera with its 64MP sensor allows for some amazing shots. These pictures have great details, a higher dynamic range, and saturated colors, which are pleasing to the eye. The 13MP ultra-wide camera is also quite good and manages to capture a wide FOV with all its glorious details retained properly.
The night photography is also quite the leap from Tecno’s previous attempts and the end results are more than decent. On the front, you will find a 32MP selfie camera that can take some selfies with a good amount of detail and natural skin tone. When it comes to video recording, the main rear camera can shoot up to 4Kvideos@30FPS, but the selfie camera maxes out at [email protected], there is no support for gyro-EIS on the device so videos captured may come out shaky.
Battery and Others
The Tecno Phantom V Flip has a Li-Po 4000mAh battery inside the smartphone, which combined with a power-efficient processor allows for a full day’s worth of battery. This is with light usage that includes a bit of photography, texting, calls, or Netflix streaming. But if you are a heavy user or play a lot of games, then the smartphone may not last the full day. But when the battery does go down, there’s support for 45W wired fast charging that can charge the smartphone to 50% in just 15 minutes.
However, there’s no support for wireless charging, which is getting a lot more popular these days. Apart from that, the Tecno Phantom V Flipsmartphone has support for dual-band Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.1, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, NFC, stereo speakers, and a USB Type-C port for charging. As for pricing, the phone has an official pricing of $660 (Rs 54,999 in India) approx.

Conclusion
The Tecno Phantom V Flip seems to have everything that an average user would like in a smartphone and on top of that, it provides a foldable mechanism that completely changes the outlook of the product. An average user is what this smartphone is designed for. Almost all foldable smartphones these days come with the highest possible specs, which is a good thing but that drives the price tag of the foldable smartphones absurdly high and not feasible for the average user.
It also provides 5G connectivity which also future-proofs the smartphone. But the lack of wireless charging and water resistance may be a deal breaker for some. Aside from this, the device carries a few outdated sensors and a bit of restrictions on the specs. If you are looking for an alternative smartphone then the Motorola Razr 40 is also available in India around the same price tag and also provides similar specs but has both wireless charging and a water-repellent design. In our opinion, the Motorola Razr 40 offers a better deal in comparison to the Tecno Phantom V Flip, however, the final decision is up to you.
