Vivo iQOO Neo 8

Vivo iQOO Neo 8 and Neo 8 Pro Smartphones Review – The Vivo iQOO Neo 8 and Neo 8 Pro series of smartphones were released in May 2023. These smartphones were released as flagship killers since iQOO wants to provide all that and more for the average user who can’t pay such a premium price tag. On top of that, the company has also announced a custom ISP that will fully utilize the new camera sensor to produce far better pictures than it would have been possible any other way. But how good the cameras are can only be judged when you use the phone.

That’s why we’ve decided to create a full review of both the Vivo iQOO Neo 8 and Neo 8 Pro smartphones, so you can get an idea of how good the cameras are going to be. Since both the Pro and the non-pro models are so similar to each other in terms of the specs, we have created a combined review of both smartphones. We will also dive deeper into the review to find out how good the display, performance, and everything else is going to be. So, without any further ado, let’s get started with a detailed review of the Vivo iQOO Neo 8 and Neo 8 Pro smartphones.

Design and Display

The design of the Vivo iQOO Neo 8 and Neo 8 Pro hasn’t changed much from the previous Vivo iQOO Neo 7 model. The only changes seen are in the colors and the design of the camera module. The design looks just as good now as it did in previous Neo models. Both the Neo 8 and the Neo 8 Pro look the same and feature the same colors. The smartphone is available in 3 colors- Mint, Black and Red.

The Mint and Black variants feature a glass back while the Red-colored variant is only available in leather, which gives the new smartphone a premium finish. The leather back of the Red variant will be a lot safer than the glass variants. The back of both phones is completely plain with one camera module on the top-left area of the back that also houses the flash. As for dimensions, both the devices have an 8.5mm thick body and weigh around 192 grams which is comfortable to hold for a long time.

At the front of the phone is the 6.78-inch Full HD+ AMOLED panel with 144Hz refresh rate, 1 billion colors, HDR10 certification, and 1300 nits peak brightness to conveniently use the device outdoors. All in all, the device offers a decent viewing experience from the specs offered.

Memory and Internal

The chipset inside the Vivo iQOO Neo 8 is the 4nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1processor, while the chipset inside the IQOO Neo 8 Pro is the flagship 4nm Mediatek Dimensity 9200+ processor. Mediatek Dimensity 9200+ in the Pro model is technically a faster and better model, but they are both so powerful to notice any difference between the two chipsets. Both chipsets have 5G modems so both smartphones are capable of reaching 5G-ready connectivity speeds.

The CPU of the snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 can reach up to a 1x3GHz clocking speed, while the CPU in the MediatekDimensity 9200+ goes up to a 1×3.35GHz clocking speed. Both chipsets are extremely fast and can easily run any app on the smartphone. For gaming, the Adreno 730 GPU in the Snapdragon chipset is just as powerful as the Immortalis-G715 MC11GPU offered with the MediaTek SoC. They both can easily run games like BGMI, COD mobile, and Genshin Impact smoothly. Both chipsets run relatively cool and don’t overheat.

The Neo 8 smartphone starts with 12 GB of RAM & 256GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage and goes all the way up to 16 GB of RAM & 512GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage. The Neo 8 Pro, on the other hand, starts with 16GB of RAM and 256GB of UFS 4.0 internal storage and goes up to 16GB of RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.0 internal storage. Both smartphones run on the latest Android 13OS with either Funtouch 13 UI for an international model or the OriginOS 3 UI for the Chinese variant.

Camera

Both smartphones feature the same 50MP dual camera system and so they both feature similar results. The main 50MP camera is actually quite good and the pictures have a good amount of detail with rich colors and perfect dynamic range. The sharpness is on point and the pictures look very crisp. The same goes for the 16MP selfie sensor.

Its detail level is on point. It is just as good as the rear camera and can capture the natural skin tone of human subjects perfectly. Even the night images coming out of both the rear and the selfie cameras are well-lit with a good amount of details on them, especially if you use the Night Mode. Speaking of secondary lenses, the Neo arrives with a 2MP depth lens, while the Neo 8 Pro equips an 8MP ultrawide lens. When it comes to video recording, the main camera can shoot videos at a maximum of 8K@30FPS, while the selfie camera can shoot videos at a maximum of [email protected] both the devices, you will receive gyro-EIS stabilization support. The overall camera experience is good but could have been better as per the price segment of the smartphone.

Battery and Others

Both smartphones have Li-Po 5000 mAh batteries inside. It has a high-density battery and can hold enough juice to provide you with a full-day or even a two-day battery backup if you use the smartphone moderately. But if you are a heavy gamer, then the battery may not last a full day. However, there’s nothing to worry about as the 120W of fast wired charging speed will quickly charge the battery to 50% in just 9 to 10 minutes.

The fast charger also comes included in the box, unlike other manufacturers who chose to not include any charger with the smartphone. Conclusion

Both the Vivo iQOO Neo 8 and Neo 8 Pro smartphones have very powerful specs inside them, including a gorgeous display, flagship chipset, and excellent battery life. IQOO has managed to deliver a flagship killer experience and that too at a price that’s very lucrative. Sure, it doesn’t have waterproofing or Gorilla Glass, but including would have meant a compromise on the chipset or the display. If you are a gamer or want pure performance, you don’t want a compromise in those areas.

So, both of these smartphones are excellent choices for that and it comes at a price that is totally justified for the performance it delivers. In terms of downsides, the device lacks reverse charging support and a better camera setup. Still, the device can be a good choice when you are seeking a flagship performance. However, if you are not a fan of iQOO, you may want to take a look at the OnePlus 11R smartphone, which also features the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 and comes at a similar but slightly higher price tag. But it’s OnePlus and they proven track record of providing proper software support, so the slightly higher price tag is justified. On the other hand, if you are looking for a better camera setup, check out the Samsung Galaxy F54, the final decision is up to you and your requirements.
