Tecno Pova 5 Pro

Tecno Pova 5 Pro Smartphone Review – Tecno Pova 5 Pro is the latest offering from Tecno in the mid-range sector. According to brand makers, the TecnoPova 5 Pro is meant to provide a new-class experience that is never found in this price range. Tecno managed to incorporate LED and a design pattern on the back that is similar to what Nothing Phone (1) did. In terms of design, it even looks better than Nothing Phone (1) while costing a lot less. So if you are someone who loved the design that Nothing first brought to the market but couldn’t afford, well now’s your chance.

Nothing created a lot of buzz in the market for both good and bad reasons. The good part was the unique design and the bad was the fact that it came at a price that was not in the budget for many users. Tecno wants to change that and usher in a new experience for the budget users with the Tecno Pova 5 Pro. It launched on August 2023 and we have decided to put the new smartphone through our detailed review and see if it can indeed deliver a great new experience that it claims. Let’s begin with the full review of the Tecno Pova 5 Pro smartphone.

  4. The main rear camera of the smartphone has a 50MP sensor while the selfie camera has a 16MP sensor.
  5. The smartphone is powered by a Li-Po 5000 mAh battery with a 68W fast-wired charger.

Design and Display

Design is the biggest feature point of this smartphone. One look at the smartphone and people would assume it’s one of those flagship smartphones and it certainly looks like one. It’s a gorgeous design that looks like it’s made out of little metallic blocks. It honestly looks very futuristic and cool. There are multiple LEDs on the back panel that will illuminate when there are new notifications, calls, low battery, charging, and more. Besides this, the smartphone has a 9mm slim body and weighs around 212 grams.

In fact, Tecno’s implementation looks cooler than Nothing’s, especially in the Silver Fantasy color variant. The LEDs are highly customizable and can be adapted to a user’s taste. It’s something tha21t you will have to see in person to believe. The entire body is made of polycarbonate material, in other words, plastic. However, that’s not a bad thing as the smartphone is extremely rigid and there’s no usual bending of any kind.

The design is one area where the smartphone seriously punches above its weight. But that doesn’t mean the display is lacking in any way. In fact, the smartphone features a 6.78-inch FHD IPS LCD panel that is color-accurate and features decent contrast levels. The display also has 120Hz refresh rate support for a smoother experience. The display can also get plenty bright at 580 nits of peak brightness. Apart from Silver Fantasy smartphone is also available in Dark Illusion and a special Free Fire Edition. All in all, the device offers a decent display and design, however outdoor experience can be a bit compromising in some situations.

Memory and Internal

The smartphone features a 6nm MediatekDimensity 6080 SoC that can reach up to a 2×2.4GHz clocking speed. This is a new 5G SoC that was recently released by Mediatek. So, the smartphone is 5G-ready as the SoC features a 5G-capable modem and can reach near Gigabit speeds easily. Also, this SoC can easily breeze through almost all apps and games on your smartphone, whereas other SoCs that just have 2 GHz speed struggle.

The Mali-G57 MC2GPU in this SoC has enough power to run PUBG mobile and CODm at respectable settings and smooth framerates. You can even play Genshin Impact, but only at lower graphics.  Anyway, remember this is not a gaming smartphone so don’t have high expectations. For RAM and storage, the smartphone is available for purchase with 8GB of RAM and 128 GB to 256GB of storage. When it comes to the software, the smartphone is running on the latest Android 13 OS with a HiOS 13 user interface for better customizability. Overall, you get a balanced performance on this smartphone, while also receiving dedicated SD card slot support.

Camera

The TecnoPova 5 Pro sports a 50MP so-called dual-camera system at the back. The main rear camera is the 50MP sensor, which is optimized to capture pictures with high dynamic range, true-to-life colors, and incredible details. The pictures look sharp even after you zoom in, which goes to show just how great the detail levels are. The main camera is equally powerful during the night, thanks to the night mode. It brightens up the images even if parts of the environment are dark.

The pictures come out exceptionally great with some incredible details in them that people can’t imagine at this price range. Aside from this, the secondary camera has nothing to talk about so we are not discussing the secondary 0.08MP lens. The selfie camera features a 16MP sensor that can shoot some decent selfies, with great details on them and the skin tone is perfectly preserved. There’s also an LED flash at the front that is neatly hidden under the bezel. As for video recording, the phone can shoot at a maximum of 1440pvideos@30FPS from the rear camera while the selfie camera can only shoot at a maximum of [email protected], an ultrawide lens is missing on the device which feels disappointing.

Battery and Others

The smartphone has a Li-Po 5000 mAh battery, which is very large for a smartphone of this caliber. The smartphone has an excellent backup and can easily last for 2 days with moderate usage, thanks in part to the 6nm manufacturing process and the use of energy-efficient components inside the smartphone. But when you do run out of battery, you wouldn’t need to worry as the smartphone supports 68W wired fast charging.

It can charge from 0 to 50% in just 15 minutes. The fast charger is also included in the box that many manufacturers are now choosing to omit from the box and that would mean you need to buy it separately. But that’s not the case with this smartphone. Apart from that, the phone also has Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, GPS, and a USB Type-C port. The smartphone is available for purchase at $180 (Rs 14,999 in India) approx.

Conclusion

The TecnoPova 5 Pro is truly a unique smartphone that was much needed in the lower mid-range sector. It is an excellent smartphone that will bring tough competition to other smartphones in the same segment. The smartphone has managed to deliver all that it promised and then some. The design is the key factor here and there’s no doubt about that, but the smartphone seems to have all the right specs in all the right places and that’s what surprised us. The LED implementation is so great that it has even managed to beat the likes of Nothing Phone (1) in terms of looks.

Such a unique smartphone at such a budget price gave us the idea that other parts of the smartphone might be compromised, but that’s far from it. Speaking of downsides, the absence of an ultrawide lens and better nits brightness is something that was expected from the brand makers.  However, if you want an alternative smartphone, then you may want to take a look at the Samsung Galaxy F14. It has a bit better specs such as camera, battery, display, etc. at the same pricing, but it lacks the unique LEDs on the back like TecnoPova 5 Pro. The LEDs are unique to the Techno Pova 5 Pro and won’t be found anywhere else unless you are willing to pay a lot more. Anyway, the final decision is up to you so choose according to your requirements.
