Tecno Camon 20 Pro

Tecno Camon 20 Pro Smartphones Review – The Tecno Camon 20 Pro 5G and 4G are two recently launched smartphones from the house of Tecno. These two smartphones are meant to provide people with more options to choose from when they buy a new smartphone. As the name suggests, one of the smartphones supports 5G and the other only supports 4G. The 5G smartphone costs more and provides a very solid experience, but if you can’t pay that much for a smartphone, then the 4G model is the one you should go for.

Other than that, there’s very little difference between the two. They will essentially provide a similar experience, except for the fact that one of them will provide a much faster experience. So today, we are going to review the two new smartphones and see if they are worthy of your attention or should you look for a different smartphone. So, without any further ado, let’s begin with a review of the Tecno Camon 20 Pro 5G and 4G smartphones.

Tecno Camon 20 Pro Smartphones Review

  2. The Tecno Camon 20 Pro 5G is powered by the 6nm Mediatek Dimesnity 8050 5G chipset while the Tecno Camon 20 Pro 4G is powered by the Mediatek Helio G99 chipset.
  3. Both smartphones come pre-loaded with the latest Android 13 OS and HIOS 13 user interface.
  4. Tecno Camon 20 Pro 5G and 4G features a new 64MP triple rear camera system along with a 32MP selfie camera.
  5. The smartphones have a Li-Po 5000mAh battery with 33W wired fast charging technology.

Design and Display

Both the Tecno Camon 20 Pro 5G and 4G smartphones feature a unique design that you won’t find in any other smartphone. The smartphones feature a pattern in the back that looks so out of the world and futuristic. The pattern mixes well with the camera module and complements the design further.

The back is made out of plastic and so is the side frame, and they feature a flat design, which is reminiscent of the iPhone design. The smartphones are also quite thin at just 7.8mm and feel quite comfortable in the hand. It’s a great design and the front of the smartphones are also equally great.

The Tecno Camon 20 Pro 5G is available for purchase in two colors, Dark Welkin and Serenity Blue. While the 4G version of the smartphone is available in Predawn Black and Serenity Blue. For the display, both smartphones featured a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with Full HD+ resolution. The display panel can also boost up to 120Hz refresh rate for a smooth user experience.

The display also features Always-on Display technology, which allows your smartphone to feature a clock and a few notifications on the screen at all times. However, smartphones lack any display protection such as Gorilla Glass. The display features accurate colors and has thin bezels around, while the only thing lacking in the display department is better nits brightness support.

Memory and Internal

The Tecno Camon 20 Pro 5G comes with the 6nm Mediatek Dimesnity 8050 5G chipset, capable of reaching up to a 1x3GHz clocking speed. The Tecno Camon 20 Pro 4G comes with a 6nm Mediatek Helio G99 4G chipset, capable of reaching up to a 2x 2GHz clocking speed. Being clocked at 3.0, the Dimensity 8050 5G chipset is a lot more powerful than the Helio G99, but the price of the 5G smartphone is also a bit higher. But for general users who just use apps like Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and a few games, both chipsets will perform really great.

The same goes for gaming as well. The GPU of both chipsets can easily run games like PUBG, CODm, and even Genshin Impact, but the Mali-G77 MC9 GPU inside the Tecno Camon 20 Pro 5G is significantly more powerful. So, you will be able to play your favorite games at comparatively higher settings on the 5G smartphone. Also, both smartphones feature excellent thermal management and don’t really heat up or consume too much battery.

This is partly thanks to the 6nm manufacturing process that is used to manufacture both chipsets. For RAM and storage, both smartphones have 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. When it comes to the software side of things, the smartphones are running on the latest Android 13 OS with a HIOS 13 user interface. With this, you will receive tons of customizations, while some bloatware apps may also be present on the device.

Camera

Both Tecno Camon 20 Pro 5G and 4G smartphones sport a triple rear camera system with a 64MP sensor as the main camera. The main camera sensor manages to capture some really great shots with incredible details, high dynamic range, saturated colors, and perfect white balance. Tecno never disappoints its users with camera performance and the same goes here. Also, they have properly optimized the night mode algorithm, which further boosts the camera performance during the night.

Thanks to the night mode, the quality and the detail level of the camera are really great. Tecno did an incredible job behind the scenes optimizing the sensor. Apart from this, the 5G variant has a 2MP macro and 2MP depth lens as the secondary setup, while the 4G variant arrives with a 2MP depth and a QVGA lens.

The selfie camera of both smartphones is also equally great. They feature a 32MP sensor and it can capture selfies with even skin tone and a decent level of detail. As for video recording, the 4G phone can only shoot a maximum of 1080P videos at 30FPS from both side cameras. Speaking of the 5G variant, you will be able to record 4K videos at 30fps from the main camera without any stabilization support.

Battery and Others

Both smartphones have a Li-Po 5000mAh battery that can last for 2 – 3 days with lighter usage. With a moderate to heavy, it will still provide a full-day charge. But, if you are a heavy user or play too many games on the smartphone, the battery will last even less. But there’s nothing to worry about as the smartphones have support for 33W wired fast charging, which will recharge the battery pretty quickly.

Even when gaming, the smartphones remain adequately cooled, so you won’t experience any overheating or performance throttling issues when you are gaming. Apart from that, the phone has Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.2, an under-display fingerprint scanner, NFC, GPS, and a USB Type-C port for charging. The Tecno Camon 20 Pro 5G is available for $290 (Rs 23,999 in India) approx. while for the 4G variant, you may need to pay $245 (Rs 19,999 in India) approx.

Conclusion

Tecno makes amazing smartphones that seem to have all the right specs and features. They are designed well and appease two different users. Users who want the fastest of everything, including 5G, then they should go for Tecno Camon 20 Pro 5G. But users who can’t pay that much should opt for the 4G model, which should be significantly cheaper when it goes on sale.

The smartphone provides a decent set of specs but better alternatives are available on the market at the same price range. The camera feels average as per the competition and the pricing also feels a bit on the higher side as per the specs offered. However, it is understandable if you are not a fan of Tecno. They are a relatively new company and have less experience when you compare it with Samsung or OnePlus.

So, if you want an alternative option, we would like to suggest the Oneplus Nord CE 3 Lite, which is also going for the same price tag but can be a whole lot better depending on what you are looking for in a new smartphone. Anyways, the final decision is up to you so make a choice based on your requirements.
