Lava Storm Smartphone Review – Lava announced the Lava Storm on December 2023 and the smartphone went on sale later that month. Lava is an Indian brand and launches its smartphone exclusively in India, so there are slim chances of getting it outside the country. However, Indian fans will get to enjoy the smartphone with all its 5G glory.

The smartphone is also crafted with a modern design mind while also keeping the cost in check. Can Lava provide the budget mid-range smartphone that its fans have been waiting for? Let’s find out with a detailed review of the Lava Storm smartphone and see if this smartphone is worth purchasing.

Lava Storm Smartphone Review

  2. The Lava Storm has the 6nm Mediatek Dimensity 6080 5G chipset that can reach up to 2×2.4GHz clock speeds.
  3. The smartphone comes with Android 13 OS with a stock user interface for a bloatware-free experience.
  4. The main rear camera of the smartphone has a 50MP dual camera system with a 16MP selfie camera at the front.
  5. The smartphone is powered by a Li-Po 5000 mAh battery with a 33W wired fast charger support.

Design and Display

The design of the Lava Storm is subtle but in an elegant way. It doesn’t feature any over-the-top design or any luxury pattern and that allowed Lava to cut some costs and use that resource somewhere else. Its design is simple but it is modern with a modern flat design that not only looks good but also provides a better grip.

The body is completely made out of plastic but it’s solid and there’s no creaking or bending of any sort. There are two color options, Black and Green. As for the display, you get a 6.78-inch IPS display with 120Hz high refresh rate support. It’s an FHD+ panel and is color-calibrated from the factory. So, you will get a great viewing experience.

Memory and Internal

The Lava Storm comes equipped with the 6nm MediaTek Dimensity 6080 5G chipset. The chipset can deliver a clock speed of up to 2×2.4GHz, which is mighty impressive considering the price it launched for. This chipset also supports 5G connectivity for gigabit speed levels, so no compromises there, unlike other smartphone vendors that decided to skip 5G connectivity for cost-cutting measures. There’s enough raw power in this chipset to run all your everyday apps and games smoothly. Speaking of gaming, this chipset has the Mali-G57 MC2 GPU, which can run high-end games like PUBG mobile, CODm, and even Genshin Impact at fantastic graphical fidelity. Its gaming capabilities are through the roof when compared to other smartphones at the same price.

It’s a pity that users all over the world won’t get to purchase this little beast for themselves. Indian fans, however, have a great option. The smartphone also comes with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. The 8GB of RAM can be further expanded with the RAM Extension feature provided in the smartphone at no cost. When it comes to the software, the Lava Storm is running on Android 13 OS with a stock user interface for a bloatware-free experience. This should seriously enhance user experience and help grow user trust in the brand. Lava also provides a microSDXC expansion slot to expand your internal storage if you ever need it.

Camera

The Lava Storm comes with a 50MP dual-camera system. The main camera features a 50MP sensor and pictures from this camera have good enough detail and high dynamic range. The color range is also quite great and doesn’t look artificially saturated. There’s portrait mode as well and pictures taken with this mode are also decent.

The background bokeh will look natural with the near-perfect background blur. However, during really dark situations, images can suffer a bit. Night mode fixes it a bit but not that much. You will see a drop in colors and detail levels. There’s also an 8MP ultra-wide camera, which is quite decent but its detail levels are not quite up to the mark with the main camera.

On the front of the Lava Storm, there’s a 16MP sensor. It can take decent selfies and the picture quality is good enough. The details in the selfies are on point and it will look sharp even after you zoom in a bit. As for video recording, the Lava Storm can shoot at a maximum of 1080p@30FPS from both the rear and selfie cameras.

Battery and Others

The Lava Storm has a Li-Po 5000mAh high-capacity battery and it can provide excellent backup. The smartphone can easily last for 2 days or more. This depends on your usage as well. With a lower to medium usage, getting 2 days of battery back is not difficult at all. However, if you play a lot of games, then the battery will last less.

But that shouldn’t worry you as the smartphone supports 33W wired fast charging, which is bundled in the box. This charger can fully charge the battery in just an hour. Apart from that, the phone also has Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, GPS, and a USB Type-C port. The smartphone is available for purchase at $162 (Rs 13,499 in India) approx.

Conclusion

The Lava Storm possesses a unique set of specs and features to make it an attractive choice for many Indian fans, especially considering the price it has launched for. Features such as 5G connectivity, decent camera, superb battery, and most of all excellent chipset don’t come cheap and yet it is available for a price that hardly any other smartphone can compete with. It’s a great smartphone and it comes with a speedy chipset that no other smartphone can provide at this price point. This seems like a perfect smartphone and it is. The only caveat is that it is available exclusively in India.

For our global fans, we have an alternative smartphone, which may not provide the same value as this smartphone but is close enough. This is none other than the Xiaomi Poco M6 Pro 5G, which is available at the same price and provides the specs needed to deliver a similar performance to that of the Lava Storm. However, the final decision is up to you, so it is better to choose a smartphone based on your requirements and needs.
