Xiaomi Redmi Note 12R Pro Smartphone Review

Highlights

  1. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 12R Pro features a 6.67-inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate.
  2. The smartphone is powered by the 6nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 chipset capable of reaching up to a 2x2GHz clocking speed.
  3. The smartphone comes pre-loaded with Android 13 OS and MIUI 4 user interface support.
  4. Xiaomi Redmi Note 12R Pro features a 48MP dual rear camera system along with an 8MP selfie camera.
  5. The smartphone has a Li-Po 5000mAh long-lasting battery with 33W wired fast charging support.

Design and Display

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 12R Pro smartphone features a premium design just like the Redmi Note 12R smartphone. The side frame is flat and is adjoined by the curved back panel. This allows for a very comfortable grip that makes using the phone on your hands a breeze. The smartphone is available for purchase in three colors, Gold, White, and Black. The smartphone looks absolutely gorgeous in the Gold color and it is protected by IP53 dust and splash resistance.

For the display, you get a 6.67-inch OLED display with Full HD+ resolution support. The display panel can also boost all the way up to a 120Hz refresh rate for a smooth user experience. The display also gets plenty bright with 1200 nits peak brightness under direct sunlight, which is more than enough to view the contents on the screen easily. However, the smartphone lacks any display protection such as Gorilla Glass. Aside from this, everything about the display section will help you with an immersive viewing experience.

Memory and Internal

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 12R Pro comes with the 6nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 chipset that is capable of reaching up to a 2×2.0GHz clocking speed. The chipset has plenty of power to run everyday apps, such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, or anything else. The chipset can easily process operations a lot faster and this makes the experience a lot better. Also, the smartphone doesn’t really heat up or consume too much battery, thanks to the 6nm manufacturing process.

The GPU used in the device is the Adreno 619 GPU, which can run demanding games like PUBG mobile, CODm, and even Genshin Impact at a smooth playable framerate under medium graphic settings. The chipset also includes a 5G modem, so the smartphone is 5G-ready. For RAM and storage, the phone has a single variant and that’s with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. The inclusion of 12GB of RAM means multi-tasking will be absolutely flawless. When it comes to the software side of things, the smartphone is running on Android 13 OS with an MIUI 4 user interface.

Camera

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 12R Pro sports a dual rear camera system with a 48MP sensor as the main camera. There’s a secondary 2MP depth camera and a dual-tone LED flash beside it. The main 48MP sensor is capable of taking some really great shots. Redmi never disappoints its users with camera performance and it’s no different here. It’s properly optimized to capture some really detailed pictures with high dynamic range, saturated colors, and perfect white balance.

The night mode algorithm boosts the camera performance during the night. The quality and the detail level of the camera don’t diminish, thanks to the night mode and the optimizations that Redmi did behind the scenes. The selfie camera features an 8MP sensor and it can capture selfies with even skin tone and a decent level of detail. As for video recording, the phone can only shoot at a maximum of 1080P videos at 60FPS from the rear camera while the selfie camera maxes out at 1080p at 30FPS. Apart from this, the absence of an ultrawide lens and 4K recording support may disappoint some users as it is expected from a smartphone under this price segment.

Battery and Others

The smartphone has a Li-Po 5000mAh high-capacity battery that is capable of providing an excellent battery backup that can last for 2 days with lighter usage. But, if you are a heavy user or play too many games on the smartphone, the battery will not last that long, but thankfully the smartphone has support for 33W wired fast charging, which will quickly recharge the smartphone battery.

Most modern games tend to be very power-hungry and no battery can last too long when gaming, but the smartphone is adequately cooled, so you won’t experience any drastic performance throttling when you are gaming. Apart from that, the phone also has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, NFC, Infrared Sensor, GPS, and a USB Type-C port for charging. The smartphone is available for $230 (Rs 18,990 in India) approx.

Conclusion

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 12R Pro smartphone seems to have all the right features that users will look for in the mid-range section, but Redmi already has too many smartphones in the Note 12 series that target every price point from the low-mid range to the upper-midrange category and this smartphone wasn’t necessary for a launch. However, the company seems to think that it was.

But from an end user’s perspective, it doesn’t matter. You can happily purchase this smartphone, knowing that it will definitely serve your needs whether we talk about performance or decent display for viewing content. But if you think you need more power out of your smartphone, then you can choose a different smartphone from the Redmi Note 12 series of smartphones. Speaking of downsides, the device lacks 4K recording support and a better camera setup to attract camera-centric users.

However, if you are not a fan of MIUI or want an alternative option to this, then check out the Samsung Galaxy F34 which arrives with a better battery capacity accompanied by four years of software updates. The final decision is up to you, so make a choice accordingly.
