Design and Display

The Xiaomi Civi 3’s aesthetical design is a pleasure to look at. Xiaomi Civi lineup of smartphones always had great design and it’s good to see that hasn’t changed yet. Xiaomi Civi 3 features an elegant design with a dual-tone finish, except for the Gray color. Its back panel is completely clean except for the Xiaomi logo at the bottom left. The back panel is made of glass and is available in four colors – Gray, Purple, Mint, and Gold. The side frame is made out of aluminum, which not only makes the smartphone a lot more premium but also rigid and sturdy. Aside from this, the device has Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection at the front.

The smartphone is also quite slim at 7.6mm and lightweight at just 174 grams. On the front, you get a 6.55-inch AMOLED display with Full HD+ resolution. The display is adaptive and can dynamically switch up to a 120Hz refresh rate for a smooth user experience. The display has support for up to 68 Billion colors and can also get plenty bright at 1,500 nits of peak brightness under direct sunlight. The Xiaomi Civi 3’s display also supports Dolby Vision and HDR10+ for wide content streaming support. Overall, the display attributes offered are impressive while the display has negligible bezels that look quite amazing.

Memory and Internal

The Xiaomi Civi 3 comes with the heavy hitter from Mediatek that will put all its competitors behind when it comes to raw performance. It’s the 4nm Mediatek Dimensity 8200 Ultra chipset. This is a flagship-level chipset that is meant to be the new powerhouse, but now it’s available in the mid-range sector. The CPU can reach up to a 1×3.1GHz clocking speed and has a lot more power than any other chipset in this price range. It can easily run all your everyday apps, such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, or anything else without breaking a sweat.

The GPU in the chipset is the Mali-G610 MC6, which has 6 GPU cores, so it can run heavy games like PUBG mobile, Genshin Impact, and CODm at higher graphics and smoother framerates. As the chipset is manufactured on the 4nm lithography process, Xiaomi Civi 3 doesn’t heat up a lot and consumes very little battery when you are playing a game. The Xiaomi Civi 3 smartphone is also 5G enabled and is capable of providing near Gigabit speed levels.

For RAM and storage, the Civi 3 can be purchased with 12GB to 16 GB of RAM and 256 GB to 1TB of internal storage. The inclusion of 16GB RAM options means you can multi-task with a lot of apps and multiple Chrome tabs in the background. They will keep apps running in the background without being erased from the memory. For the software, the smartphone is running on the latest Android 13 OS with an MIUI 14 user interface for better customization support. However, you may face some bloatware apps on the user interface.

Camera

The Xiaomi Civi 3 sports a 50MP triple rear camera system with a 50MP sensor as the main camera, an 8MP sensor as the ultra-wide sensor, and a secondary 2MP macro camera. Apart from that, there are four dual-tone LED flashes, which can come in handy during low-light situations. The main 50MP sensor is optimized to let more light in, so it’s capable of taking some great shots. The pictures from this camera tend to have high dynamic range, good detail levels, and saturated colors. However, that performance isn’t carried over to the ultra-wide camera. Don’t get us wrong.

The 8MP ultra-wide camera takes decent pictures but in many scenes, the detail level isn’t as high as the main camera. You don’t even have to compare it to the main camera. Even when compared to the ultra-wide camera in the Xiaomi Civi 2, the ultra-wide in Civi 3 wouldn’t even be able to match it. So, while the main camera brings better quality compared to Civi 2’s main camera, the ultra-wide feels like a downgrade. One step forward and another step back. Night photography is much better than most other smartphone cameras in this price range.

In fact, when you turn on the night mode, the algorithm further boosts the camera performance. On the front, you get a 32MPdual selfie camera, one for normal selfies and another for group selfies. As for video recording, the phone can shoot at a maximum of 4Kvideos@30FPS from both the rear and the selfie cameras. The rear camera also has OIS and gyro-EIS for excellent stability during outdoor video recording sessions, but the selfie camera only has gyro-EIS.

Battery and Others

The Xiaomi Civi 3 has a Li-Po 4500mAh battery that can cover you for at least 1 – 2 days with light usage, including some social media, texting, and some light browsing. But, if you play a lot of games, then you won’t get the same battery performance. The 1 – 2 days battery performance is only for lighter usage. Also, using 5G a lot will reduce the battery backup further.

But thankfully, the smartphone has support for 67W wired fast charging, which will fully recharge the battery in 38 minutes and you will be back to playing games in no time. The Xiaomi Civi 3 also has an under-display fingerprint sensor, which is fast and accurate. Apart from that, the phone also has dual-band Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, stereo speakers, Infrared Sensor, GPS, and a USB Type-C port for charging. The smartphone is available starting at $354 (Rs 29,290 in India) approx.

Conclusion

The Xiaomi Civi 3 delivers on what it promises, an elegant design and a decent camera. The Civi 3 brings improvements in both of these areas. Even though the ultra-wide camera is a bit downgraded, the performance of the main camera makes up for it. On top of that, Xiaomi Civi 3 ticks all the right checkboxes to ensure the experience of using the smartphone is a breeze. This includes things like a flagship-like display and chipset that will keep your phone running for years without ever slowing down. Speaking of downsides, the absence of reverse charging support could be an issue for those who need it, whereas the rest of everything seems to be on point.

It even has 5G connectivity that can truly deliver gigabit speeds to make your internet experience a whole lot better. However, if the Xiaomi Civi 3 hasn’t launched in your region yet, there are some alternative smartphones that you can look at. The Xiaomi 13 Lite is a great alternative that should provide similar performance and experience. However, the final decision is up to you so choose according to your needs and requirements.
