TCL 30 V 5G

TCL 30 V 5G Review – The TCL 30 V 5G brings in a couple of key upgrades over its younger sibling, from a display to a chipset, among other things. TCL 30 V debuted along with TCL 30 XE at CES 2022 during the month of January 2022. These two smartphones are the two latest 5G smartphones that will go on sale as soon as the company reveals the price. The new Snapdragon chipset should vastly improve the phone’s performance and gaming capabilities.

But there is some drawback as well, while the Full HD+ display is honestly a very nice addition, the phone doesn’t have the high refresh rate that you get in the younger sibling. The TCL 30V is a mid-range 5g smartphone that should soon be available in the global market. So the question remains whether or not this smartphone is worth buying, let’s find out in the detailed review of the TCL 30 V smartphone.

TCL 30 V 5G Review

Highlights

  1. The TCL 30 V 5G features 6.67 inches tall IPS display with a Full HD+ resolution.
  2. It is powered by the 8nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 5G processor and has 5G connectivity built-in.
  3. The phone runs on the Android 11 OS with TCL UI on top of it.
  4. It comes with a triple camera with a 50MP main camera sensor and a 16 MP selfie camera.
  5. The smartphone is powered by Li-Po 4500 mAh battery which includes an 18W fast charger.

Design and Display

The design of the TCL 30 V 5G is just like its younger sibling TCL 30 XE smartphone. You will have a hard time differentiating one from the other. The difference between the two is in the selfie camera department. The 30 XE 5G came with a waterdrop a notch, but the TCL 30 V 5G has a punch-hole display, and it honestly looks better than the waterdrop notch.

The front of the smartphone is the gorgeous 6.67 inches Full HD+ IPS LCD display. It has accurate colors, which is good for movie watching experience. But sadly, there’s no higher refresh rate support, and the phone has a default 60Hz of refresh rate, which may not be enough for everyone, especially in the current market competition. The phone is built with a plastic back with a midnight gray color and on the front, you will have gorilla glass 3 protection.

Memory and Internal

The TCL 30V smartphone is available in a single variant, 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, which is definitely an upgrade from the default 64GB. Plus, you’re getting a dedicated micro SD card slot to boost your memory requirement. The 8nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 5G SoC is quite powerful for daily uses. Don’t just go by the naming scheme, Qualcomm did name it as a 400-series chipset, but it is just as powerful as the Snapdragon 730G along with a 5G modem. The reason why it’s so powerful is that it has the same Kryo 460 cores that are found inside the Snapdragon 730G, and so they roughly give 2x 2.0 GHz speed.

The Adreno 619 GPU is powerful enough to play BGMI (PUBG) at HD settings with 60Hz refresh rates, and you can also play Call of Duty Mobile without any issue. But there is a chance that you may face heating issues in heavy games and multitasking. The UI of the phone is the TCL UI and it provides a decent user experience that is built on top of Android 11 OS.

Camera

The TCL 30 V 5G phone brings a much better camera configuration that improves daylight photography. The 50MP sensor drastically improves the level of details found in each shot. The colors look just fine, and the dynamic range has also been preserved in most of the shots. The second camera is the 5MP ultrawide sensor. As a 5MP camera is not sufficient to take detailed photos and the shots look quite soft as the sensor fails to capture a good amount of light. The last sensor is just a 2MP macro which helps to take close-up pictures of small objects.

You get a 16MP selfie camera on the front that can take some really detailed selfies. You can shoot videos at a maximum of 1080p resolution at 30fps from both rear and front cameras with no gyro-EIS stabilizing technology. There is LED flash, but for taking pictures in low light it can’t make much difference. There’s also HDR and Panorama support for photography and video recording which can produce pretty decent results in proper daylight.

Battery and Others

The battery found in the TCL 30V smartphone has a capacity of Li-Po 4500 mAh and the 18W USB Type-C 3.0 fast charger. It lacks reverse charging and wireless charging, common in today’s smartphone market. Apart from that, you also get a 3.5mm headphone jack, dual-band Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.1, and a fingerprint sensor on the back.

Also, the smartphone has a dual stereo speaker setup, which is just amazing at this price range. Also, we have no official information regarding the pricing but it is expected around $300 (Rs 22,900 in India) approx.

Conclusion

The unique selling point of the TCL 30 V 5G smartphone is its 5G support, upgraded 50MP main camera, a decent chipset for improved gaming performance, stereo speakers, and a Full HD+ display. All of these specs make the 30V smartphone a decent choice for daily use.

There are also some downsides to this smartphone where you will miss NFC support, gyro-EIS support, Android 11 instead of the latest version, default refresh rate, and brightness. On the pros and cons, we have a separate section definitely check it out. If you can ignore its downsides and you are a fan of TCL then you can opt for this phone as per your need. In case you are looking for an alternative option, then the Xiaomi Redmi Note 11T will be a great deal for you.
