Motorola Edge 40 Neo Smartphone Review – Motorola launched the new Motorola Edge 40 Neo on September 2023 and it was meant to display the best of what Motorola has to offer in the premium mid-range segment. With the new smartphone, Motorola brought a curved display and super fast 5G to the global market and disrupted this segment altogether. It brought a whole new experience to the segment and considering the current inflation, it was indeed a surprise.

On top of that, the Motorola Edge 40Neo brought premium design and materials for the construction of the body. The design is familiar with other Motorola smartphones but it’s far more premium to touch and feel. The smartphone is also water and dust-resistant among other things. Today, we will review how the new smartphone lives up to the hype and promises that Motorola seems to believe. Let’s begin with a detailed review of the Motorola Edge 40 Neo smartphone.

Design and Display

The design of the Motorola Edge 40 Neobrings has some welcoming changes. The new design dramatically increases the premium feeling that you get when holding the smartphone and the color choices make it even better. Speaking of colors, the smartphone is available in Black, Caneel Bay, and Soothing Sea. Apart from this, the device has a 7.9mm slim body that is quite impressive.

Both Caneel Bay and Soothing Sea colors feature faux leather build, except for the Black color variant, which has an Acrylic panel. The smartphone is also quite light at just 170-172 grams. Furthermore, the smartphone is protected by IP68 dust and water resistance. On the front, you will find the 6.55-inch P-OLED panel with FHD+ resolution, advanced 144Hz refresh rate, 1 Billion colors, 1300 nits of peak brightness, and HDR10+ support.

These display technologies are included to make sure you have a fantastic experience using the smartphone. Also, this is a P-OLED panel, which is short for Plastic-OLED and they are quite flexible, allowing manufacturers to design extremely bezel-less displays. On top of that, it is a curved display, which further enhances the screen-to-body ratio. The Motorola Edge 40 Neo is no different as it features the least bezels, making it a pleasure to watch videos and movies. Besides this, the 1300 nits peak brightness ensures a comfortable outdoor experience.

Memory and Internal

The Motorola Edge 40 Neo has been outfitted with the 6nm MediatekDimensity 7030 chipset. This is a chipset that has only been in a few smartphones as it is a relatively new chipset, The CPU in this chipset can reach up to a 2×2.5GHz clocking speed, making it capable of running all your daily apps smoothly in real-life usage. So, you can multitask with multiple apps in the background and the smartphone will still not slow down.

The same goes for the GPU side of things. The Mali-G610 MC3 GPU inside the chipset can easily run modern games like Genshin Impact, CODm, and PUBG mobile with moderate settings and smooth framerate. The smartphone is also equipped with the latest Android 13OS with a stock interface for a clean user experience and is free of any bloatware.

Also, the chipset is manufactured at 6nm technology, so there’s little to no heating unless you play a lot of games or apps that use the GPU too much, such as video editing apps. It is also a 5G-ready device and is capable of downloading your favorite content at gigabit speeds. Apart from that, the smartphone can be purchased with 8GB to 12GB of RAM and 128GB to 256GB of uMCP internal storage. However, you are not going to receive an SD card slot on the device so choose the one that satisfies your needs.

Camera

The Motorola Edge 40 Neo has a dual rear camera system with a 50MP sensor for the primary camera and a 13MP sensor for the ultra-wide camera. The primary camera with a 50MP sensor is capable of taking some incredible photos that tend to have high detail levels, accurate colors, and a high dynamic range. This sensor has OIS, which stabilizes and helps capture more light, so the photos tend to look visibly bright and capture more details than other smartphones in the same price range.

Then there’s the ultra-wide camera with a 13MP sensor that can take some great shots with a wide 120˚ field of view. Even the highlights in the shadows are captured properly and ultimately make for an amazing ultra-wide shot, but the detail level is slightly lower than that of the primary camera. The night photoshoot is also good, thanks to the night mode, OIS, and the optimizations put in place by Motorola. It manages to capture details in the photos taken at night and beats out other phones in the same price bracket.

The selfie camera in the smartphone has a 32MP sensor and it can take some great selfies with perfect skin tones. When it comes to video recording, the Motorola Edge 40 Neocan shoots up to 4Kvideos@30FPS from both the main rear camera and the selfie camera. Also, the rear camera has OIS and support for gyro-EIS for stable video recording, so it’s suitable for recording action scenes. But sadly, the selfie camera has no form of stability when it comes to video recording.

Battery and Others

The Motorola Edge 40 Neo has a Li-Po 5000 mAhhigh-capacity battery that should easily last about 1 – 2 days with lighter usage. But, if you play a lot of games or do some video recording/editing, it will be very taxing on the processor, so the smartphone may not last a full day. But you will be glad to know that the smartphone supports 68W of wired fast charging, so the battery can be quickly recharged in an hour.

In fact, the smartphone can charge to 50% in just 15 minutes, which will be super helpful when you are late for office and need to quickly top off the battery. Apart from that, the smartphone comes with an under-display fingerprint sensor, triple-band Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, stereo speakers, GPS, and a USB Type-C port for charging. The price of the smartphone starts at $490 (Rs 27,990 in India) approx.

Conclusion

The Motorola Edge 40 Neo has a fantastic display, a gorgeous finish, a speedy processor, a decent camera, and a great battery. But what truly shines is the use of premium materials for the design, “Ready for” technology, and IP68 dust and water resistance. They are the main highlight of the smartphone. The Motorola Edge 40 Neo provides a premium experience at a budget that Motorola promised it would.

They have delivered almost everything they promised. What solidifies this smartphone in the sea of other smartphones is that it provides features that its competitors lack and that too at a budget. Considering all that it has to offer, we would say that the price is justified, but then again, there are other smartphones.

For example, the Vivo T2 Pro for example has a better and faster chipset and Ring LEDs, among other things, at a similar or even lower price tag depending on the storage variant. Therefore, it depends on what you need out of a smartphone and which smartphone can fulfill those needs in a better way. No matter which smartphone you choose in the end, both of them will offer a great user experience for the price.
