Huawei Mate 60 RS Ultimate Pros and Cons

Huawei Mate 60 RS Ultimate Smartphone Review – The Huawei Mate 60 RS Ultimate was launched in September 2023 and it is meant to display the best of everything that Huawei has to offer. It is essentially made of some of the highest-end technological components that are all made indigenously. That’s because Huawei has been banned from selling their smartphone and there are sanctions in place to stop other suppliers from providing chips to Huawei. The device arrives with a decent camera setup, a massive battery, and support for wireless and reverse charging. But all these things alone don’t make a smartphone worth buying.

So, chances are a global launch may not happen. It’s a 5G smartphone with an indigenously built 5G modem for gigabit speeds. In terms of looks, the device features a bold design that is quite different from Huawei’s previous smartphones. So today, we are going to review the Huawei Mate 60 RS Ultimate and see if this smartphone is worth purchasing.

Design and Display

The design of the Huawei Mate 60 RS Ultimate is an area where we have seen some of the most significant design changes. It’s a bold step for sure and far away from Huawei’s previous design language. But different doesn’t mean bad and this one will surely impress Gen Z users. It features a racing design with bright colors. Speaking of colors, the Huawei Mate 60 RS Ultimate is available for purchase in Red and Black color options. The construction of the body of the smartphone is made out of durable materials and the smartphone should feel solid in hand.

However, the smartphone may feel a bit too heavy compared to other smartphones as it weighs around 242-246 grams. The Huawei Mate 60 RS Ultimate is protected by IP68 dust and water resistance. Even the display is protected by Huawei’s own Kunlun Glass 2, which should provide similar protection as Corning’s Gorilla Glass Victus. Speaking of the display, a 6.82-inch FHD+ LTPO OLED display panel is offered that arrives with up to 120Hz refresh rate and 1 Billion colors. This display is of the finest quality and features accurate and rich colors. Everything about the display department is great until we talk about the better nits brightness support to comfortably use the device outdoors. Also, the makers could have provided more advanced refresh rate support as per the pricing of the smartphone.

Memory and Internal

The Huawei Mate 60 RS Ultimate uses Huawei’s indigenously built chipset i.e. 7nm Kirin 9000SSoC. The new chipset can reach up to a 1×2.62GHz clocking speed and it has sufficient power for everyday apps, thanks to the use of the latest ARM design. Switching between multiple apps will be a lot smoother and You can even have multiple tabs inside a browser and still, it will be just fine.

Whatever you do on this smartphone, it will be done quickly. The software side of things is also properly optimized to take advantage of all this performance. The smartphone comes with Huawei’s new HarmonyOS4.0 OS. The chipset also has support for 5G connectivity for gigabit speeds. The GPU powering the smartphone is the new custom-designed Maleoon 910 GPU.  As for gaming, you will be able to play heavy games at moderate settings but still, the SoC feels a bit underwhelming as per the competition available in the market. Apart from this, the users may have to face bloatware apps on the device that may disrupt the user experience.

For memory and storage, the Huawei Mate 60 RS Ultimate is available with 16GB of RAM and 512 GB to 1TB of faster UFS storage. Besides this, you can also expand storage limits with a Nano Memory hybrid slot. All in all, the device backs you in all your daily activities but still a more robust performance is expected from a device in this price segment.

Camera

The Huawei Mate 60 RS Ultimate has a 48MP triple rear camera system. The primary camera has a 48MP sensor that is capable of taking some amazing photos that tend to have incredible detail levels, accurate colors, and a high dynamic range. This sensor is optically stabilized and that helps capture more light than ever before, so the photos look visibly bright and capture a ton of details. Huawei smartphones always have a great camera quality and it’s good to see that hasn’t changed yet.

Then there’s the ultra-wide camera with a 40MP sensor. It also manages to take some amazing shots with a wide 120˚ field of view. Even the highlights in the shadows are captured properly and ultimately make for an amazing ultra-wide shot. There’s also a periscope telephoto camera with a 48MP sensor that is capable of taking 3.5x zoomed shots and it is also optically stabilized to capture every shot perfectly. However, the same thing can’t be said for low-light photography as there is the presence of grains in the picture.

On the front, there’s a selfie camera that has a capable 13MP sensor and it can take selfies with perfect skin tones. Still, the selfie lens in the phone is not anything extraordinary to talk about as it provides an average user experience. When it comes to video recording, the Huawei Mate 60 RS Ultimate can shoot up to 4Kvideos@60FPS from the main rear cameras as well as the selfie camera. The rear cameras also feature both OIS and gyro-EIS.However, the same cannot be said for the selfie camera.

Battery and Others

Huawei has included a Li-Po 5000 mAhhigh-capacity battery for the Huawei Mate 60 RS Ultimate and it’s a battery that is built to take advantage of the new chipset’s power efficiency. So, this battery can easily last 1 – 2 days of normal day-to-day usage. But if you are a heavy user or play a lot of games, then the smartphone may not last a full day. The exact battery backup you get will depend on your usage and the kind of apps you like to use.

When it comes to charging, the Huawei Mate 60 RS Ultimates supports 88W of wired fast charging, which can fully charge the smartphone in just 30 minutes. It even has fast 50W wireless charging and even 20W reverse wireless charging speed. Apart from that, the Huawei Mate 60 RS Ultimate also has an under-display fingerprint sensor, FaceID for facial recognition system, dual-band Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, stereo speakers, GPS, and a USB Type C port for charging. The price of the smartphone starts at $1623 (Rs 1,34,990 in India) approx..

Conclusion

The Huawei Mate 60 RS Ultimate has a stunning display, a massive battery, and a whole lot more. It would be way too easy to say these are the main attractions of the Huawei Mate 60 RS Ultimatesmartphone. The device arrives with robust fast charging support, a balanced camera setup, and many more highlights such as water-resistant protection. With all these sets of specs, we can say that the Huawei Mate 60 RS Ultimate smartphone provides an uninterrupted experience. But still, there are some major downsides to this device. The major issues are the selfie camera and the software support is not that impressive though. The makers could have provided better nits brightness support on the device alongside advanced refresh rate support. All these things, make the user think twice before purchasing this smartphone.

We are not saying that the smartphone is not capable, however, the pricing of the smartphone makes a deal worthwhile. In our opinion, the device is underwhelming as per the pricing. Anyways the chances of buying this smartphone outside of mainland China will be almost impossible. For those living elsewhere, we have an alternative choice for you. The Xiaomi 13T Pro is a great alternative to the Huawei Mate 60 RS Ultimate and comes with specs that are almost equally powerful and it has been launched globally. However, the final decision is up to you so choose accordingly.
