Honor 90 GT

Honor 90 GT Smartphone Review – Honor 90 GT was launched in December 2023 and it started shipping to its customers later that month in China. The new smartphone will also be available globally considering the Honor’s previous release pattern. This is a premium smartphone release from Honor that is designed to impress modern users and they hope to make a big splash in the premium smartphone market, especially with features like 5G.

The design of the smartphone looks quite similar to Honor’s other smartphones, such as the Honor 100 and Honor 100 Pro. It’s good to see Honor providing a similar high-end design to this smartphone as they did with their more expensive smartphone. But will it provide a similar high-end and premium experience to its users? That’s exactly what we plan to find out today. Let’s begin with a detailed review of the Honor 90 GT smartphone and see if this smartphone is worth purchasing.

Honor 90 GT Smartphone Review

Highlights

  1. The Honor 90 GT has a 6.7-inch AMOLED display with 120Hz high refresh rate support.
  2. The SoC inside the smartphone is the latest Qualcomm SM8550-AB Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 5G chipset that is capable of reaching clock speeds of 1×3.2 GHz.
  3. The smartphone comes with Android 13 with a MagicOS 7.2 user interface for better customization support.
  4. The smartphone has a 50MP dual rear-camera system while the selfie camera has a 16MP sensor.
  5. The smartphone is powered by a Li-Po 5000 mAh battery with 100W wired fast charging support.

Design and Display

The Honor 90 GT features a high-end design with a combination of flat design with the use of premium materials such as vegan leather. This combination has allowed the smartphone to not only look premium but also feel fantastic in hands. The flat design also provides a better grip when holding the smartphone and further solidifies the user experience of the smartphone. The front of the smartphone will impress its users further with the use of an extremely bezel-less display with minimal bezels in the chin.

Speaking of the display, you get a 6.7-inches AMOLED display with 120Hz high refresh rate support. This an AMOLED display and it has been color-tuned to perfection. It can also display HDR content flawlessly as the panel is capable of displaying 1 billion colors. The panel can get plenty bright at over 2600 nits under direct sunlight, which ensures that you get the same display experience outdoors as you do indoors. However, there’s no mention of any screen protection.

Memory and Internal

Honor has equipped the Honor 90 GT with the Qualcomm SM8550-AB Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 5G chipset. This chipset is capable of delivering clock speeds of up to 1×3.2 GHz, making it one of the most powerful Android chipsets. It has all the raw performance needed to run all your social media apps and games.

The same performance can be seen in the gaming side of things as well. So, high-end games, such as Genshin Impact, PUBG Mobile, Summoners War, and CODm with the highest graphical options and high framerates. When it comes to the software side of things, Honor 90 GT is running on Android 13 with the MagicOS 7.2 user interface for better customization support. It would have been better if the smartphone had Android 14 out of the box but users will just have to wait for a software update.

The chipset also supports 5G connectivity, so you will get gigabit-level speeds and gaming with low latency. For RAM and storage, the smartphone can be purchased with up to 12GB/16GB/24GB of RAM and 256GB/512GB/1TB of storage. 24GBs of RAM is certainly an overkill, especially in a smartphone but, if you don’t want it, you can always get the model with a lower RAM capacity.

Camera

The Honor 90 GT has a 50MP dual rear-camera system. The primary camera consists of a 50MP sensor and pictures from this camera have great details and high dynamic range. The color range is also quite great and looks quite natural. There’s portrait mode as well and pictures taken with this mode are also good with near-perfect background blur.

There’s night mode as well when you need to take pictures at night. It allows the camera to capture more light than usual and helps capture more details than usually possible at night. This is done through the use of three clever techniques, OIS, slower shutter speed, and advanced post-processing algorithms. All in all, you get some really good shots whether that’s during the day or night.

The second camera is the 12MP ultra-wide camera and it manages to capture the details perfectly with great color accuracy. There’s also no color shift compared to the main camera. On the front, you get a 16MP selfie camera that can take some detailed selfies with perfect skin tones. When it comes to video recording, the rear cameras can shoot up to 4K@30FPS.

But the selfie camera can only shoot videos at a maximum of 1080p@30FPS. The footage from the rear cameras is stabilized with both OIS and gyro-EIS, but the footage from the selfie camera is stabilized with only gyro-EIS,

Battery and Others

The Honor 90 GT has a Li-Po 5000 mAh high-capacity battery, so it can last 1 – 2 days easily. This is with a light to medium usage that includes a bit of camera, social media, watching videos, and so on. But with heavier usage that includes gaming, the battery will not last that long. But this shouldn’t worry you as the smartphone supports 100W wired fast charging capabilities.

The 100W wired charger can fully charge the smartphone in just about 32 minutes, which is seriously impressive considering the size of the battery. It also supports 5W reverse wired charging, which can be helpful when charging your wireless earphones. Apart from that, the phone also has Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, an under-display fingerprint scanner, NFC, GPS, and stereo speakers. The Honor 90 GT starts at $468 (Rs 38,990 in India) approx.

Conclusion

Honor has designed a high-end smartphone with the Honor 90 GT, which is truly capable of delivering close to flagship-level user experience. The Honor 90 GT’s pros include a flagship-grade display, chipset, camera, and even battery. In terms of specs, they are all flagship level but the smartphone lacks certain things and those are its cons.

It lacks display protection, IP rating, and wireless charging, among other things. But considering the price, the cons can be excused. That’s because the pricing certainly takes the cake. So, is this smartphone for you? That depends on what you need from the smartphone. If you want a solid performance and user experience, then the Honor 90 GT will certainly deliver in both of these aspects.

But if you need an ultra-sophisticated and true flagship experience that includes display protection, wireless charging, and dust & water protection, then this smartphone is not for you. The closest alternative smartphone to the Honor 90 GT is the Vivo iQOO Neo 9 Pro, which is around the same price or slightly lower than this. However, the final decision is up to you, so it is better to choose a smartphone based on your requirements and needs.
