Design and Display

Blackview designed the Blackview BL9000 to impress rugged users. It didn’t go for the same old design strategy that has been seen in many rugged smartphones now. Rugged smartphones are indeed generally thicker and bulkier, so it’s difficult to create a great design. But Blackview did it and it’s quite elegant. The rear panel is flat with a matte soft touch finish.

The rear panel also houses the secondary display where the clock is set up by default with cameras on either side of that display’s outer ring. This ring is in a gold finish, which nicely accents the black color of the smartphone. The smartphone is built with materials that are designed to protect it against harsh environmental conditions. So, the smartphone is certified with MIL-STD-810H certification. The smartphone is also protected against dust and water with IP68/IP69K certifications.

Even the display is protected by the Corning Gorilla Glass Victus. So, it’s a very well-built smartphone, and speaking of display, you get a fantastic display here. It has a 6.78-inch IPS display with FHD+ resolution. On top of that, the display panel also has a high refresh rate of 120Hz for a smooth user experience. The secondary display on the rear side that 1.32-inch displays the clock has a 360×360 resolution and even this is protected by the Corning Gorilla Glass Victus.

Memory and Internal

The Blackview BL9000 is equipped with the 6nm MediaTek Dimensity 8020 5G SoC. This chipset is capable of reaching clock speeds of up to 4×2.6GHz and has enough performance to run all your daily apps smoothly and efficiently. So, your apps such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp, and Signal, among others will launch and operate speedily.

Let’s talk about the gaming side of things. The chipset has the Mali-G77 MC9 GPU. This GPU’s gaming capabilities are on a different level. It can easily run games like PUBG mobile, CODm, and even Genshin Impact with smooth framerates. The chipset also supports 5G modem connectivity, so you will find blazing-fast networking speeds. As for RAM and storage, the smartphone comes with up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage.

But the storage cannot be expanded later as there’s no microSD slot. When it comes to the software, the Blackview BL9000 is running on Android 13 with a Doke-OS 4.0 user interface for better customization support.

Camera

The Blackview BL9000 comes with a 50MP dual-camera system. The main camera features a 50MP sensor, which can take some decent pictures with high details and high dynamic range. The color range is also quite natural. Also, the pictures taken at night have great detail levels, thanks to the night mode. The details in the subject’s face are preserved accurately.

There’s also a secondary 13MP ultra-wide camera, which managed to preserve all the details with good color tone and no distortions around the edges. The portrait mode pictures also look quite decent and the background blur looks quite natural. On the front of the Blackview BL9000, there’s a 50MP sensor.

This is a great sensor and it can take extremely good selfies with high detail levels and color tone of the subject’s face. As for video recording, the Blackview BL9000 can shoot at a maximum resolution of 4K@30FPS from the rear cameras, while the selfie camera can shoot at a maximum resolution of 1080p@30FPS.

Battery and Others

The Blackview BL9000 has an 8800 mAh high-capacity battery that can easily last for 3-5 days or even more if your usage doesn’t include gaming or any productivity tasks that are heavy on resources. However, if you play a lot of games, then the battery will not last that long and may hardly provide a full 2 days’ worth of battery life.

But even if the battery life ends, there’s nothing to worry about as the smartphone supports 120W wired fast charging, which can fully charge the smartphone in around 2 hours. The smartphone also supports 5W reverse wired charging. Apart from that, the phone also has Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.1, NFC, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, GPS, and a USB Type-C port. The smartphone is available for purchase starting at $299 (Rs 24,900 in India) approx.

Conclusion

The Blackview BL9000 is a speedy rugged smartphone that has been launched at a budget price tag. This has upset the budget-rugged smartphone industry and for good reasons. Some of its pros include a great display with high refresh rate support, a speedy chipset, a great camera setup, and a fantastic battery life. On top of that, it features a great design that won’t embarrass you when you take the smartphone out of your pocket.

The smartphone will also be well protected even in harsh working conditions. It’s a rugged smartphone after all. However, it has some cons as well. There’s no storage expansion support or headphone jack. There are no infrared or thermal cameras either. Then again, you won’t find them in a smartphone that costs so less. So, we would say ignore the cons and go for the smartphone.

But in case they are deal breakers for you, you can take a look at the Dogee V30 Pro. It is available at a slightly higher price tag but also provides an infrared night vision camera as well as a storage expansion slot. However, the final decision is up to you, so it is better to choose a smartphone based on your requirements and needs.
