Design and Display

The design of the Asus ROG Phone 7 has seen some incremental changes. It’s not too radically different from last year’s model, but just enough to be a meaningful change. The back of the smartphone is made out of glass while the side frame is made out of aluminum, making the smartphone rigid and sturdy. The glass on the back of the smartphone is designed in a two-tone style. The top half of the back glass is glossy while the bottom half has a matte finish. Illuminated RGB logo lights are present on both the glossy and the matte part of the glass back and there’s also a LED ring on the main camera.

The side metallic frame also carries the power and volume buttons, along with a microphone, speaker grills, and two USB-type C ports. The metallic frame also contains pressure-sensitive zones that can be used as triggers during your gaming session. On the front, you get a 6.78 inches AMOLED display panel with up to 165Hz refresh rate, 1 Billion colors, and HDR10+ Support. The display panel gets 1500 nits brightness which is enough for using the device outdoors.

The display is protected by the Corning Gorilla Glass Victus and the back glass is protected by Gorilla Glass 3. The smartphone is also protected by IP54 dust and water resistance, which should protect the smartphone against light splashes or raindrops. Besides this, the smartphone is available in two colors, Phantom Black and Storm White.

Memory and Internal

The Asus ROG Phone 7 smartphone has been equipped with the latest Android SoC i.e. the 4nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. This processor is clocked at a 1×3.2GHz clocking speed that is more than enough for handling heavy performance tasks. In fact, the new processor comes close to beating iPhone 14 Pro Max in some games. Alongside this, the Adreno 740 GPU in the chipset is also equally powerful. It can run modern games like Genshin Impact, CODm, and PUBG mobile at ease with a smooth framerate. The excellent heat management system is also partly responsible for the superb performance of the chipset.

To manage the heat of the smartphone, ASUS has installed multiple layers of graphite sheet and a vapor chamber. On top of that, the smartphone can be further cooled by an external cooling fan accessory that can be connected using the USB-C port on the side. This smartphone is truly a champion for gamers. However, this cooling fan will have to be purchased separately from ASUS.

The smartphone runs on Android 13 with a stock interface and is 5G ready. Apart from that, the phone comes with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage for the base variant and it goes up to 16GB of RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.0 internal storage, which is the fastest storage type available on the market.

Camera

The Asus ROG Phone 7 has a 50MP main camera, 13MP ultra-wide camera, and a 5MP macro sensor. The main camera sensor captures images and videos with amazing details, splendid colors, and a wide dynamic range. The same goes for the 13MP ultra-wide camera which manages to capture some incredible shots that are just as great as the main camera. The night photo shooting experience is decent and it’s capable of capturing some amazing details in your photos. However, don’t expect the pictures to be as good as the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. These are two different smartphones that are designed for specific purposes.

The selfie camera in the smartphone is a 32MP sensor that takes some impressive images. The pictures had a great amount of detail with even skin tones and accurate colors. When it comes to video recording, the Asus ROG Phone 7 smartphone can shoot up to 8K@24FPS from the main rear camera with gyro-EIS support, but the selfie camera can record a max 1080P@30FPS resolution.

Battery and Others

The Asus ROG Phone 7 comes with a Li-Po 6000 mAh battery capacity that should easily last for 2 days on moderate usage. But, when you play games for a long period, the phone may not last a full day. But you will be glad to know that it can be quickly charged in 45 min to its full glory as it has support for 65W fast wired charging along with 10W reverse wired charging.

Apart from that, the smartphone comes with an under-display optical fingerprint sensor, triple-band Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, and GPS. Also, the smartphone has two separate USB Type C 3.1 and C 2.0 ports for charging. One at the bottom of the smartphone and the other at the side. Furthermore, the ROG 7 costs around $ 670 (Rs 54,990 in India) approx for the base variant.

Conclusion

The Asus ROG Phone 7 smartphone provides a flagship gaming experience without any compromises. To back up the performance, ASUS has added the highest-grade cooling possible in a smartphone along with a huge battery that will keep your gaming session for hours. The display is also fabulous and so is its camera. No matter which game you are trying to play on your smartphone, you can rely easily on knowing it will run smoothly.

Even day-to-day applications will run great, thanks to the lightweight stock interface. The only thing it lacks is wireless charging however, you can’t charge wirelessly when playing games anyway, so we understand why ASUS chose not to add it to the smartphone. Overall, it is a fantastic smartphone but if you want an alternative to ROG Phone 7 that is also equally powerful or more, then you should look for the Nubia Red Magic 8 Pro smartphone which comes in a similar price range and specifications.
