Oppo Reno 8 Pro Smartphone Review

Highlights

  1. The phone holds 6.62 inches AMOLED display panel with 120Hz refresh rate support.
  2. The device runs on the latest Android 12 OS with ColorOS 12.1 user interface.
  3. Performance on the Reno 8 Pro is carried out by the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chipset.
  4. You get a triple-rear camera with a 50MP primary, alongside a 32MP selfie camera.
  5. The Reno 8 Pro equips a decent Li-Po 4500 mAh battery accompanied by 80W fast charging, and reverse charging support.

Design and Display

Oppo Reno 8 Pro furnishes thin bezels on the front and 7.6mm thickness on the side, so the phone feels premium and slim to look at. There is a tiny dot-notch at the top left, while the phone is lightweight at 188 grams so you can hold this device for a longer time. The Reno 8 Pro got built on an aluminum frame, and this device doesn’t let you down in terms of looks and comfort. Furthermore, the smartphone is available in three color variants- Black, Blue, and Gold, whereas the Black variant looks a bit more professional.

In Reno 8 Pro, you got offered a 6.62 inches AMOLED display panel with a high 120HZ refresh rate and HDR10+ support. Besides this, you get 1300 nits peak brightness support to comfortably use the device outdoors in broad daylight, while you also get Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection on the phone. Long story short, the Reno 8 Pro provides you with a fair value under the display part. You will enjoy gaming with a high refresh rate and use the device outdoors. The AMOLED display benefits you with impressive picture quality, true-to-life colors, and a bit of battery efficiency.

Memory and Internal

The performance on the Oppo Reno 8 Pro smartphone got executed by a flagship 4nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chipset that can reach up to a 2.4GHz clocking speed. You get flagship-level processing power with this chipset, and it assures you the experience close to Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset. You can enjoy heavy gaming with the processor, while the high 120Hz refresh rate will back you for immersive gaming on the device. This 5G-enabled chipset is reliable for games like COD, BGMI, and multitasking requirements.

Reno 8 Pro runs on the latest Android 12 OS with ColorOS 12.1 user interface for software rendering. With this custom UI, you can customize your phone as per need, while it also brings a few bloatware applications that can be annoying. Fortunately, you can remove some of them. For storage, you get 8GB/12GB RAM options with 128GB/256GB internal storage. Meanwhile, there is no SD card slot on the phone. Reno 8 Pro can be a good deal in terms of heavy performance and storage, and a thumbs up to go from our side.

Camera

The triple-rear camera on the Reno 8 Pro includes a 50MP primary, 8MP ultrawide, and a 2MP macro lens. The 50MP lens can capture decent images in daylight with accurate colors and sharpness. The photos look a bit whitewashed but are manageable. On the other hand, night photography images are average. The 8MP ultra-wide lens comes with a 120-degree field of view and clicks decent results.

The 2MP macro lens is nothing extraordinary instead, the makers could have provided a telephoto lens. The overall rear camera photography feels average. Fortunately, the inbuilt effects and modes provide you with a better photography experience. You can record 4K videos at 30fps with gyro-EIS stabilization from this camera.

The 32MP selfie lens feels fair, as it captures decent photos during day and night, and the output produces satisfactory results. Images carry natural colors, and there is no whitewash on the output results like the rear camera. The selfie lens can record 1080p videos at 30fps with gyro-EIS support. Honestly, the main camera section of the Reno 8 Pro is below par as per price, while the selfie camera is good enough. Anyways, you can’t expect high-intensity photography from this device.

Battery and Others

The phone has an apt Li-Po 4500 mAh battery capacity, accompanied by 80W fast-charging support. The battery backup is enough to grant you 4+ hours of screen time on mediocre usage, while the company advertises to refuel the device in around 31 minutes. The Reno 8 Pro also supports reverse charging. The battery section of the Reno 8 Pro is a fair deal, as you also get an under-display optical fingerprint scanner for biometric authentication.

Besides this, the phone carries other comms and sensors like NFC, GPS, accelerometer, gyro, compass, and a USB Type C port. The Oppo Reno 8 Pro 5G smartphone comes with a price tag of $699 (56,590 in India) approx for the base variant, and you need to pay more for the higher variants.

Conclusion

The Oppo Reno 8 Pro smartphone carries a lot of impressive specs, whether it be the display, 5G connectivity, powerful chipset, high refresh rate, or fast charging. The device has apt internal storage, a robust battery capacity, and a responsive under-display fingerprint scanner. The device excelled in all the departments except the camera, which is the major downside of the phone. The camera is not outdated, but it does not meet your expectations for a photogenic experience. If the camera is not your priority, then you can go with this smartphone.

For a better photography experience, you can check alternatives such as the Vivo X90 smartphone which offer you a way better deal in terms of camera. For any other requirement, Reno 8 Pro is a reliable option to go with. Anyways, the final decision is up to you and your requirement.
