Xiaomi Redmi 13 Smartphone Review – Xiaomi announced the Xiaomi Redmi 13 in June 2024 and later went on sale the same month. The smartphone is launching globally in a gradually phased manner, so it may not arrive in your country immediately, but it should in the coming days. The smartphone follows the design language of the newly released Poco F6, which is a good thing.
However, the Redmi 13 doesn’t have 5G connectivity, which is a shocker for a smartphone released in 2024. Xiaomi is hoping that its other features are enough to compensate for the lack of 5G. So, let’s begin with a detailed review of the Xiaomi Redmi 13 smartphone and see if this smartphone is worth purchasing.

Design and Display
Xiaomi wants to impress everyone who lays eyes on the Xiaomi Redmi 13, thus it’s logical for the company to want a good design, which this smartphone has. It has a flat design with sharp edges on the sides that allow for a better grip, so the chances of the smartphone slipping out of your palm are pretty slim. This phone is also protected from dust and water splashes with the IP53 rating.
The colors of the smartphone are fantastic. It is available in Midnight Black, Sandy Gold, Ocean Blue, and Pink. The Ocean Blue, in particular, has a wave-like pattern on the rear side, which looks breathtaking. While other colors are also great, only the Ocean Blue color has that pattern. It is made of plastic completely but it’s well-built and there’s no creaking or bending of any sort. The build is solid and will last a long time.
On the front, you will get the 6.79-inch IPS display with 90Hz high refresh rate support for a smooth user experience. This is an HD+ display panel and not an FHD+, so some users may not like it. Considering the price of the phone, Xiaomi should have implemented an FHD+ panel, but at least, the display is color-accurate. The panel also gets plenty bright at 550 nits under direct sunlight, so using the smartphone outdoors won’t be an issue. The display is protected with Corning’s Gorilla Glass.
Memory and Internal
The Xiaomi Redmi 13 comes equipped with the MediaTek Helio G91 Ultra 4G chipset. The chipset can reach clock speeds of up to 2×2.0GHz, which is nothing impressive, considering the price point of the smartphone. Don’t get us wrong, it’s an acceptable chipset for an extremely budget phone, but this phone is not that cheap. Even phones with lower price tags have better chipsets than this.
However, running everyday games such as Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, Messenger, and more, won’t be an issue. Even general gaming will be fine. This chipset has the Mali-G52 MC2 GPU, so games like PUBG mobile, CODm, and Summoners War run at relatively smooth framerates. But high-end games like Genshin Impact won’t run well. It’s not a gaming phone and the chipset is not made for serious gaming.
The smartphone also lacks 5G connectivity, so you are not getting low latency anyway. Besides that, the smartphone is available for purchase with up to 6GB/8GB of RAM and 128GB/256GB of internal storage. The Xiaomi Redmi 13 is running on Android 14 with a HyperOS user interface that has a lot of features. It also has a 3.5mm headphone jack and that’s a really good thing, especially for audiophiles.
Camera
The Xiaomi Redmi 13 comes with a 108MP dual rear camera system. The primary camera is capable of capturing pictures with decent detail levels, high dynamic range, and a color tone that is good enough. The range of colors could have been a bit better but at least the pictures don’t have an overprocessed look. The secondary camera is completely useless and won’t help you in any situation.
On the front of the Xiaomi Redmi 13, there’s a 13MP selfie camera, which takes some decent selfies with a good amount of fine detail, white balance, and a natural-looking skin tone. As for video recording, the Xiaomi Redmi 13 is capable of recording videos at a maximum resolution of 1080p@30FPS from both the rear and selfie cameras but there’s no video stabilization of any sort.
Battery and Others
The Xiaomi Redmi 13 has a 5030mAh high-capacity battery that is capable of providing superb battery life. The phones can easily last for 2 days or more with a lighter usage that includes some camera, social media, YouTube, and so on. But if you are a gamer, the battery will drain faster and you will be lucky if it lasts a full day.
However, the smartphone supports a 33W wired fast charging, which can fully charge the battery in about 2 hours. Apart from that, the phone also has Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.4, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, GPS, and a USB Type-C port. The smartphone is available for purchase at $191 (Rs 15,999 in India) approx.

Conclusion
The Xiaomi Redmi 13 is a decent smartphone. It has the right set of features and capabilities to make it stand out among other smartphones. The display of the smartphone is bright, color-accurate, and has a decent refresh rate, which can provide a solid user experience. You also get a decent chipset, which gets the job done.
The camera and battery performance are also quite good, but the pricing is where the smartphone misses the mark by a lot. This phone could have been really good and they got the specs right as well, but its higher price tag puts it against phones that have much better specs. Against such phones, the Redmi 13 looks like a bad deal. Even Xiaomi’s older model, Xiaomi Redmi 12 5G is much better than this and also costs a bit less. That phone has a better display, faster chipset, and even 5G connectivity, so we would recommend that phone instead. However, the final decision is up to you, so it is better to choose a smartphone based on your requirements and needs.
