Xiaomi Poco M6 Plus Smartphone Review – The Xiaomi Poco M6 Plus was announced in August 2024 in India and went on sale a week later. The smartphone is currently available only in India, but given Poco’s history, we believe a global launch is closer. Therefore, expect the Poco M6 Plus to arrive in your country soon. The smartphone follows the design language of other phones in the Poco M series, which is not a bad thing.
The Poco phones tend to have a decent design. It also comes with some mighty specs, including 5G connectivity, which is usually not found in phones in its price range. Xiaomi is hoping that the inclusion of 5G and its other features will be enough to attract new customers. Design and Display
The design of the Xiaomi Poco M6 Plus has seen some changes, but it’s not drastically different from its predecessor. It has a flat design on the sides and the rear panel, which allows for a stronger grip, and the smartphone won’t slip out of your palm. The corners are rounded, making the display appear more premium.
Speaking of the display, the Xiaomi Poco M6 Plus has a 6.79-inch FHD+ IPS display with 120Hz high refresh rate support. This is a panel with FHD+ resolution, and it can get as bright as 550 nits, so it will offer a decent viewing experience, and watching videos and movies will be a pleasure. There is Gorilla Glass 3 protection for the display, while the phone is protected from dust and water splashes with an IP53 rating. Overall, the phone’s build quality is solid and will last a long time. The colors of the smartphone are absolutely fantastic. It is available in Black, Purple, and Silver.
Memory and Internal
The Xiaomi Poco M6 Plus comes equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 AE 5G chipset, which can reach up to 2×2.3GHz clock speeds. This is a decent chipset considering the smartphone’s price, and its 2.3Ghz will keep everyday apps, such as Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, Messenger, and more, running smoothly.
Even gaming is quite decent with this chipset. It has the Adreno 613 GPU, which can comfortably run games like PUBG mobile, CODm, Black Desert Mobile, Summoners War, and even Genshin Impact runs relatively smoothly. But high-end games like Genshin Impact won’t run well. However, it’s not a gaming chipset, so don’t expect any serious gaming capabilities.
The smartphone also has 5G connectivity, so you will get high speeds and low latency during gaming. Besides that, the Xiaomi Poco M6 Plus can be purchased with up to 6GB/8GB of RAM and 128GB of UFS 2.2 internal storage. The Xiaomi Poco M6 Plus is running on Android 14 with a HyperOS user interface that has a lot of features. It also has a 3.5mm headphone jack, which audiophiles will appreciate.
Camera
The Xiaomi Poco M6 Plus comes with a 108MP dual rear camera system. The primary 108MP camera can capture some great pictures with decent detail levels, high dynamic range, and a natural-looking color tone. The range of colors could have been a bit better, but they are fine for uploading to social media platforms.
The secondary camera consists of a 2MP Macro sensor, which is completely useless and won’t help you in any situation. It would have been better if it was an 8MP ultrawide instead. On the front of the Xiaomi Poco M6 Plus, there’s a 13MP selfie camera, which is capable of taking some decent selfies. These selfies tend to have a good amount of detail, decent white balance performance, and a natural-looking skin tone.
As for video recording, the Xiaomi Poco M6 Plus can record videos at up to 1080p@30FPS from both the rear and selfie cameras. Also, there’s no OIS video stabilization or even gyro-EIS, for a matter of fact.
Battery and Others
The Xiaomi Poco M6 Plus has a high-capacity 5030mAh battery, which is capable of lasting for 2 days or more with light usage. The phone can last a full day even with medium usage that includes camera, social media, watching videos, and so on. However, if you are a gamer, the battery will drain faster and won’t even last a full day.
However, the smartphone supports a 33W wired fast charging, which can fully charge the battery in about 2 hours. Apart from that, the phone also has Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.0, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, GPS, and a USB Type-C port. The smartphone is available for purchase starting at $155 (Rs 12,990 in India) approx.

Conclusion
The Xiaomi Poco M6 Plus has everything one could expect from a budget smartphone. It has the hardware and features needed to stand out among other midrange smartphones. The display, for example, is fantastic for viewing content since it is bright and color-accurate. It also has a high refresh rate, which should elevate the user experience.
You also get a decent chipset whose app launching speed and gaming capabilities hold up against much higher-priced smartphones. The camera and battery performance are also quite good, plus it has 5G connectivity. With the competition in mind, the pricing could have been slightly better. Don’t get us wrong, the pricing is alright but there’s a clear room for improvement. The best alternative smartphone to this would be the Realme Narzo 70, which has a better display, faster chipset, and an even faster charging speed at a little higher cost. However, the final decision is up to you, so it is better to choose a smartphone based on your requirements and needs.
