Xiaomi Mix Flip Smartphone Review – The Xiaomi Mix Flip was announced in July 2024 and went on sale the same day. Xiaomi has announced that the smartphone will launch globally, starting in Europe, and will be available in more regions soon. In terms of the design, this smartphone looks similar to the Motorola Razr+ 2024. It is designed to be a better alternative to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 smartphone, so it has better specs inside.
The Xiaomi Mix Flip also has a 5G modem, so it has full 5G compatibility. The public’s interest in foldable smartphones is fading away as they don’t see much value in them. Design and Display
The design of the Xiaomi Mix Flip is exquisite. The body is made from a combination of aluminum, stainless steel, and glass. It has a flat design overall but the edges are curved to provide a more comfortable grip. The top half of the rear panel consists of the cover display, which wraps around the two cameras that sit at the top-left corner. The bottom half consists of a glass panel with the Xiaomi logo at the bottom left.
Speaking of the cover display, it has a 4-inch AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, while the main display consists of a 6.86-inch foldable LTPO AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate and 1 billion colors. Both display panels have support for features like 1.5K resolution, Dolby Vision, and HDR10+. The two panels can get up to 3000 nits of peak brightness, so this foldable phone will have a better outdoor experience.
Also, the two display panels have support for LTPO technology, so the refresh rate will go as low as 10Hz when the contents on the screen don’t move but will go up to 120Hz as soon as you start using the phone. The hinge is also crafted from stainless steel, which makes the foldable mechanism very smooth and enhances the user experience. The phone is available in three colors, Black, White, and Purple.
Memory and Internal
The Xiaomi Mix Flip is equipped with the Qualcomm SM8650-AB Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 5G chipset that can reach clock speeds of 1×3.3 GHz, making it the fastest Android processor in the world. This is the fastest processor in real-life usage, so it has more than enough power to handle anything you through at it. Also, the heat is kept under control, so the chipset can truly flex its wings and deliver solid performance in both apps and games.
Speaking of games, the Adreno 750 GPU inside the chipset is quite powerful and can run games like Genshin Impact, CODm, and PUBG mobile comfortably with maximum graphical settings and high framerates. The Xiaomi Mix Flip features Android 14 with a HyperOS user interface for more customization support and better user experience. The Xiaomi Mix Flip is also 5G-ready and can deliver gigabit download speeds and low-latency gaming. Apart from that, the phone can be purchased with up to 12GB/16GB of RAM and 256GB/512GB/1TB of storage.
Camera
The Xiaomi Mix Flip has a 50MP dual rear camera system. The main camera with the 50MP sensor captures some amazing images and videos with high detail levels, saturated colors, and an even color tone. Even when you zoom into the pictures, there are a ton of details in the images. This amazing performance level is also seen in the secondary 50MP telephoto camera, which also manages to capture some incredible shots.
Both sensors are properly tuned, so you won’t find any color shift between the two sensors. The night photoshoot is exceptional and the cameras manage to capture some amazing details in the photos. The night camera performance honestly surprised us. The cameras can clearly hold their own against the likes of Samsung Galaxy Flip 6 and other similarly priced foldable phones.
The selfie camera in the smartphone is a 32MP sensor, which is capable of taking some fantastic shots that have higher detail levels with even skin tones and accurate colors. When it comes to video recording, the Xiaomi Mix Flip can shoot up to 8K@24FPS or 4K@60FPS from the rear cameras with Dolby Vision HDR for a true HDR video recording. However, the selfie camera can only record at a maximum of 4K@60FPS.
Battery and Others
The Xiaomi Mix Flip has a 4780 mAh high-capacity battery, which should comfortably deliver 1 – 2 days’ worth of battery life with medium to light usage. However, if you play games for a long period, the phone will not last a full day but there’s nothing to worry about as the smartphone supports both 67W super-fast wired charging.
This charger can fully charge the battery in under an hour and 40 minutes but sadly, there’s no wireless charging support. Apart from that, the smartphone comes with a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, dual-band Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, stereo speakers, GPS, and USB Type-C for charging. The price of the smartphone starts at $896 (Rs 74,990 in India) approx.

Conclusion
The Xiaomi Mix Flip provides a flagship-level experience with almost everything you could expect from it. The foldable phone is incredibly slim, even when it’s in a folded position. This provides a fantastic user experience that will surely elevate how you perceive foldable smartphones. The displays are flagship-level and will provide a solid experience. The same is true for the phone’s other components, such as design, chipset, camera, battery, and more.
All in all, it’s a solid foldable smartphone that will not disappoint in daily day-to-day usage. However, there are a few compromises as well. Considering the specs and the experience it provides, the pricing is okay but could have been a lot better. Xiaomi wanted to rejuvenate the foldable market, which is quickly losing interest, and we are not sure if the starting prices of the phone are going to attract more users.
The Motorola Razr 40 Ultra seems to deliver more than what the Xiaomi Mix Flip does at a much lower price. It has both water resistance and wireless charging, which were missing from the Xiaomi Mix Flip. However, the final decision is up to you, so it is better to choose a smartphone based on your needs and requirements.
