Design and Display

In terms of design, the phone looks quite nice considering the price tag. The Diamond Glow color particularly has a very nice pattern on the back that almost looks like glass cut with diamond, hence the name. It has one more color, Midnight Blue and that also looks classy, but if you are someone who needs a bit of style, then you should definitely go with Diamond Glow.

The sides are flat with chamfered edges, which not only gives you a good grip but makes it hard for the phone to slip out of your fingers. The back is also completely flat and it features the camera module and the Vivo branding and that’s it. Design-wise, it’s quite nice, especially at such an entry-level range.

On the front, you get a 6.51 inches IPS LCD with a tall 20:9 screen to body ratio, which will allow the screen to view more content vertically. Also, the display has a waterdrop notch, which houses the selfie camera. The display is not Full HD+ but Just HD that’s not to say that the display is bad, but the lack of Full HD resolution means that the texts and letters of each text will look a bit hazier and blurrier, and considering the price range, Vivo should have provided a Full HD display. After all, the price is not that affordable.

Memory and Internal

When it comes to the internal specifications of the phone and what’s powering it, you get a 12nm Mediatek Helio P22 SoC, which is clocked at max 2GHz. This processor features a total of 8 cores and these cores are based on lower power Cortex-A53 cores, which even at 2GHz is not very fast and can take a while to load some apps.

The processor is not that bad but this type of processor is mostly designed to run on operating systems such as the special “Go edition” of Android, which is designed to run well on low-end phones. But instead, it has Android 11 os with Funtouch 11.1 UI on top of it, which can be a bit heavy for low-end processors like the Helio P22.

However, most basic apps such as Gmail, YouTube, and Google Search should work just fine. As for memory and internal storage, you get 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, which is actually enough for budget devices. If you feel 64 GB storage is too low for you, you can get a MicroSD card as the phone supports a dedicated MicroSD slot.

Camera

The camera setup is pretty simple, but there is a bit of trickery going on. At first glance, you would assume it’s a triple camera setup seeing three camera-like cut-outs, but you actually get 2 cameras and the third cut-out is actually not real and just the word AI printed on it. However, the main 13MP camera is not bad.

The pictures coming off the sensor are quite good with a good amount of details, and the color balance is on point. But the second camera is actually a 2MP Macro sensor, which can take some average-looking macro shots. The 8MP selfie camera, however, is not very optimized and can take better photos. It can take decent selfies but the detail levels are just average.

The picture quality coming out of the cameras are nothing to write more about but decent enough to see. Also, the nighttime shots are just average and there can be a bit of noise. For video recording, the phone manages to shoot up to a maximum resolution of 1080p@30FPS from both the rear and the selfie camera.

Battery and Others

The Vivo Y21A has a Li-Po 5000 mAh battery and that’s quite large. The battery backup is quite amazing and since it features P22 SoC, which uses very power-efficient A53 cores, the phone consumes very little power and the battery doesn’t die easily. You can easily get 2 days + battery and if you don’t run any heavy apps or games, the phone may even run for 3 days. This is actually quite good compared to other smartphones in the market.

Also, the 18W fast charger can easily charge the phone in about 90 minutes, which is quite fast considering the battery has a humongous 5000mAh capacity. Apart from that, the phone also has dual-band Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5, and a headphone jack, and comes with reverse charging support.
