Design and Display
The back of the Vivo V23 Pro smartphone is gold in color but when you take out the phone in the open, it will change its color. That’s because it has a color-changing back. It happens when strong light falls on the back of the phone. The back glass is designed with a unique composition of fluorite and other materials to give it a unique anti-glare finish.
While the color is generally gold, the presence of UV rays on the glass back will cause it to change into a different. The metallic frame that runs around the phone’s edges is curved to fit both the curved display on the front and the curved back nicely. Due to the curved nature of the phone, the phone feels very premium to hold, but it also makes it a bit more slippery. You can also buy the phone in black, which comes in a matte finish as well.
The display in this phone is 6.56 inches of AMOLED Full HD+ display, and it is protected by the Schott Xensation α glass coating. While the screen protection sounds good, we have no idea how it compares to the Gorilla Glass level of protection, but the good thing is that the display has some protection and a 90Hz refresh rate for a smoother touch experience. The display is also certified with HDR10+. The phone is available in Sunshine Gold, and Stardust Black color option.
Memory and Internal
Inside the Vivo V23 Pro, you will find the 6nm Mediatek Dimensity 1200 5G SoC. The Dimensity 1200 5G SoC has three clusters of cores. The first cluster has only one Cortex-A78 core clocked at 3GHz speed. Combining all these, you get a flagship-grade performance level that can compete with the big boys like the Samsung Galaxy S21 series.
Being manufactured on a 6nm process, this processor is highly efficient. So, the phone will consume a very low battery, but we will talk more about that in the battery section. To play games like BGMI and COD mobile smoothly and stutter-free, you get the Mali-G77 MC9 GPU, which has a total of 9 cores. It doesn’t overheat either, and temperatures are way below uncomfortable levels.
The V23 Pro phone comes in two variants, the base variant has 8GB of RAM and 128GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage, but the higher-end variant has 12GB RAM and 256GB internal storage with the top model. You will also get the latest Android 12 OS with Vivo’s newest Funtouch 12 UI, and the device also supports dual 5G sim service.
Camera
The main highlight of the Vivo V23 Pro rear camera is the 108MP sensor that can take some amazing pictures with a good amount of detail and vibrant colors. The detail levels are quite nice even if you zoom 2x, but the lack of a telephoto camera means anything beyond 2x won’t be very useful. It does have a 120 degree 8MP ultra-wide camera, and though it can also take somewhat decent pictures and natural colors, it can’t provide you with the same level of detail as the main 108MP sensor. Besides this, V23 pro offers a so-called 2MP macro lens in the rear camera setup.
The night-time shots were very impressive as well. The dedicated night mode works amazingly, and the pictures are sharp and have a good amount of detail. But the real emphasis of the V23 Pro phone is the pair of dual selfie cameras. The main 50MP wide selfie camera takes perfect pictures.
The colors are just natural, and the skin tone is captured perfectly. The second 8MP selfie camera takes 105-degree ultrawide photos for the group selfies, and that really does manage to take pictures with a very wide field of view. For all your video shooting, the phone manages to shoot up to 4K video from both the rear and the selfie camera. But the rear cameras are only paired with the gyro-EIS for stable video recording.
Battery and Others
The Li-Po 4300 mAh battery inside the device has a capacity to backup for the full day and comes included with a 44W fast charging. The company claims that the 44W Type-C fast charger can charge the smartphone from 1 to 63% in just 30 minutes. The battery can last more than a day under normal usage, and with heavier usage, it should last for 6 hours of screen time.
The phone has dual-band Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.2, and an under-display fingerprint sensor for biometric authentication. The phone is already available on the online store and the price starts from $560 (Rs 41,999 in India) approx for the base variant, while the top 12GB and 256GB variants will cost more.

Conclusion
Vivo V23 Pro is the first smartphone with a rear color change feature. If the color-changing features, curved screen, and flagship performance appeal to you, then you can choose to buy this phone. But the camera isn’t that great, especially in this price range. The main camera and selfie are amazing, but if you need a better optical zoom and a telephoto camera, the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G is the phone for you, and it’s almost the same price range. But the Vivo V23 Pro’s selfie camera is far superior.
Overall, the price, new color change feature, and spces are acceptable. If you’re okay with the battery capacity and no reverse charging and wireless charging support, you can definitely opt for the Vivo V23 Pro smartphone. So whether this phone is the right phone for you or not depends on what you want from a smartphone.
