Vivo iQOO Z9 Turbo

Vivo iQOO Z9 Turbo Plus Smartphone Review – The Vivo iQOO Z9 Turbo Plus was announced in September 2024 and later went on sale the same day. As of now, it is only available in China but will soon be available in more countries globally, including India. iQOO mostly focuses on the budget section with its Z series smartphones, but this time the company is targeting the high-end and enthusiast gaming audience.

Gamers like powerful chipsets, so the company has included a flagship-grade chipset from MediaTek that can play many games at the highest graphical quality. The Vivo iQOO Z9 Turbo+ also has other high-end technologies, including fast 5G connectivity. In terms of design, this smartphone looks similar to Vivo iQOO 12, especially from the rear side. Let’s begin with a detailed review of the iQOO Z9 Turbo Plus smartphone and see if this smartphone is worth purchasing.

Vivo iQOO Z9 Turbo Plus Smartphone Review

Highlights

  1. The Vivo iQOO Z9 Turbo Plus features a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with 144Hz high refresh rate support.
  2. The smartphone is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9300+ 5G chipset, which can reach clock speeds of up to 1×3.4 GHz.
  3. The Vivo iQOO Z9 Turbo+ comes pre-loaded with Android 14 and OriginOS 4 user interface, which has more customization options.
  4. The phone has a 50MP dual rear camera system with a 16MP selfie camera.
  5. The Vivo iQOO Z9 Turbo+ has a 6400mAh high-capacity battery with 80W wired fast charging support.

Design and Display

Vivo iQOO Z9 Turbo+ features a simplistic design that looks quite elegant. It’s all thanks to the flat design with chamfered edges that not only look good but also feel good in the hand. Holding the phone is a lot more comfortable, which will ensure that it doesn’t slip out of your hands easily. It comes in three colors, Black, White, and Titanium.

The Titanium color, in particular, looks the best, but that depends on person to person. The iQOO Z9 Turbo+ also looks great from the front side, thanks to the extremely thin bezels. As for the display, you will find a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with 144Hz high refresh rate support. It’s a good quality panel that has FHD+ resolution and support for up to 1 billion colors, which will ensure you have the best visual experience. The screen can get extremely bright at 4500 nits, which makes it easily visible, even under direct sunlight. On top of that, the phone has an IP64 rating for dust and water splash resistance.

Memory and Internal

The Vivo iQOO Z9 Turbo smartphone is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9300+ 5G chipset, which can reach clock speeds of up to 1×3.4 GHz. This is a flagship chipset, which is usually featured on high-end and expensive smartphones. It is just as fast as the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset found in other flagship phones.

It can run anything you throw at it, including any apps and games. Speaking of games, the Dimensity 9300+ chipset can play games such as PUBG, Black Desert Mobile, CODm, or even Genshin Impact at high framerates. Also, there are no overheating issues, thanks to the large vapor chamber inside. The chipset also has a 5G modem, which allows for faster download speeds and low-latency gaming in online games.

The smartphone is running on Android 14 with OriginOS 4 user interface for more customization options. When it comes to RAM and storage, the phone is available in 12GB+256GB, 16GB+256GB, 12GB+512GB, and 16GB+512GB RAM and storage configurations.

Camera

The Vivo iQOO Z9 Turbo Plus sports a 50MP dual rear camera system. The pictures coming out of the 50MP main rear camera is actually quite decent. These pictures have a better dynamic range, proper white balance, natural colors, and a higher detail level. However, don’t compare the pictures from this phone with flagship smartphones since it would be unfair to do so, especially considering the price difference between the two.

The secondary 8MP ultra-wide camera is just average at best and far from the quality of the main camera. The picture quality is just enough for uploading on social media platforms and nothing more than that. The selfie camera has a 16MP sensor, which can take decent selfies with great quality, higher detail levels, and natural colors.

As for video recording, the phone can only shoot at a maximum of 4K@30/60FPS from the rear camera, while the selfie cameras can record at a max resolution of 1080P@30FPS. Any footage taken from the main rear camera will be stabilized due to the presence of OIS, but the same cannot be said for the selfie cameras.

Battery and Others

The smartphone has a huge Si/C 6400 mAh high-capacity battery that can easily power the smartphone for 2 -3 full days with light to moderate usage. However, if you play a lot of games or run a lot of heavy apps, such as video editing, then the battery won’t last that long. When you do run out of battery, you can quickly recharge the battery as the smartphone has support for 80W wired fast charging.

This 80W wired fast charger can quickly charge your smartphone up to 100% at around 30 minutes. Apart from that, the phone also has Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, an under-display fingerprint scanner, GPS, NFC,  and a USB Type-C port for charging. The smartphone is available in China at a starting price of $358 (Rs 29,999 in India) approx.

Conclusion

The Vivo iQOO Z9 Turbo Plus is an enthusiast class of smartphone that has all the right specs that users expect from it, especially in this price bracket. An enthusiast gaming-grade phone needs four critical things: Display, chipset, battery, and charging speed, and the iQOO Z9 Turbo+ excels in all four of them.

The display is fantastic and can get extremely bright. The chipset can run high-fidelity games at high framerates. The Vivo iQOO Z9 Turbo+ has a huge battery inside, which can power your gameplay sessions for multiple hours without any issues. When the battery goes low, its super-fast charger will quickly get it up and running for your next gaming session.

If gaming and multitasking are all you care about, this is a fantastic phone and will not disappoint, but that doesn’t mean it’s not good in other areas. Not at all. In fact, it has an excellent design and a great camera setup. They are not the best, but they are more than good enough. The best part of this smartphone is its price, which makes it an extremely great deal.

The only alternative to this smartphone would be the Xiaomi Poco F6, which provides a similarly powerful chipset for gaming and is available in more regions already. It also costs the same. However, the final decision is up to you, so it is better to choose a smartphone based on your requirements and needs.
