Tecno Spark 20P Smartphone Review – Tecno released the Tecno Spark 20P in June 2024, and the smartphone went on sale later that month. Like other Tecno smartphones, the Tecno Spark 20P has launched globally but the rollout will be gradual. This is a budget smartphone, so it doesn’t have 5G connectivity, which could be a dealbreaker for many.
The Tecno Spark 20P has the same design philosophy as Tecno’s other 2024 smartphones, so it looks eerily similar to them. It’s a nice design and comes with new colors to impress potential buyers. However, the budget market is extremely competitive and this smartphone will have a tough battle ahead. Let’s begin with a detailed review of the Tecno Spark 20P smartphone and see if this smartphone is worth purchasing.

Tecno Spark 20P Smartphone Review

- The smartphone comes with Android 13 OS, which has a lot of features.
- The Tecno Spark 20P has a 50MP single rear camera system with an 8MP selfie camera.
- The smartphone is powered by a 5000 mAh battery with an 18W wired fast charging support.
Design and Display
The design of the Tecno Spark 20P is quite similar to Tecno’s other smartphones. It has the same flat design with an iPhone-like camera island on the rear side. However, the design looks quite nice and the colors really complement the phone. It is available in Alpenglow Gold and Magic Skin color options.
Since the phone has a flat shape, the grip is solid and it doesn’t slip out of your hands easily. On the front, you will find the display with a small waterdrop notch. Speaking of the display, the Tecno Spark 20P features a 6.6-inch IPS display with 90Hz high refresh rate support.
The panel features accurate colors and gets decently bright, so watching content on the screen will be a delight. However, the display only has an HD+ resolution, which will not sit well with some people. A phone launched in 2024 should have an FHD+ resolution, even if it’s a budget phone.
Memory and Internal
The Tecno Spark 20P comes equipped with a MediaTek 4G chipset that is capable of reaching clock speeds of up to 2.2 GHz, which should have enough power to run all your everyday apps and games decently well. Speaking of gaming, this chipset can run basic games decently well but don’t expect it to play heavier games like Genshinn Impact. It can’t play that game since it’s not a gaming smartphone.
The thermal system of the phone is also done right, so the phone will not overheat under normal circumstances. Also, Tecno decided to skip 5G connectivity on this smartphone for cost-cutting measures. The Tecno Spark 20P is running on Android 13 OS, which has a lot of features. It would have been appreciated if it had the latest Android 14 but there’s nothing we can do.
The smartphone also comes equipped with 4GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. There’s support for a microSDXC expansion slot as well and it allows you to expand your internal storage further. There’s also a 3.5mm headphone jack, which is something you don’t get in expensive phones these days.
Camera
The Tecno Spark 20P comes with a 50MP single rear camera system. The main camera features a 50MP sensor that takes some decent photos with detail levels that are impressive for the price tag. The color tone of the pictures also looks close to natural. There’s also a secondary auxiliary lens but it’s useless. It’s there to give the phone a more premium appearance but it can do nothing more than that.
On the front of the Tecno Spark 20P, there’s an 8MP selfie camera and it can take some average selfies at best. It’s not going to win any record but it’s not bad either. The quality is just enough to post them on social media. As for video recording, the Tecno Spark 20P can shoot at a maximum resolution of 1080p@30FPS from the rear camera. However, there’s no image stabilization of any kind.
Battery and Others
The Tecno Spark 20P has a 5000mAh high-capacity battery, which is capable of providing excellent battery backup. It can easily last for 2 days or even more with a light and medium usage that includes a bit of camera, social media, YouTube, and so on.
But with heavier photo editing or gaming, the battery will drain faster and may not even last a full day. The smartphone supports 18W wired fast charging. An 18W charger isn’t really a fast charger but at least is bundled in the box. Other smartphone makers are removing the charger from the box, but that’s not the case here. This charger can fully charge the battery in about three hours.
Apart from that, the phone also has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, GPS, NFC, and a USB Type-C port. The smartphone also has a stereo speaker setup, which is honestly surprising at this price range. Speaking of pricing, the phone is available for purchase at around $191 (Rs 15,999 in India) approx.

Conclusion
The Tecno Spark 20P possesses extremely low-end specs. It doesn’t have water resistance or front glass protection. The only good things about the phone are its design, camera, and battery. All the internal components, even the low-end ones, would have been acceptable if the pricing was right, which it is not. Tecno called it a budget phone but it is not really. It’s an extremely low-end budget phone in terms of the specs inside, but it is priced like a mid-range smartphone. It doesn’t even have 5G which would have been okay for a budget phone but once again, the phone is not really priced like a budget phone.
We do not recommend this phone at all. Users should instead avoid a phone like the OnePlus Ace 3V, which has far better specs in every department and still costs a little more than Tecno Spark 20P. However, the final decision is up to you, so it is better to choose a smartphone based on your requirements and needs.
