Tecno Phantom V Flip 2

Tecno Phantom V Flip 2 Smartphone Review – The Tecno Phantom V Flip 2 was announced in September 2024 and will go on sale sometime in October 2024. Tecno’s smartphones will first launch in Africa, followed closely by Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America, so expect this foldable phone to also do the same. In terms of design, the Tecno Phantom V Flip 2 looks similar to Motorola Razr 50.

Tecno wants to impress modern users with this foldable phone, so they have included some high-end components inside, including 5G connectivity, a decent chipset, faster charging, and more. Let’s begin with a detailed review of the new Tecno Phantom V Flip 2 and see if this smartphone is worth purchasing.

  5. The Tecno Phantom V Flip 2 has a 4720mAh battery with 70W of fast-wired charging support.

Design and Display

The design of the Tecno Phantom V Flip 2 is similar to the Motorola Razr 50. The body of the phone is made of aluminum, steel, and glass construction. The side and mid-frame are made of aluminum, while the foldable hinge is constructed from Steel for better finish and smoothness. The design is flat with rounded edges, which makes it more comfortable to hold the phone, even when it is folded.

However, the bottom rear panel is made of eco-leather, which not only looks good but also feels fantastic in the hand. It can be purchased in Gray and Green colors. As for the front, it primarily consists of a bezel-less 6.9-inches Foldable LTPO AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate for a smooth user experience.

This screen features accurate colors and can get quite bright under direct sunlight, so it will be a pleasure to use the phone outdoors. When the phone is folded, you will also find a cover display with a 3.64-inch AMOLED panel with 60Hz refresh rate support. This cover display can also get a lot brighter and is protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass but Tecno didn’t which version specifically.

Memory and Internal

The new Tecno Phantom V Flip 2 is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8020 5G processor, which can reach clock speeds of up to 4×2.6 GHz. It’s a decently powerful chipset that can comfortably run any apps you throw at it. The higher 2.6GHz clock speed allows it to process a tremendous amount of data, so everything runs quite smoothly.

The Phantom V Flip 2 has the Mali-G77 MC9 GPU, which can play graphically demanding games like Genshin Impact, CODm, PUBG, Summoners War, and Black Desert Mobile without any issues. The phone comes with Android 14 with a HIOS 14 user interface for more customization options. The OS is also optimized with AI to provide a better foldable experience. It also has support for 5G connectivity for gigabit download speeds and lower latency in multiplayer games. The new flip phone also comes with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of UFS internal storage, which cannot be expanded later.

Camera

The Tecno Phantom V Flip 2 has a new 50MP dual rear camera system. The 50MP primary rear camera is properly optimized and can capture pictures with a high dynamic range, more details, and saturated colors. The secondary 50MP ultra-wide camera is equally impressive with similar detail levels and everything as the main camera but captures pictures with a 114˚ wide field of view.

There’s also support for night mode, which allows it to capture some amazing pictures at night, even in the darkest environment. For selfies, the 32MP selfie camera can take some decent pictures with great detail levels, great dynamic range, and natural skin tones. When it comes to video recording, the rear camera is capable of recording videos at 4K@30FPS. However, the selfie camera maxes out at 1440p@30FPS when recording videos. The primary rear camera also has OIS for stable video footage but the same cannot be said for the other lenses.

Battery and Others

The Tecno Phantom V Flip 2 is equipped with a 4720mAh battery, which combined with the efficient components inside allows the new phone can deliver 1 – 2 days of battery life. However, if you do a lot of gaming, then the battery will drain faster and may require you to charge the phone again by the end of the day.

However, the Phantom V Flip 2 supports 70W of wired fast charging, which can charge the phone to 50% in just 15 minutes and fully charge the phone in 45 minutes. Apart from that, the phone has support for dual-band Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, NFC, stereo speakers, and a USB Type-C connector for charging. As for pricing, the phone starts at $631 (Rs 52,999 in India) approx.

Conclusion

The new Tecno Phantom V Flip 2 is an interesting smartphone considering the price. Most foldable phones have a higher tag but this one comes at a much reasonable price, which makes it quite attractive. Tecno also didn’t make any compromise to get to this pricing. It has a decent set of components inside.

The design is certainly quite premium and feels really good in hand due to the use of eco-leather. The two displays are also quite good and get decently bright outdoors. The chipset is quite capable and can easily run graphically demanding games without any issues. Even the battery life and charging speed are quite good considering the price.

Let’s not forget about the camera performance, which is also excellent. The only two complaints we have with this phone are the inclusion of a default refresh rate for the cover display and the missing IP rating. However, we can ignore them since the pricing is fantastic.

The only alternative to this phone would be the Motorola Razr 50, which has water resistance, wireless charging, a faster refresh rate for the cover display, and more for a slightly higher price tag. However, the final decision is up to you, so it is better to choose a smartphone based on your needs and requirements.
