Samsung Galaxy A54 Pros and Cons

Samsung Galaxy M55s Smartphone Review – The Samsung Galaxy M55s was announced in India in September 2024 and went on sale the same month. Usually, Samsung’s smartphones are released globally, but that may not be the case with this model. That’s because this new smartphone has exactly the same specs as the regular Galaxy M55, including 5G connectivity.

The only difference in the Galaxy M55s is the use of three different textures on the rear panel, which gives it a unique appearance that no other Samsung phone has. The company really wanted to impress its users, so it decided to give the phone a great design, but the use of the same internal components made it a controversial choice.

Not to mention, the mid-range segment has become quite competitive recently, which is also not good news for a phone that brings nothing new to the table other than the design. Let’s begin with a detailed review of the Samsung Galaxy M55s and see if this smartphone is worth purchasing.

Design and Display

The Samsung Galaxy M55s features a brand-new design with three different types of textures on the rear panel. It seems Samsung went with a bold design choice with this phone, and it has turned out fantastic. The design is eye-catching and looks better than every other Samsung phone in this price bracket.

However, the body is made of polycarbonate, but it is of good kind, so there’s no creaking or bending of any sort. The side frame is curved, which makes the phone more comfortable in the hand and doesn’t slip out easily. The smartphone is quite thin at just 7.8mm and is relatively lightweight. The Samsung Galaxy M55s phone is available in Thunder Black and Coral Green colors.

As for the display, this phone has a 6.7-inches Super AMOLED+ display with a 120Hz high refresh rate. The bezels around the display are quite thin, just like Samsung’s high-end smartphones, even though this phone doesn’t cost the same. The display features an FHD+ panel, so watching content on this screen will be a pleasure. The display can reach 1000 nits under direct sunlight, so using the smartphone outdoors won’t be an issue. However, the screen has no protection, and there’s no dust and water resistance as well.

Memory and Internal

The Samsung Galaxy M55s is equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 5G chipset, which is capable of reaching clock speeds of up to 1×2.4 GHz, just like the regular Samsung Galaxy M55. Upgrading other components inside the phone would have resulted in a significantly higher price, and Samsung didn’t want that, which is understandable. However, the company could have at least upgraded the chipset, but that’s not the case here.

Don’t get us wrong. This is a decent chipset, but it is two years old in 2024. Since its initial release, four more chips have been released in the Snapdragon 7 series. Samsung could have offered for any of them but didn’t, which is certainly disappointing. Nonetheless, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 is a capable chipset that can run your daily apps smoothly without any issues.

However, other smartphones in this price range offer much better and newer chipsets like the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 or the newly released Snapdragon 7s Gen 3. As for gaming, the Adreno 644 GPU can run games like PUBGm, CODm, Summoners War, Black Desert Mobile, and even Genshin Impact comfortably at decent framerates. The smartphone also supports 5G connectivity for gigabit download speeds and a better online gaming experience due to low latency.

For memory and storage, the Samsung Galaxy M55s can be purchased in 8GB+128GB of RAM & storage and 8gb+256GB of RAM & storage. However, if you manage to fill the entire storage, there’s also support for a microSDXC slot for storage expansion. The smartphone runs on Android 14 with One UI 6.1 for better customization options. Samsung also promised to provide 4 years of Android updates and 5 years of security updates with this smartphone.

Camera

The Samsung Galaxy M55s is equipped with a 50MP triple rear camera setup. The primary 50MP sensor manages to capture some fantastic pictures with great detail levels, high dynamic range, and natural color tone. Samsung smartphone cameras have always been good, and the same is true with this phone as well.

The secondary 8MP ultra-wide camera can take some decent pictures but is not on the same level as the main camera. The smartphone also supports night mode, and the camera sensors are optimized to capture more light than usual. This results in pictures that are brighter than ever and have more details.

The last 2MP macro camera is completely useless and is there just for the show. On the front, you get a 50MP selfie sensor, which can capture some great selfies with natural colors and even skin tone. When it comes to video recording, the smartphone can shoot up to 4K@30FPS from both the main rear camera and the selfie camera. The main rear camera has both OIS and gyro-EIS, so videos recorded from this camera have very stable footage, but the same cannot be said for the selfie camera.

Battery and Others

The new Samsung Galaxy M55s is equipped with a 5000mAh battery that can last about 1 – 2 days with lighter usage. This includes a bit of camera, texting, social media, and some calls. However, the battery will drain faster if you play a lot of games, and the smartphone may not last a full day. The same goes for downloading movies via 5G, which can have a considerable impact on the battery’s performance.

On a positive note, Samsung has equipped the Galaxy M55s with 45W fast wired charging support, so it can fully charge the smartphone in under an hour and a half. Apart from that, the smartphone has support for Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, an under-display fingerprint sensor, NFC, and a USB Type-C connector for charging. The smartphone is available for $240 (Rs 19,999 in India) approx.

Conclusion

The Samsung Galaxy M55s had a very controversial launch since it brought nothing new to the table, except for the change in design, but it launched at a lower price than its predecessor and essentially replaced the original model. Having the same specs as the original M55 gave it a bad name, but it’s actually a decent phone now due to the lower price tag.

The display, memory, sound, camera, and even the fingerprint sensors are quite good, just like how it was on the original Galaxy M55. Not to mention, we really loved the new design, and it feels quite good in the hand. It’s a decent phone on its own but made controversial due to its link to the Galaxy M55. However, if you don’t care about that and just want a new smartphone, then this phone is recommended, especially considering the four years of OS and five years of security updates.

The best alternative to this phone would be the OnePlus Nord CE 4, which provides a better chipset, an IP rating, higher battery capacity, and much faster charging speed for a slightly higher price tag than the Samsung phone. However, the final decision is up to you, so it is better to choose a smartphone based on your requirements and needs.
