Samsung Galaxy M23 Pros and Cons

Samsung Galaxy M23 Review – The Samsung Galaxy M23 was launched globally in April 2022. The M series of phones from Samsung are generally geared towards affordable performance users and with this device, they can have it all including 5G. Thanks to the modern chipset, the Samsung Galaxy M23 smartphone has a 5G modem integrated into the chipset and it supports dual-sim 5G support. In terms of design, the phone is reminiscent of the Galaxy F23 smartphone.

The Samsung Galaxy M23 smartphone comes with a decent camera, chipset, 5G support, and massive battery support. Let’s start with a detailed review of the Samsung Galaxy M23 smartphone.

Samsung Galaxy M23 Review

Highlights

  1. The Samsung Galaxy M23 features a 6.6-inches TFT LCD display panel with a 120Hz refresh rate.
  2. The chipset is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G 5G SoC that can reach up to a 2.2GHz clocking speed.
  3. The phone comes pre-loaded with the latest Android 12 OS and One UI 4.1 user interface.
  4. The main rear camera is a 50MP sensor, while the selfie camera is an 8MP sensor.
  5. The phone has Li-Po 5000mAh long-lasting battery with 25W fast charging support.

Design and Display

The design of the Samsung Galaxy M23 is very modern with a flat back and slightly curved sides. The flat back makes it look very modern while the curved sides make you have a very solid grip. There is minimal branding on the back, which gives the back a very clean look. In terms of colors, the phone comes in a total of 3 variants, Deep Green, Light Blue, and Orange Copper. The name Orange Copper is weird considering the fact that copper is orangish and there’s no need for another orange word. All kidding aside, the Orange Copper looks absolutely stunning.

As for the display, you get a 6.6-inches TFT LCD display with a high 120Hz refresh rate support. The inclusion of TFT LCD will surely disappoint a lot of people. When it comes to displaying Samsung is the best and largest AMOLED display manufacturer in the world. So, seeing a TFT display in a Samsung phone can be disappointing. If it was a cheap phone, we would understand, but it’s not cheap, not that much. As for the quality of the display, it features accurate colors, and the contents look quite nice on the display. It’s not a bad panel, but even an IPS LCD panel would have been more appreciated. Furthermore, the high 120Hz refresh rate support is provided to compensate for that.

Memory and Internal

As for the internals, the Samsung Galaxy M23 is powered by the8nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G 5G SoC that can reach up to a 2.2GHz clocking speed. This 5G chipset supports dual SIM 5G and the performance of the device will be enough for power-efficient apps such as YouTube or Spotify. The device runs on the latest Android 12 OS with One UI 4.1 user interface.

As for gaming, you get the Adreno 619 GPU, which can run games such as PUBG and Call of Duty at higher graphical settings with a smooth gameplay experience. The phone comes in 2 variants, one with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage and another with 6GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage. Even after providing 128GB of storage in the base model, the company still provides a dedicated microSD card slot in case you would want to expand the storage.

Camera

Let’s talk camera now. You get a triple rear camera setup, with a 50MP main camera, an 8MP ultra-wide camera, and a 2MP macro camera. The 50MP sensor takes decent pictures with a good amount of detail, considering the price of the smartphone. The quality coming out of the sensor is more than what we expected and certainly impressed up, but that’s to be expected, after all, a Samsung phone generally doesn’t disappoint in camera performance and the Galaxy M23 is no different.

The pictures come out okay with good colors, a decent amount of light, and a very natural skin tone. But the night shots are just average and, in some situations, there can be a bit of noise. Don’t keep too many expectations from night photography and the results are just average. They are not that bad at night scenes, but it’s just that people assume that just because it’s Samsung, it will produce an S21 level of pictures, it won’t.

As long as your expectations are on point, the cameras won’t disappoint. The 8MP ultra-wide, however, losses out to the main camera in terms of details, there’s a bit of noticeable decrease in detail levels but good enough to post on social media. Also, the 8MP selfie camera can take some decent selfies with the right skin tones and decent color balance. As for video recording, the main rear camera maxes out at 4K at 30fps and the selfie camera maxes out at 1080P at 30fps.

Battery and Others

The phone has a Li-Po 5000mAh battery, which runs very efficiently and can provide 2 days of backup on low usage which is very impressive and there is 25W fast-charging support. The phone has no overheating issues, even while charging, but it does a little hot during gaming. Apart from that, the phone also has Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, and a USB Type-C 2.0 charging port. The smartphone is on sale right now starting at $275 (Rs 21,999 in India) approx.

Conclusion

The phone holds 5G connectivity, an apt camera, huge battery capacity, decent performance, and doesn’t trouble you in any way. The brand name Samsung can be enough to justify the overall value of the phone. Despite this, the phone specs seem to be underwhelming as per its pricing. You get a TFT LCD display, an 8nm chipset, low 4GB RAM in the base variant.

Though there are various good sides of the phone, except 5G support and the Samsung brand there is no reason to buy this smartphone. There are a lot of better options available at this pricing. Even you get a better smartphone from Samsung if you go a little high or low in your budget. Besides this, the phone fulfills your requirements in every way possible. For now, you can check alternatives once such as the Realme 9 smartphone.
