Realme Neo 7 SE

Realme Neo 7 SE Smartphone Review – The Realme Neo lineup often provides powerful smartphones that appeal mostly to gamers and heavy users. Recently, the company released a new phone known as the Neo 7 SE. There’s no doubt that the previous Neo 7 series phones were quite good, and with the entry of the Neo 7 SE, things are looking great. At the same time, the device can handle extreme levels of processing with a decent chipset. At first glance, it looks like yet another Neo phone.

But it’s become a completely different story when it comes to the hardware. This handset brings an advanced IP rating, cooling system, and a massive battery, all of them packed in a slim build. As of now, the device is only available in China, and there’s a high chance that the company will rebrand this phone for other markets. Now, let’s discover whether Realme Neo 7 SE is worth purchasing.

Realme Neo 7 SE Smartphone Review

Highlights

  1. The device attains a 6.78-inch LTPO OLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate with 6000 nits brightness.
  2. The software layering of Android 15 is powered by the Realme UI 6.0 custom skin.
  3. As for the hardware setup, you will get MediaTek Dimensity 8400 Max, combined with Mali-G720 GPU.
  4. In terms of camera configuration, the phone arrives with a 50MP dual camera and a 16MP selfie sensor.
  5. It offers a 7000 mAh battery capacity with an 80W wired charging support.

Design and Display

The Realme Neo 7 SE phone has three exceptional paint jobs with different textures on the back panel. The Black color variant brings a standard matte finish, and the white one doesn’t look that lackluster. But, the blue color variant arrives with a unique design on the back panel, while the camera module is pretty much the same as the other two options. Design-wise, it’s good to see that the company is trying something out of the box.

As far as the built quality is concerned, the handset brings IP68/IP69 protection, whereas the fingerprint scanner is presented inside the display. Alongside this, it’s quite shocking that Realme reduces the overall thickness of the side panel. The device is barely 8.6 mm thick and weighs 212 grams, which is already a superb feat for the company. Alongside this, the front display got Crystal Armor glass protection instead of standard Gorilla Glass.

Beyond the protection, the 6.78-inch LTPO OLED panel gives impressive colors and contrast color for content consumption. Besides this, you can enjoy high-quality media with HDR support, while the 120Hz refresh rate can be adjusted automatically with the LTPO display technology. In terms of brightness support, the users will obtain up to 6000 nits display.

Memory and Internal

The performance aspect of the Realme Neo 7 SE can be considered best among the mid-range phones. It equips the Medatek Dimensity 8400 Max chipset. This 4nm chip is designed to provide up to 1×3.25GHz clock speed, while the octa-core CPU will handle average usage without any trouble. Hopefully, the company will add Mali-G720 GPU.

Through this hardware configuration, the users won’t face any hassle; whether it’s a long gaming session or a dome-scrolling internet feed. Furthermore, the software interface doesn’t fall behind, especially when it comes to providing customization features. The latest Android 15 based on Realme UI 6.0 brings cool perks like smooth animation, better security, and controlled privacy features. Besides this, the interface also includes new AI features for photo editing.

It includes AI removal reflection, nose reduction, white-balance control, and many others. Typically, Realme phones provide two to three years of system updates. But the Realme Neo lineup often gets delayed updates. Still, the company will provide standard system updates. However, the company didn’t clarify about the number of system updates. Anyway, you don’t have to compromise with the storage and RAM combinations. The device will receive 256GB to 512GB UFS 4.0 space, while the RAM can vary from 8GB, 12GB, to even 16GB.

Camera

From the specs point of view, the Realme Neo 7 SE obtains a dual camera setup on top of a rectangular camera island. This setup includes a 50MP primary sensor (Sony IMX882) that supports optical image stabilization. Apart from this, the 8MP ultra-wide lines provide decent dynamic range photos. Last but not least, the front display obtains a 16MP punch-hole selfie camera.

Undoubtedly, the Neo 7 SE is a mid-range smartphone, and expecting outstanding camera results would be meaningless. Still, the main camera clicks crystal clear pictures with accurate details and natural colors. The portrait modes look a bit smooth and artificial, while the wide-angle photos do lack details. Still, the noise reduction software improves the low-light images.

The native camera app is pretty much the same. Yet, there’s no denying that the picture is far behind flagship phones. The lack of details and the soft colors are the drawbacks of the Neo 7 SE. This is one of the sections where the company could have improved a bit. Despite this, the video recording doesn’t feel like a hassle as recording 4K videos is possible with the primary camera. Aside from this, this selfie lens can record up to 1080p resolution videos at max.

Battery and Others

Under the hood, the Realme Neo 7 SE will obtain a colossal-sized 7000 mAh battery, which usually appears on rugged smartphones. However, seeing that much battery capacity on Neo 7 SE is a good thing since users will receive more screen time for their desired activities. Following this, the company claims that the battery percentage could refill up to 50% in less than 25 minutes. You must use the Realme’s official 80W charger to obtain the same results.

Apart from providing an ample battery, the company didn’t compromise with other departments. You get the latest Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, and other important sensors. As for the sound output, let’s just consider it above average, thanks to the stereo speaker. The phone should be priced around $252 (Rs 21,990 in India) approx. Note that, the price could differ depending on the time you are purchasing the phone.

Conclusion

Realme Neo 7 SE positions itself as a remarkable device in the mid-range segment. Unlike many brands, the Neo 7 SE provides overall better performance, a beautiful display, and long-lasting battery life. On the other hand, you will obtain average camera performance, not that extensive software update policy, and a slightly heavy body. Apart from this, there aren’t many things that you need to consider.

Like most of the Realme Neo phones, the phone will be exclusive to the Chinese smartphone market. But, if you want a value-for-money deal, consider getting the Xiaomi Poco X7 instead. It provides a similar level of performance, and it’s available in most of the markets. Now, it’s up to you to choose a phone that aligns with your preferences and priorities.
