Realme GT 2

Realme GT2 Pro Review – Realme GT2 Pro was announced and released in China in January 2022, with a global release set for some time in Q1, 2022. If you are looking for extreme performance and a decent flagship experience at a low cost, then this phone is bound to satisfy you as it comes with the brand-new flagship processor 4nm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset.

We say this will provide a “decent flagship” because it lacks certain features found in other flagships. It has top-end specs but lacks wireless charging and water resistance features, so it’s not a full-fledged flagship phone. The unique feature of this phone is the new material they used for the back of the phone. It’s soft to touch, matte in finish, and feels incredible to touch. With that said, let’s begin with a detailed review of the Realme GT 2 Pro smartphone.

Realme GT2 Pro Review

Highlights

  1. The Realme GT2 Pro features 6.7 inches QHD+ LTPO2 AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 1B colors.
  2. It is powered by the latest flagship 4nm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor that boosts up to 3GHz processing speed..
  3. It comes pre-loaded with Android 12 out of the box and has the new Realme UI 3.0.
  4. The phone has a triple camera system with the main rear camera sensor is a 50MP wide sensor with an omnidirectional phase detection autofocus and a 32MP selfie camera.
  5. The battery powering the smartphone is a Li-Po 5000mAh battery with 65W of fast charging, which the company claims can fully charge the phone in just 33 minutes.

Design and Display

The design of the Realme GT2 Pro smartphone is quite classy to look and even more premium to touch, depending on the color. The phone comes in four colors option: Paper White, Paper Green, Steel Black, and Titanium Blue. Paper White and paper Green are the two colors that come in an exquisite paper-like finish, and that’s what gives the phone its uniqueness. Both these colors are based on a special biopolymer that has been developed in-house by Naoto Fukasawa. Fukasawa has been known to design some of the most exquisite designs, and previously designed a couple of Realme phones, but this just might be his best work at Realme.

The specially developed polymer is what gives this phone its unique paper-like soft-touch texture. The back houses the triple camera module, while the metallic frame around the edges houses the power button, the volume buttons, the sim card tray, and the antenna bands. The front of the phone houses the gorgeous 6.7-inches LTPO2 AMOLED display manufactured by Samsung. The display at QHD+ (1440p) resolution combined with 120Hz and 1B colors is beyond anything you have ever seen. Everything you see is very crisp due to HDR10+ support, and the colors are properly saturated.

All in all, this could very well be the best mobile display as of yet. Due to such high resolution, the phone has 509 PPI density and is protected by the latest and greatest Gorilla Glass Victus. The display is also HDR10+ certified, so you watch all your content at the highest quality possible.

Memory and Internal

The Realme GT2 Pro smartphone is powered by the new flagship 4nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset. The new processor comes 1+3+4 configuration, and the main prime core runs at 3GHz, the two more performance cores are clocked at 2.50Ghz, and the efficiency cores are clocked at 1.80GHz. The phone comes in four variants: 8GB/12GB of RAM and 128GB /256GB/512GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage. Unfortunately, you will not get micro SD card support with the GT 2 Pro smartphone.

The top edition is for those who shoot a whole lot of videos at 4K and even 8K, which the phone does support. The inclusion of 512GB of internal memory should be enough to store all your precious photos, videos, and movies. The fingerprint sensor is an under-display optical sensor that is quite fast and responsive. It is running on the latest Android 12 OS out of the box and has the Realme UI 3.0 customization.

Camera

Let’s start with the rear triple camera system, the main rear camera is a 50MP wide sensor with omnidirectional phase detection autofocus and optical image stabilization, a 50MP ultra-wide sensor with a 150-degree field of view, and a 3MP microscopic sensor. The main 50MP wide sensor takes some really amazing shots. The colors, the dynamic range, the details, everything is uniquely captured. The 3MP microscope camera takes some incredible AF photos as well. The 40x magnification allows you more detail of the environment in your shots.

Even during the night, the phone manages to capture a good amount of light in the darker environments. But if you want even more details, you can toggle the Night mode. While the night photography has surprisingly impressed us, it still can’t quite match the likes of the iPhone 13 Pro Max or the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra. The 3MP with 40x magnification and autofocus is not that bad and can capture even the tiniest elements.

Both the wide and the ultra-wide sensors can shoot at 4K@60FPS and even 8K@30FPS, but only the wide sensor has OIS, and the ultra-wide will have to rely on gyro-based EIS support for stable video recording. The selfie camera is a 32MP sensor that takes some decent selfies with a good amount of details and max 1080p@30fps for video recording.

Battery and Others

The battery inside the smartphone has a capacity of Li-Po 5000mAh that will give you a full day battery backup unless you shoot a lot of 8K footage which will consume a lot of battery. The phone has 65W of fast charging, which the company claims can fully charge the phone in just 33 minutes, and the phone is certainly ready for use.

The 65W Type-C fast charger is included but lacks wireless charging, reverse charging, and water resistance features. Apart from these, the device also comes equipped with a Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/6, Bluetooth 5.2, a dual-band GPS system, and a faster under-display fingerprint scanner. The phone starts at a price of $895 (Rs 67,000 in India) approx.

Conclusion

The Realme GT2 Pro smartphone provides you with the best possible specs on the market, including the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Still, the lack of certain features such as wireless charging, reverse charging, and water resistance may disappoint you to some extent. If you are satisfied with the specs, then you may choose to buy this smartphone.

In case you do need a phone that provides a complete flagship feature set, then you should look for the Samsung Galaxy S21 series or Samsung’s budged flagship series such as the Galaxy S20 FE the newly released Galaxy S21 FE smartphone. Both the Galaxy S20 FE and S21 FE have wireless charging, reverse charging, water resistance, and lots of other features in a decent price range. So, the final decision is in your hands and the choice depends on your needs.
