Realme 8s

Realme 8s Review, Pros and Cons – The Realme smartphone rewards exceptional features and specs, the Realme 8s smartphone is an excellent example of this. Following the same legacy, the company has released a rebooted version of Realme 8, as most of the main features of the Realme 8s 5G phone contradict each other. But, the Realme 8s outperforms the previous generation device with its new compact hardware.

Some aspects like battery life, screen quality, and design are the same, but the other sections include hardware that uses steroids. With this, you will get impressive results in daily use. The Realme 8s was released in September 2021, while the phone is available for purchase in India at online stores like Amazon and Flipkart. Without further ado, let’s start the detailed review of the Realme 8s smartphone.

Realme 8s Review

Highlights

  1. The device appears to have a 6.5 inch IPS LCD panel which supports a smooth 90Hz refresh rate.
  2. On the other hand, the processing section keeps a 6 nm MediaTek Dimensity 810 5G chipset under the hood.
  3. As for camera quality, everything is managed via the 64MP main camera setup with 16MP on the front camera.
  4. Following the hardware characteristics, the software edge comes with Realme UI 2.0 custom layers placed on top of Android 11.
  5. The standard 5000 mAh battery comes with a very fast charging support of 33W in terms of battery power.

Design and Display

The Realme 8s 5G equips a key design aspect of the Realme 8 series, although it doesn’t look very aesthetic compared to the Realme Neo GT. But, the phone has its unique design streak and color options that make it stand out from the rest of the sister phones. Also, you can choose shades of blue and purple. We recommend the Purple color option due to its sophisticated look.

In addition to the looks, the phone also offers a decent build quality that will have a premium feel in your hand, although the material used in the phone is plastic. But the smooth finish adds an added touch to the build. While the thickness of the Realme 8s 5G is average, it weighs around 191 grams. In short, the phone is not that heavy, although it has a huge battery under the hood.

Moving on to the front display, the Realme 8s 5G arrives with a slim-bezel display with a dotted selfie on top. In addition, the company also renders a 6.5 inches IPS LCD display that produces over 600 nits of brightness rating, so you can watch the screen outdoors while the smooth interface experience arrives from the refresh rate settings 90Hz. However, there is no information on Gorilla glass protection.

Memory and Internal

The smartphone’s processing unit can significantly render an exceptional gaming experience; the Realme 8s 5G works perfectly with 2x 2.4GHz speed. While we can’t say the processing power is as incredible as conventional hardware, it still offers decent gameplay at default settings. Then, the MediaTek Dimensity 810 5G chipset also offers impeccable support in everyday tasks.

As for the visual department, everything is handled with precision through the Mali-G57 MC2 graphics unit. Moving to the end of the software, you will get the Reamle UI 2.0, which is integrated into the Android 11 operating system. From this configuration, you will get fabulous features from day one. Although the advanced refresh rate improves the user experience in multiple folds simultaneously, there is little bloatware in the interface.

Apparently, Realme 8s supports most 5G bands and offers remarkable connectivity features. Inside the SIM tray, you will have dual SIM support and, surprisingly, you will also have the dedicated SD slot as secondary storage to increase the limits. Now that we have discovered the storage unit, this phone will present you with 6GB or 8GB RAM support with 128GB of storage. With this storage, you will have no problems as it is sufficient for daily use.

Camera

The image processing on Realme phones is good to some extent, and the camera provides a dynamic range of photos and videos. However, sometimes the phone lacks quality, as the AI software messed up the overall results. But in average use, such as in proper daylight, the photos look great, although you don’t get any camera-specific features here.

On the other hand, there are many improvements needed in low light photography, as the software cannot keep up in the dark. Also, you’ll notice gains in the photos from time to time. Still, edge detection is very good, but the same quality would not be constant with the other features. In fact, you can record video up to 1080p, which, by the way, has become a standard for a mid-range phone, although it’s also compatible with the ultra-stable gyro-EIS mode.

Overall, the company tries to deploy multiple features, filters, and user modes, but they fail to maintain the same consistency of quality across all features. Still, the camera setup is decent for the mid-range shopper as it features a 64MP primary camera. But at the same time disappointed to present the useless combination of 2MP macro and 2MP depth sensor. Undoubtedly, the image quality of the 16MP selfie is good, but the same cannot be said of the videos.

Battery and Others

The Realme 8s smartphone has one of the best battery and endurance optimizations in the entire Realme 8 lineup. With a 5000 mAh battery, you can get more than 8 hours of screen time. Also, play for more than 3 hours or more. Additionally, the company added the 33W charger inside the box to power the cells in less than 40 minutes via the Type-C 2.0 USB port.

Furthermore, the phone lacks the primary NFC features but brings impressive connectivity features and sensors that deal with the competition. Surprisingly, the phone also offers a 3.5mm jack port out of the box, at a time when this port is becoming less relevant to trends. Last but not least, the price point of Realme 8s 5G is set around $260 (Rs 19,990) approx, which is quite a tempting price.

Conclusion

The Realme 8S 5G has undoubtedly improved over the Realme 8 as you’ll get more accurate features with a similar Realme UI experience. In addition, the phone offers smooth refresh rate settings, a new chipset, gyro-EIS support, a massive 5000 mAh battery with a 33W fast charger. All these features justify the price but we cannot overlook the fact that the phone lacks some of the remarkable features of the 5G phone.

For example, the phone didn’t have NFC enabled or 4K video recording support, but that’s one of the things the company needs to scale down to maintain the cost-effective 5G tag. Of course, users will only miss out on several features of this tag as the cost of the 5G component is slightly higher. But if you’re looking for a decent and affordable 5G phone, the Realme 8s 5G is a fantastic deal. Still, if you’re getting a discount on the Realme 8 5G, buy it first as most features are similar. If you are looking for an alternative option with the 5G tag, there are several options available on the market, like the Motorola G51 smartphone.
