Oppo A3

Oppo Reno 12F Smartphone Review – The Oppo Reno series doesn’t always consider the best options in the mid-range segment. However, Oppo did learn from their past mistake and started producing decent phones for the last couple of years. Recently, smartphone makers released the Oppo Reno 12F in Thailand, which is expected to be released in the global market. Although, there’s a high chance that the company will rebrand this phone for other markets. As of now, they already released a Reno 12F 4G version with slightly different specs.

On the other hand, this phone didn’t look average from the first impression. As usual, the display is top-notch with an intriguing camera module on the back panel with a decent display at the front. However, when you look at the hardware section, you are getting a mediocre chipset, while the good news would be the Oppo AI integration. But does this Oppo Reno 12F is a great option in the budget segment, let’s find it from the following review.

Oppo Reno 12F Smartphone Review

Highlights

  1. The device arrives with the standard configuration of 6.67 inches AMOLED panel FHD+ resolution and 120Hz refresh rate.
  2. As for the software skin, you will obtain Android 14 and ColorOS 14 interface integrated with Oppo AI software.
  3. As for the performance aspect, the phone relies on the Dimensiity 6300 chipset and regular GPU configuration.
  4. A decent 50MP triple camera with a 32MP selfie lens appears on the Oppo Reno 12F.
  5. Last but not least, it includes a 5000 mAh battery with 45W wired charging support.

Design and Display

The Oppo Reno 12F brings a plastic build with a unique design on the back panel. In the early days, Oppo is known for producing stylish phones with creative designs. But nowadays, the company is focusing on a pretty generic build. Even the Olive Green looks bland, while the Amber Orange is something that stands out for us. Still, the design aspect is subjective for everyone. Both of the paint jobs are looking good.

Aside from the circular camera display, the phone does look identical to last year’s Reno 11 phone. However, the company ensures that IP rating protection is provided with a biometric scanner on the 6.67-inch AMOLED screen. The vibrant colors and precise contrast control give this phone a decent viewing experience. Besides, you can watch content up to FHD+ resolution. Generally, Oppo screens are bright enough for daylight.

Thankfully, the company added a 120Hz refresh rate with touch response and navigation in the UI. At the same time, the built quality isn’t that boring, you are getting a metallic finish with the standard volume rocker and power button. As for the screen protection, you will obtain the Asahi Glass AGC DT-Star2 protection. Overall, the Oppo Reno 12F gives a superb experience.

Memory and Internal

Oppo phones are often lacking when it comes to hardware configuration, especially in mid-range phones. Here, you will find the Dimensity 6300 chipset. Typically, this chipset can support normal tasks if you want to enjoy gaming, content streaming, and other activities. Despite this, the octa-core processor can provide up to 2×2.4GHz cloaking speed to support almost all of the day-to-day tasks.

On the hardware, the visual aspect is properly handled through the Mali-G57 MC2 chipset. As for the software interface, Android 14 is based on the ColorOS 14 custom interface. Alongside this, the company also introduced their new Oppo AI in the user interface. With this, the users can tweak the overall software settings according to their design. It includes elements like AI summary, AI speaking, and more.

AI software is also integrated into the camera department, which allows users to capture precious memories without any hassle. As for the performance aspect, the performance does feel underwhelming, especially during CPU throttling tests. You can’t do much about the performance. Still, the Oppo Reno 12F is offered in 256G to 512GB UFS 2.2 internal storage with an 8GB to 12GB RAM configuration. You can choose anyone that meets your requirements.

Camera

At the first impression, the camera module remembers the Oppo Find N3 setup. This camera layout also introduces a circular ring light, which works as a flash. The company decided to call it as Cosmos Ring which gives a sporty look to the back panel. As for the camera setup, the phone delivers a 50MP primary, 8MP ultra-wide, and 2MP macro lens setup. On paper, it doesn’t look that disappointing and you can click decent photos with this configuration too.

The usual daylight and lowlight photos look good with crisp colors. Besides, it’s good to see that Oppo has finally improved the night mode. Not to forget, the AI studio features were the key highlights of the native camera app. Those AI-powered ones bring better filters, AI erases, and other cool features, which we recommend you explore in your free time. As for the video recording, the Oppo Reno 12F brings FHD resolution videos.

It’s acceptable since the smartphone makers introduced this phone as a budget-tier device in the market. However, you should look at this factor if you want to capture beautiful videos. Anyway, the front display equips a central punch hole 32MP selfie camera. With this setup, the camera results won’t be disappointing if you want to capture beautiful photos. However, the video recording might not be a strong point of this phone.

Battery and Others

The 5000 mAh battery performance is worth noting since you will obtain a screen time of 5+ hours in just a 56-minute refueling through a 45W wired charger. Alongside this, the device also supports reverse-wired charging. Typically, the device will need less than an hour to refill the battery with ease. You will obtain enough screen time for a couple of gaming and other activities too.

Now, let’s look at the other important sensors. The phone equips above-average Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS sensors with a combination of NFC support depending on the market. At the same time, the stereo speakers produce good sound with incredible crispness and treble control. Last but not least, the Oppo Reno 12F will priced at around $360 (Rs 29,990 in India) approx for the starting variant. Still, you will find various phones with similar or better specs.

Conclusion

The Oppo Reno 12F isn’t a bad phone in the mid-range segment. However, it simply can’t beat its predecessor Oppo Reno 11F because of incapable hardware configuration. We all know that a typical Oppo smartphone often lacks decent performance. Still, it’s good to see higher brightness nits on the display with an advanced refresh rate. Alongside this, the AI software integration is something unexpected.

Do we really have those AI updates? Probably not, a stable user experience would be a better choice instead. Anyway, the camera, display, and battery aspect didn’t give an underwhelming feeling. Overall, the Oppo Reno 12F could be a remarkable choice in the mid-range if you can overlook that shortcoming. Still, there are alternative options like Motorola Edge 50 Fusion would be a good deal compared to this phone. Nonetheless, we suggest you make a decision based on your needs.
