Oppo A3

Oppo F27 Smartphone Review – OPPO announced the new OPPO F27 smartphone in India in August 2024, and it went on sale later that month. Oppo’s F series of smartphones are usually available exclusively in India but it may launch globally under a different name. This is a modern smartphone designed for Gen-Z users, so it has many latest technologies, including 5G connectivity.

In terms of design, this phone looks a lot like the Honor phones, especially due to the rounded camera module on the rear side. It’s a flashy eye-catching design that OPPO hopes will impress modern users. Let’s begin with a detailed review of the Oppo F27 smartphone and find out if this smartphone is worth purchasing.

Oppo F27 Smartphone Review

Highlights

  1. The OPPO F27 smartphone features a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with support for 120Hz high refresh rate.
  2. The chipset inside the OPPO F27 is the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 5G SoC, which is capable of reaching clock speeds of up to 2×2.4 GHz.
  3. The OPPO F27 smartphone arrives with Android 14 out of the box with a ColorOS 14 user interface for more customization options.
  4. The OPPO F27 smartphone has a 50MP dual rear camera system, while the selfie camera has a 32MP sensor.
  5. The phone has a 5000mAh battery with 45W wired fast charging support.

Design and Display

The Oppo F27 smartphone features a great design and looks quite similar to Honor phones. The sides and the rear panel are flat, which makes it harder for the phone to slip out of hands. The body is made out of plastic entirely but its flashy design and the choice of colors make it look more premium. It is available in Emerald Green and Amber Orange colors.

The design of the smartphone is a key selling point. Also, the smartphone is also protected by IP64 dust and water splash resistance, so it should be fine in light rains. But don’t go taking a dip in the pool with this smartphone.

As for the display, the phone has a 6.67-inch AMOLED screen with support for 120Hz high refresh rate. This is an FHD+ AMOLED panel, so it has a fantastic contrast ratio and provides a fantastic viewing experience. This panel can also get as bright as 2100 nits under direct sunlight, so you wouldn’t have any issues using it outdoors.

Memory and Internal

The Oppo F27 features the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 5G chipset, which is capable of reaching clock speeds of up to 2×2.4 GHz. Running any apps or games won’t be an issue on this chipset, including Facebook, WhatsApp, Snapchat, and more, but don’t expect a super-fast app launch or anything like that. This chipset doesn’t have that kind of performance. It has just enough to run most daily used apps decently.

Also, since we are talking about performance, let’s not forget about gaming. Its Mali-G57 MC2 GPU will allow you access to games such as PUBGm, Summoners War, Black Desert Mobile, and even CODm at relatively smooth framerates. Also, the smartphone is 5G-ready and can easily reach gigabit down speeds and incredibly low latency during online gaming.

For memory and storage, the Oppo F27 is available with 8GB of RAM and 128GB/256GB of fast UFS 2.2 internal storage, which can be expanded later down the line with a microSDXC slot. The smartphone also comes with Android 14 out of the box with a ColorOS 14 user interface for more customization options.

Camera

OPPO outfitted the Oppo F27 with a 50MP dual rear camera setup. Its 50MP main camera manages to capture some good shots with a decent level of detail and accurate color tone. The camera performance is more than decent but we were expecting more, considering it’s an Oppo smartphone. The secondary camera has a 2MP sensor, which is practically useless.

The selfie camera at the front has a 32MP sensor, which is quite decent and manages to capture selfies with fine details and proper color tone. The textures of the skin of subjects look more than good enough. For video recording, the rear camera can shoot videos at a maximum resolution of 1080P@60FPS with gyro-EIS, while the selfie camera can only record at 1080P@30FPS.

Battery and Others

The Oppo F27 smartphone has a 5000 mAh battery that can provide 1 – 2 days’ worth of battery life with light usage that includes watching videos, instant messaging, Instagram, camera, and more. This great battery life is only possible due to the use of a high-capacity battery and an efficient processor. However, playing games all day will drain the battery faster.

The smartphone also supports 45W wired fast charging, which can fully charge the smartphone in around 1 hour and 10 minutes. Apart from that, the smartphone has support for Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.3, an under-display fingerprint sensor, NFC, and a USB Type-C connector for charging. The smartphone starts at $274 (Rs 22,900 in India) approx.

Conclusion

The Oppo F27 is the newest 5G smartphone from OPPO that was designed to impress and it has certainly achieved that with that design. The display is also fantastic and is bright enough for outdoor usage. The battery life and the charging speed are also quite good. On top of that, the smartphone has 5G connectivity and also has Water resistance.

However, that’s where the good ends. The app and gaming performance is not that great. Don’t get us wrong. The performance is decent but considering the price point the phone launched, it should have been better. Other phones in this price range over much better chipsets. Besides that, the camera performance is also not acceptable for this price. It has only a single camera on the back and the rest are gimmick.

The best alternative to this smartphone would be the Motorola Edge 50 Neo, which has much better specs all around for a higher price tag. It even has three proper cameras on the back, which are quite good. However, the final decision is up to you, so it is better to choose a smartphone based on your needs and requirements.
