Oppo A16

Oppo A16 Review, Pros and Cons – Oppo has launched another smartphone in the low-budget section. Coming from its successor, Oppo A15, this device is packed with some decent features. As the budget is low, it can be a satisfactory choice for anyone. Everything a smartphone needs to operate at decent performance, you get in the Oppo A16 phone. Whether it’s the screen, the camera, the processor, or the battery, all features are designed properly, but that doesn’t mean it’s the best. In the low-budget segment, there are many phones that make this specific segment more competitive.

Coming with 4G bandwidth, you will miss the faster 5G performance. This phone was released on July 17, 2021, although global availability is not yet clear, we can look forward to the end of the year. Without checking this review, it would not be wise to buy this phone or any phone. So let’s start with a detailed review of the Oppo A16 smartphone.

Oppo A16 Review

Highlights

  1. It displays a 6.52 inches IPS LCD screen with 720p resolution.
  2. Since it comes with Android 11 OS, there’s no way you can get distracted by the operation.
  3. Under the hood, there’s a MediaTek Helio G35 chipset but can find more advanced options in this budget.
  4. There is a 13 MP triple camera, while the selfie camera offers an 8 MP sensor.
  5. A 5000mAh battery is enough to last a whole day, but the market is full of superior options.

Design and Display

Comes with a metallic cover, the handset boasts a glossy feature. When holding the phone, you’ll notice a 3D body with sculpted edges that looks nice. There are three options available in the specific market: Pearl Blue, Space Silver, and Crystal Black colors. These standard colors match each person’s personality. Where the triple camera is set up in a rectangular shape on the back panel, you’ll get the fingerprint sensor on the sidebar. You will be specifically attracted to the Pearl Blue variant.

You’ll get a 6.52 inches screen properly designed with some other specs. Includes a 720p resolution which is pretty standard on many phones on this budget. Plus, an IPS LCD provides a good visual experience. There’s no standard refresh rate So, you may notice some motion blur in any video. It features 480 nits of brightness, which is easy to handle in direct sunlight conditions. However, the AI Eye-care unit proves to be a good complement for your eyes. One more thing to add is its 20:9 ratio.

Fortunately, the measurement and weight are well adjusted. Where the phone weighs just 190g, the sidebar is 8.4mm thick. At the front, there is a hole that goes unnoticed during operation. As far as the canvas or overall layout is concerned, it’s fine, but with that budget, the Realme Narzo 20 offers more attractive designs with more glaze.

Memory and Internal

As for built-in features, today’s most demanding operating system is Android 11 OS, although Android 12 has just been released. It’s not fully available, so you’ll still have the relatively best to date. No worries, do what you want with your phone. The presence of the ColorOS interface makes your phone more dominated by you. So whatever you do, like browsing webpages, chatting, playing games, or checking other apps, you’ll always notice that it works well.

The demand for games is increasing day by day, so its reflection on smartphones is properly visible. To play high-end games like Free Fire or Call of Duty, you need state-of-the-art built-in features, especially the chipset. But the Oppo A16 will be disappointing for you as there is only a 12nm MediaTek Helio G35 chipset. Therefore, you may notice delays or lags while playing. The most powerful feature of this model is the processor that handles a 2.3GHz maximum clock speed. On the other hand, the presence of the PowerVR GE8320 graphics unit makes the visual experience more interesting, but it’s not worth your money.

What is surprising are its different variants. So far, there are three variants made for various types of users. Users who only use the phone for chatting, browsing, or performing simple tasks can opt for the basic variant, 3GB RAM and 32GB storage. There are two more variants that provide 4GB of RAM / 64GB and 256GB of internal storage. Plus, you get more storage expansion via a dedicated microSD card slot.

Camera

With basic features in the camera section, the Oppo A16 smartphone doesn’t meet users’ demands. There is a 13 MP triple camera, where the main camera offers autofocus mode, the secondary cameras include 2MP macro and 2MP depth sensors. The rear camera is just an average addition to this phone. You’ll get the best ones with other phones with a similar budget. Because of the AI technology, you’ll be able to capture some perfect moments, but that won’t be satisfying compared to what you’re spending.

In fact, night photography can sometimes be frustrating because of the proper lighting, but the daylight situation is perfect for capturing photos. The main camera retains all the bold and beautiful colors. Dazzling Mode provides vibrancy and sparkle in photos. On the other hand, an 8 MP selfie camera is not enough to capture valuable moments. This feature is getting old day by day, although you can capture some everyday moments with groups or alone. This is not a powerful feature of the camera.

So you can complain about this feature, while the Realme Narzo 20 or Motorola G10 Power offer more options in the camera section as well as in other sections. Now, coming to video, you’ll be surprised when shooting videos in 1080p, but since there’s no stabilization feature, you’ll have to face problems while shooting a video. As for recommendations, you should look for alternatives.

Battery and Others

A massive Li-Po 5000 mAh battery lets you stream YouTube for 21.02 hours and because of the power-saving mode, you will have more than 2 days of battery life. Optimized Night Charged AI keeps you cool once it’s fully charged. According to the information, there is no fast charger, so you should be satisfied with the normal one. As for the low-budget segment, you get the Oppo A16 smartphone for $140 (10,499 INR).

Conclusion

Many alternatives in this segment make it difficult to outdo each other if the device lacks advanced features, the same applies to the Oppo A16 smartphone as well. The budget may be low, but there’s no advanced feature that beats other phones. If you take the camera or battery for comparison, you’ll find that the Oppo A16 phone isn’t worth your money. You may find some updates compared to its predecessor, but the availability of phones with more advanced features is out there.

If you can afford a little more budget, you’ll definitely choose the Samsung Galaxy F22 smartphone with a 6000mAh battery, 48 MP camera, and even more. This phone is really worth your money as an alternative with a lot of satisfaction features. If you are addicted to games, the Galaxy F22 phones can be a great choice as well.
