OnePlus Ace 5 Pro

OnePlus Ace 5 and 5 Pro Smartphones Review – The OnePlus Ace 5 and 5 Pro were announced in December 2024 in China and started shipping the same day. Both smartphones are only available in China at the moment but will soon go on sale globally. However, they could be known under a different name globally, probably under the Nord series. They are flagship smartphones, so they come with top-level specs inside, including the fastest 5G connectivity.

The two phones also feature a new design, which is a huge departure from their predecessors’ design. OnePlus brought significant updates with the OnePlus Ace 5 and 5 Pro and believes the new features would be enough to attract more users. Let’s begin with a detailed review of both the OnePlus Ace 5 and 5 Pro and see if these smartphones are worth purchasing.

OnePlus Ace 5 and 5 Pro Smartphones Review

Highlights

  1. Both the OnePlus Ace 5 and 5 Pro have the same 6.78-inches LTPO AMOLED display with a 120Hz high refresh rate.
  2. The OnePlus Ace 5 features the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 5G chipset, while the OnePlus Ace 5 Pro is equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Elite 5G flagship chipset.
  3. Both smartphones come with the latest Android 15 out of the box with a ColorOS 15 user interface for better customization support.
  4. The OnePlus Ace 5 and 5 Pro feature the same 50MP triple rear camera system with a 16MP selfie camera.
  5. The OnePlus Ace 5 has a 6415mAh battery with 80W wired fast charging, while the OnePlus Ace 5 Pro has a 6100mAh battery with 100W wired fast charging.

Design and Display

The OnePlus Ace 5 and 5 Pro feature the same design and the only difference between them is in the choice of colors. The two phones feature a flat side frame instead of a chamfered design, which leads to a better grip. Even the rear and the front panels are completely flat. The side-frame is made of Aluminum, while the rear panel is made of glass, which delivers a sophisticated user experience.

The OnePlus Ace 5 comes in Gray, White, and Green colors, while the OnePlus Ace 5 Pro is available in Gray, White, and Purple. When it comes to the display, both phones have the same 6.78-inch LTPO AMOLED display with a 120Hz high refresh rate. This panel comes with support for HDR10+, Dolby Vision, and up to 1 billion colors, which provides a significantly better visual experience.

Also, the display panels of both phones are capable of reaching a peak brightness of up to 4500 nits under direct sunlight, which should deliver a significantly better viewing experience when using the phones outdoors. The two phones also feature the IP65 certification, which makes them protected against dust and water splashes. The displays of both phones are protected by Crystal Shield Glass, which may not be as good as Corning’s Gorilla Glass, but they will protect against most scratches just fine.

Memory and Internal

The OnePlus Ace 5 features the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 5G chipset, which is capable of reaching clock speeds of up to 1×3.3 GHz. On the other hand, the OnePlus Ace 5 Pro is equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Elite 5G flagship chipset that can deliver a clock speed of up to 2×4.32 GHz. The latter chipset is much more powerful than the former, but they are both so powerful that you will hardly notice any difference between them in daily day-to-day tasks.

Games such as PUBGm, CODm, and Genshin Impact can be played at the highest graphical fidelity with high framerates. The two Snapdragon chipsets are quite powerful and they rarely heat up, even when playing online multiplayer games for a while. The OnePlus Ace 5 and 5 Pro have 5G connectivity, which will allow you to download things at gigabit-level speeds and play games at low latency.

As for RAM and storage, both the OnePlus Ace 5 and 5 Pro can be purchased in 12GB+256GB, 16GB+256GB, 12GB+512GB, 16GB+512GB, and 16GB+1TB of RAM and internal storage. When it comes to the software side of things, the two phones are running on the latest Android 15 with a ColorOS 15 user interface for more customization and better user experience. Having the latest Android 15 out-of-the-box is really a blessing.

Camera

Both the OnePlus Ace 5 and 5 Pro feature the same 50MP triple rear camera system. The 50MP primary camera is capable of taking some fantastic pictures with far better detail levels than other phones in the same price range. The primary camera takes pictures with accurate color tones, high dynamic range, and great white balance.

The same cannot be said for the second camera, which has an 8MP ultra-wide sensor. This camera can take pictures with a 112° wide field of view but the detail level and color tone are not on the same level as the main camera. The third camera with a 2MP sensor is not useful in any way. Even at night, the pictures come out great with less noise, thanks to the built-in night mode.

At the front, the two phones have the same 16MP selfie camera, which can take some fantastic selfies with high detail levels and natural skin tones. As for video recording, both the OnePlus Ace 5 and 5 Pro can record videos at up to 4K@60FPS from the rear camera but the selfie camera is limited to 1080p@30FPS. The rear cameras have both OIS and gyro-EIS, which results in some extremely stable footage when recording videos. The selfie camera only has gyro-EIS, so the video footage is stable but not as good as the rear cameras.

Battery and Others

The OnePlus Ace 5 has a 6415mAh battery, while the OnePlus Ace 5 Pro has a 6100mAh battery. Even though there’s a difference in battery capacity, they are both capable of providing 1 – 3 days’ worth of battery life with light to medium usage. However, if you play a lot of video games, then neither smartphone will provide that level of battery life. In fact, the batteries may not even last a full day. That’s because games consume a lot of power, making it difficult to get a good battery life.

However, both smartphones support wired fast charging, so there’s nothing to worry about. The OnePlus Ace 5 supports 80W fast charging, which can fully charge the phone in under 40 minutes. On the other hand, the OnePlus Ace 5 Pro has a 100W fast charger, which can fully charge its battery in around 30 minutes.

Apart from that, both smartphones have Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, an under-display fingerprint scanner, NFC, Infrared sensor, GPS, stereo speakers, and a USB Type-C port for charging. The OnePlus Ace 5 is available for a starting price tag of $316 (Rs 26,990 in India) approx, while the OnePlus Ace 5 Pro is available starting at $468 (Rs 39,990 in India) approx.

Conclusion

OnePlus Ace 5 and 5 Pro are two excellent flagship-like phones. They deliver everything a flagship phone should and then some more. These two phones have the brightness display seen on a mobile phone. This level of excellence is also true for the build quality, chipset, camera, battery, and charging speed. In fact, the camera performance is exceptional and punches above its price class.

Both smartphones are easily recommendable, especially considering the price they launched at. The only decent alternative to these two phones would be the Xiaomi Redmi K80 series, which offers similar specs. Also, the difference between the OnePlus Ace 5 and the OnePlus Ace 5 Pro is that the latter has a faster chipset and charging speeds but the rest of things are the same. However, the final decision is up to you, so it is better to choose a smartphone based on your requirements and needs.
