Motorola Edge 50 Fusion

Motorola Moto G85 Smartphone Review – Motorola phones provide solid deals across the board with their newly developed devices. Not long ago, we reviewed the Moto Razr 50 series phones, which looked pretty astounding at first impression, while the Moto G50 Fusion was also quite appealing. Now, we are reviewing the Motorola Moto G85 device, which brings upgraded features and overall specs. This new G-series phone is given tough competition in the mid-range segment.

The company has launched different phones with exciting price points from foldable to mid-range. It looks like they are expanding their presence this year. But on the other hand, the Moto G85 would redefine the way you use the phone in your daily usage. Moreover, the phone can easily be associated with more premium devices since offers an aesthetic design and a beautiful build. That said, let’s find the primary highlights of the Motorola Moto G85 smartphone:

Motorola Moto G85 Smartphone Review

Highlights

  1. The Moto G85 arrives with a 6.67 inches P-OLED display with 120Hz refresh rate and higher brightness nits support.
  2. As for the software interface, the Android 14 arrives with two major updates and a couple of years of security patches.
  3. Regarding the performance department, you can rely on the Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 chipset.
  4. A decent 50MP dual camera with a 32MP selfie camera will appear on this phone.
  5. Under the hood, the phone delivers a 5000 mAh battery with 30W wired charging support.

Design and Display

It’s uncommon to find a curved display on a budget-friendly phone like Motorola Moto G85. You won’t notice bezels around the corners nor on top or the chin. Besides, the company introduces an extremely lightweight vegan leather build, which is available in Olive Green, Cobalt Blue, and Magenta. Whereas, the Ubran Grey color variant appears with a standard glass body built.

Though, there’s no denying that the design aspect is a subjective thing. But, the Moto G85 looks pretty awesome with a premium fabric-like design, which was exclusive to the Edge series till last year. Now, finding a beautiful design with a comfortable holding experience has become possible. As far as the weight is concerned, the phone measures around 171-173 grams despite offering a bigger battery configuration.

The iconic camera module gives a unique look with a curved top. The volume rockers are present on the right-hand side with the power button, while the SIM port is available at the bottom. As for the protection, the 6.67-inch P-OLED display brings Corning glass 5 protection. The brightness level reaches up to 1600 nits, while the 120Hz refresh rate ensures a smooth frame rate experience. Lastly, the in-display biometric scanner is accurate and hassle-freely unlocks your device.

Memory and Internal

As for the performance department, the Motorola Moto G85 arrives with the Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 chipset. But it’s a rebranded version of the Snapdragon 695 chip without much difference in processing speed. Still, the overall performance isn’t that bad since the device can reach up to 900K AnTuTu score with ease, which is almost 100K from the previous chipset model.

Through this, the phone seamlessly excels in performance, while the 2×2.3 GHz cloaking speed is sufficient for normal usage. However, you won’t receive a fleshed-out gaming experience with this phone. Alongside this, the device brings the latest Android 14 skin with two years of major updates and four years of security patches. Besides this, the device can be purchased in either 8GB or 12GB RAM, which is accompanied by 128GB to 256GB storage.

With onboarded storage and RAM, the users won’t face trouble. As far as real-world performance is concerned, the device can support lag-free gaming. We played games like BGMI, Call of Duty, Genshin Impact, and more games, which resulted in slight overheating during our usage. Though, the phone arrives with fewer pre-installed apps. Still, the software interface can provide a cleaner UI experience with a bunch of customization options.

Camera

On the surface, the Motorola Moto G85 houses a dual camera setup, including the 50MP primary (OIS) and 8MP secondary ultra-wide lens as a whole. In the last few years, the Motorola phone’s image quality has evolved, which brings appealing photos with vibrant colors and precise contrast colors. The phone delivers slightly overprocessed photos, which might not be the best choice for social media.

Hopefully, the primary lens brings optical image stabilization that captures accurate details, while the ultra-wide lens is also capable of providing macro photography. In the daylight photos, the colors are saturated and look slightly dull. Apart from the portrait images aren’t that bad since you will notice crisp details on the subject. Although, the brightness level is slightly lower around the edge. The 32MP selfie camera excludes producing accurate saturation.

You can capture natural beauty with this phone, but the skin tones aren’t that accurate. Although, they aren’t overprocessed. The lowlight photos in affordable smartphones are often overlooked. But the dedicated night mode will enhance the colors in the lowlight settings with sharper details and visibly less noise. The device offers a feature-rich camera setup with multiple camera modes, which allows users to capture their memories precisely. But, the video recording can only go up to 1080p resolution, which is one of the core downsides of this phone.

Battery and Others

Under the hood, the Motorola Moto G85 smartphone arrives with a 5000 mAh battery configuration, which is mediocre battery. In general, the device can support a long-lasting battery, while the phone can provide up to 5+ hours of screen time on moderate usage. As for content consumption, you can watch 4K content for more than 8 hours. The Indian variant will offer a 33W wired charger inside the box, whereas the international variant offers a 30W wired charging support.

With the wired charging support, the phone can be refueled within an hour from 0 to 100%. Indeed, the phone didn’t lag when it came to the charging speed. Last but not least, the Motorola Moto G85 is positioned in the mid-range segment with a starting price point of $270 (Rs 22,690 in India) approx. You can purchase a higher version according to your storage and RAM requirements.

Conclusion

Lastly, the Motorola G85 can be considered a solid choice if you prefer design, display, and beautiful camera results. Besides this, the content consumption is also decent with FHD+ resolution. Although, the phone will struggle to support HDR content in the streaming app. Furthermore, the raw performance doesn’t lack to some of the competitors.

However, the device might be a good choice for gamers due to the average GPU and visuals. Still, it’s far better than most of the mid-range phones. The promise of blending sleek features and affordability makes this device a great deal. But on the other hand, if you want higher performance, then the Nothing CMF Phone 1 would be a stunning choice. Anyway, choose your smartphone according to your desire!
