Its flagship smartphone is equipped with some of the most high-end components inside, including the 5G connectivity. Motorola believes this could be the ultimate flagship smartphone that beats out the other flagship smartphones. So, let’s begin with a detailed review of the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra smartphone and find out if this smartphone is worth purchasing.

Motorola Edge 50 Ultra Smartphone Review

  5. The phone has a 4500mAh battery with 125W wired fast charging and 50W wireless fast charging support.

Design and Display

The Motorola Edge 50 Ultra features the Motorola’s new 2024 design language. It is designed with premium materials like wood and faux leather. The rear panel with Nordic Wood color is made of real wood. Motorola bonded a couple of layers of wood fibers. On top of that, they used a special coating to protect the wood from water and skin oil.

It will keep the back looking new for a long time. The other two rear panel colors are Peach Fuzz and Forest Grey and they are made of faux leather, which is soft to the touch and looks premium. However, designs are subjective, and not everyone will feel the same way. The side frame is curved and is made of aluminum, which gives the smartphone its rigidity.

On the front, you get the 6.7-inch P-OLED display with support for up to 144Hz high refresh rate. This display comes with a 1.5K resolution and is capable of featuring up to 1 billion colors to provide the best quality ever. The display brightness can reach as high as 2500 nits under sunlight, so there won’t be any issue when using the phone outdoors. This display is also protected by the Corning Gorilla Gass Victus. The entire smartphone is protected with an IP68 rating for protection against dust and water.

Memory and Internal

Motorola equipped the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra with the newly released Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 5G chipset. This chipset is capable of reaching a clock speed of 1×3.0 GHz. This is a cut-down variant of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. Its clock speeds are a bit lower, so its CPU performance is a bit slower than the flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

It’s still one of the most powerful Android chipsets and its CPU performance level is somewhere between the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. But the same cannot be said about the GPU performance as it’s much lower than those two chipsets. However, it will still run games, such as PUBGm, Summoners War, CODm, and Genshin Impact at high graphical settings.

The smartphone also supports 5G connectivity for gigabit speeds and low-latency gaming. It also comes with Android 14 out of the box along with a clean and stock-like user experience. As for memory and storage, the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra is available for purchase with up to 12GB to 16GB of RAM and 512GB/1TB of fast UFS 4.0 internal storage.

Camera

The Motorola Edge 50 Ultra provides the ultimate flagship experience and features a 50MP triple rear camera setup. The primary rear camera consists of a 50MP sensor, which is optimized to take more photos and capture much brighter shots with a high dynamic range, higher detail levels, and saturated colors. However, the detail levels are not quite comparable to other flagship smartphones in the same price range.

The phone supports night mode as well and you can see a similar performance here. The camera captures more light than usual, thanks to OIS, slow shutter speed, and advanced post-processing, which allows for some stellar night photography. The second camera in this smartphone is a 50MP ultra-wide camera and is similarly capable. It can capture pictures with a wide field of view and high detail levels, but there’s a little shift in colors compared to the main camera. The 64MP periscope telephoto camera has an extremely good sensor and it manages to provide some of the most impressive zoomed pictures at 3x Zoom levels.

On the front, the smartphone has a 50MP selfie sensor and it can capture some great selfies with natural color and skin tone. When it comes to video recording, both the rear and selfie cameras can shoot videos at 4K@60FPS. The videos from the rear camera are stabilized with OIS and gyro-EIS, so the footage will be stable.

Battery and Others

The Motorola Edge 50 Ultra has a decent-capacity 4500mAh battery that can provide at least 1 – 2 days of battery life. This was possible with light to medium usage that includes using the camera, music, texting, and a bit of social media. But if you play a lot of games, the battery will drain a lot faster and the phone won’t last a full day.

When it comes to charging, the phone has support for a 125W wired super-fast charger that can fully charge the smartphone in just 26 minutes. The phone also supports 50W wireless charging capability, which should fully charge the smartphone around the 1 hour and 10-minute mark. Apart from that, the smartphone has support for tri-band Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, an under-display fingerprint sensor, stereo speakers, NFC, and a USB Type-C connector for charging. The smartphone will start at $641 (Rs 53,899 in India) approx.

Conclusion

The Motorola Edge 50 Ultra is designed to provide a flagship experience for the price you pay. Everything about the device seems premium, whether that’s the design, display, performance, camera, or battery. The display, for example, has extremely low bezels and features a panel that has some of the most advanced technologies. The design is also quite eye-catching and is made of premium materials, so it will feel great in hand.

The phone also excels in battery, charging, and even 5G. The performance and camera are also fantastic but other smartphones are better in these areas. This would have been okay if the smartphone was priced adequately, which it is not. It is priced around the Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus and at this price, the Samsung phone is much better in both camera and performance.

However, the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra comes with near stock Android experience that you won’t find in other smartphones. So, if you are a fan of the stock Android, it’s a great smartphone. But if you need the best gaming capabilities, get the Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus, which will provide much better gaming and camera performance at around the approx same price tag. However, the final decision is up to you, so it is better to choose a smartphone based on your needs and requirements.
