Motorola Edge 50 Fusion

Motorola Edge 50 Fusion Smartphone Review – The Motorola Edge 50 Fusion was announced in April 2024 and later went on sale the next month. Even though the new Motorola Edge 50 Fusion is cheaper, it still has some premium features, including 5G connectivity. Motorola has gotten serious in the budget segment in the last couple of months and plans to take more market share with this smartphone. So, let’s begin with a detailed review of the Motorola Edge 50 Fusion smartphone and see if this smartphone is worth purchasing.

Motorola Edge 50 Fusion Smartphone Review

Highlights

  1. The Motorola Edge 50 Fusion has a 6.7-inch P-OLED display with 144Hz high refresh rate support.
  2. The SoC inside the smartphone is the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 5G chipset that is capable of reaching clock speeds of 4×2.40 GHz.
  3. The smartphone comes with Android 14 pre-installed.
  4. The smartphone has a 50MP dual rear-camera system while the selfie camera has a 32MP sensor.
  5. The smartphone is powered by a 5000 mAh battery with 68W wired fast charging support.

Design and Display

The Motorola Edge 50 Fusion features a premium design with a combination of curved display, curved sides, and the use of premium materials such as leather. However, the side and mid-frame are plastic. But due to the use of leather, the phone feels premium in the hand. The phone is available in Forest Blue, Marshmallow Blue, and Hot Pink color options. The phone is also protected with an IP68 rating for protection against dust and water.

As for the display, it is a curved 6.7-inches P-OLED display with 144Hz high refresh rate support. However, in Latin American countries, the refresh rate maxes out at 120Hz. The display is bezel-less and due to the curved nature of the display, it looks absolutely gorgeous. The display is color-accurate and the colors look flawless.

The display can get plenty bright at over 1600 nits under direct sunlight, so you will get the same display experience outdoors as you do indoors. The display is protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass 5, so it should be fine against light scratches.

Memory and Internal

Motorola has outfitted the Motorola Edge 50 Fusion with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 5G, which is capable of reaching clock speeds of 2×2.4 GHz. This is a great chipset in the mid-range segment and is capable of running all your social media apps, games, and more without any issues. This chipset has tremendous potential and you will see that when running games, thanks to the Adreno 710 GPU.

It’s not the best GPU in the world but it can run games like Genshin Impact, Black Desert Mobile, PUBG Mobile, Summoners War, and CODm with smooth framerates. The Motorola Edge 50 Fusion is running on Android 14 out of the box with Motorola’s new Hello UX user interface for cleaner and better user experience.

For RAM and storage, the smartphone can be purchased with up to 8GB/12GB of RAM and 128GB to 512GB of storage. Since there’s no support for microSDXC card support, it’s best to purchase a higher-capacity storage option beforehand. The chipset also supports 5G connectivity, so enjoy gigabit-level speeds and gaming with low latency.

Camera

The Motorola Edge 50 Fusion has a 50MP dual rear-camera system. The primary camera consists of a 50MP sensor with OIS and pictures from this camera have great detail levels that exceed our expectations. The pictures have accurate colors, high dynamic range, and proper white balance. The secondary 13MP ultra-wide camera also has quite a capable sensor and is capable of capturing pictures with a wide field of view, high detail levels, and natural colors.

On the front, you get a 32MP selfie camera, which can take some incredibly detailed selfies. The selfies have natural colors and capture the subject’s facial features correctly. When it comes to video recording, the rear cameras can shoot up to 4K@30FPS, and the footage is stabilized with both OIS and gyro-EIS. The selfie camera also shoots 4K videos without any video stabilization.

Battery and Others

The Motorola Edge 50 Fusion has a 5000mA high-capacity battery, which can provide 1 – 2 days easily with light to moderate usage. But with heavier usage or gaming, the battery will drain faster since gaming pushes the chipset harder, which drains the battery quickly. This is good battery life considering all the high-end components inside.

When it comes to charging, the smartphone has support for high-speed charging capabilities. It supports the 68W wired fast charger, which can charge the smartphone to 50% in 15 minutes. However, there’s support for wireless charging is missing. Apart from that, the phone also has Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.2, a fingerprint scanner, NFC, GPS, stereo speakers, and USB Type-C for charging. The Motorola Edge 50 Fusion starts at $550 (Rs 25,900 in India) approx.

Conclusion

The Motorola Edge 50 Fusion is designed to be a cheaper alternative to the more premium [[Motorola Edge 50 Ultra]] and Motorola managed to achieve that more or less. The display of the smartphone has extremely less bezels with uniform bezels on the top and chin. The display is also equally premium and is also protected by Gorilla Glass.

The camera and battery performance are also quite impressive. On top of all these, the smartphone is protected from dust and water. All these things make it an excellent phone for the price it asks for. However, there’s a con as well and it has to do with the chipset. The performance of the chipset is decent but could have been better, especially in gaming performance.

Don’t get us wrong. The gaming performance is good, but other smartphones in the same price range offer a better chipset, which provides better performance. This smartphone is for people who want a smartphone with all the specs and features needed to provide a premium experience. But if you want a smartphone with an even better performance, then you should go for the Samsung Galaxy C55. That smartphone provides a much better chipset, which delivers higher gaming performance for a lower price tag. However, the final decision is up to you, so it is better to choose a smartphone based on your requirements and needs.
