Meizu 21 Pro

Meizu 21 Pro Smartphone Review – The Meizu 21 Pro is the latest flagship smartphone from Meizu. It was announced in February 2024 and then went on sale in March 2024. The Meizu 21 Pro is designed with premium features that will give other flagship smartphones tough competition. Like Meizu’s other smartphones, the Meizu 21 Pro will only be available in China. There will be no official launch for this smartphone in the global market.

As it is a proper flagship smartphone, it comes with all the latest technologies in the smartphone, including 5G connectivity. In terms of design, the smartphone doesn’t look too different from its predecessor, the Meizu 20 Pro. But the Meizu believes the new smartphone brings improvements in other areas to make it a great new smartphone. Let’s begin with a detailed review of the Meizu 21 Pro smartphone and find out if this smartphone is worth purchasing.

  4. The Meizu 21 Pro smartphone has a 50MP triple rear camera system, while the selfie camera has a 32MP sensor.
  5. The phone has a 5050 mAh battery with 80W wired fast charging support and 50W wireless fast charging support.

Design and Display

The Meizu 21 Pro doesn’t look any different from the Meizu 20 Pro. You may even call it a clone with a fresh coat of paint and you wouldn’t be wrong. It has a flat boxy design with all the camera lenses standing vertically on the left side of the rear panel. Thanks to the flat sides, the grip of the smartphone is solid and tends not to slip out easily.

In terms of looks, the smartphone also looks similar to the Sony Xperia smartphones. It has an elegant design that is honestly so good. The smartphone is also made from premium materials and features IP68 dust and water protection. Even the display is also protected by Meizu’s Titan Glass 2.0. The display features a 6.79-inch LTPO AMOLED display with support for a 120Hz high refresh rate.

This display has a 1.5K resolution with 1 billion colors support, which will certainly enhance user experience. The panel also features HDR10+, which will certainly enhance any HDR content played on the smartphone. The display can get as bright as 1250 nits at peak brightness levels under direct sunlight.

Memory and Internal

Meizu equipped the Meizu 21 Pro with the latest and Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 5G chipset. This chipset is capable of delivering clock speeds of up to 1×3.3 GHz, making it the most powerful Android chipset as of yet. It has all the raw performance needed to run all your social media apps and games. Everything runs shift and the animations are butter smooth. This performance is also carried over to the gaming side of things.

The Adreno 750 GPU will take care of all your gaming needs. Playing games such as PUBGm, Summoners War, CODm, and Genshin Impact at their highest settings won’t be a problem. The Meizu 21 Pro runs on Android with a Flyme user interface for more customization options. The Meizu 21 Pro also supports 5G connectivity for gigabit speeds.

For memory and storage the Meizu 21 Pro is available for purchase with up to 12GB/16GB of RAM and 256 GB/1 TB of ultra-fast UFS 4.0 internal storage.

Camera

The Meizu 21 Pro features a 50MP triple-camera setup. The primary camera consists of a 50MP sensor and pictures from this camera have great details and high dynamic range. The details in the shadows are also preserved carefully without blowing up the highlights in the background. Even the color range is also quite great and looks quite natural.

It also has a 10MP periscopic telephoto lens for the second camera and it takes pictures at 3x zoom levels. The picture coming out of this sensor is also quite good and has adequate detail levels. The third camera is the 13MP ultra-wide camera and it manages to capture the details perfectly with great color accuracy. There’s also no color shift between any of the three cameras.

There’s portrait mode as well, and pictures taken with this mode are also quite good with near-perfect background blur. On the front, the Meizu 21 Pro has a 32MP selfie camera. The selfies from this camera are extremely good with natural color tones. The fine details on the face are properly preserved. When it comes to video recording, the rear cameras can shoot videos at up to 8K@30FPS. The main rear camera also has support for gyro-EIS, which makes any footage extremely stable when recording videos.

Battery and Others

The Meizu 21 Pro has a Li-Po 5050 mAh high-capacity battery, so it can last 1 – 2 days easily. This is with a light to medium usage that includes a bit of camera, social media, watching videos, and so on. But if you play a lot of games, then the battery will drain quickly and require you to charge the smartphone by the end of the day.

But this shouldn’t worry you as the smartphone supports 80W wired fast charging capabilities along with 50W wireless and 10W reverse charging support. Apart from that, the smartphone has support for tri-band Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, an ultrasonic under-display fingerprint sensor, NFC, infrared sensor, stereo speakers, and a USB Type-C connector for charging. The smartphone will start at $700 (Rs 57,999 in India) approx.

Conclusion

The Meizu 21 Pro is a great smartphone on its own and it has a great display, design, chipset, camera, and battery performance that can go toe to toe with other flagship phones. But compared to its previous iteration, the Meizu 20 Pro, it brings very few improvements. The design is almost the same. The display is now protected by Meizu’s Titan glass, but other than that almost all the specs are the same. However, the display brightness is a lot lower than the Meizu 20 Pro.

The same goes for the camera as well. As we often say specs and megapixel count are not much and actual optimizations matter more. So, even though the Meizu 21 Pro has fewer megapixels, it is equally good or sometimes even better, especially in low-light situations. But it’s still a specs regression nonetheless.

If you are looking for an alternative option you can check the Vivo iQOO 12 Pro smartphone which brings slight improvements over it. However, the final decision is up to you, so it is better to choose a smartphone based on your needs and requirements.
