Huawei P50E

Huawei P50E Smartphone Review – As the latest addition to its P-series, Chinese tech giant Huawei has launched the P50E in its home country. The smartphone was released on 24 March 2022, and the design is very similar to the Huawei P50 (which was launched in July last year), alongside its pro version. Although, there is no denying that both phones look pretty interesting on their first appearance.

Huawei P50E is a higher-range phone but does not support 5G connectivity. But it offers the same flagship design layout and grants some impeccable features. However, it is currently not available for purchase in the global market. So, to check whether it is a worthy product or not, let’s start the detailed review of the Huawei P50E smartphone.

Huawei P50E Smartphone Review

Highlights

  1. The Huawei P50E smartphone equips a 6.5 inches OLED screen with a 90Hz refresh rate.
  2. The performance of the device is backed by a 6nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G 4G chipset.
  3. The smartphone runs on Huawei’s own operating system, HarmonyOS 2.0.
  4. For the camera, the Triple rear camera module consists of a 50 MP primary lens, while the front carries a 13 MP lens for selfies.
  5. As far as the battery is concerned, it gets a Li-Po 4100 mAh battery accompanied by a 66W Fast charging support.

Design and Display

As mentioned above, Huawei P50E looks very similar to the Huawei P50 and Huawei P50 Pro, having an identical huge dual-ring camera design carrying multiple lenses. The rear surface is shiny but not slippery, whereas the flat front comes with a center punch-hole camera. The overall design layout might not stand out that much, but the in-hand feel of the P50E is pretty premium and superb as its counterparts 4G mid-rangers.

The handset weighs 181 grams, and the in-hand feel is comfy and pleasing. Moreover, the device receives an IP68 rating that makes it dust and water-resistant, however, it does not get any sort of glass protection. Besides, users can choose between Galaxy Blue, Cocoa Tea Gold, Snow White, and Obsidian Black color. You can choose anything that fits your taste and choice.

Coming to the display, the 6.5 inches flat OLED screen delivers a pleasing multimedia experience as it gets access to 1B colors. Yet, the 90 Hz refresh rate on a smartphone in this segment is a big disappointment. If not 144 Hz, the company could have at least provided a 120Hz refresh rate to the device. Anyway, the colors and saturation of the display are something worth noting about this phone.

Memory and Internal

The most important part, the HUAWEI P50E will be powered by the Snapdragon 778G processor. The 5G version of the chip was fairly popular in mid-range devices, but P50E will be using its 4G version. Well, the absence of 5G is a letdown in itself, also the processor is not a flagship level. Thus, the performance is a bit underwhelming. But still, you can play regular games and do your daily task without any hassle.

Under the hood, users attain two variants with 8GB RAM accompanied by 128GB and 256GB of internal storage. Additionally, the shared SIM slot can be used for memory cards up to 256GB. With this setup, you won’t face any issues during your usage as the phone renders apt storage and RAM configuration for the interested buyers.

As for the software, There’s no Android operating system here, as the Huawei P50E runs on HarmonyOS 2.0. The operating system is light and versatile but does not have access to Google apps or the third-party apps that rely on Google Mobile Services. It might prove to be a concern for some of the users. But at the same time, it’s a whole new experience.

Camera

On the other hand, the optics section of the Huawei P50E is upright. It retains the triple rear camera module that includes a 50MP primary camera with Optical Image Stabilization, a 13MP ultra-wide-angle, and a 12MP periscope telephoto camera with OIS and 5x Optical Zoom. Apart from the specs, the real-time results are pretty decent.

In addition, other camera features like Leica optics, dual-LED flash, panorama, and HDR are available. All three lenses serve the purpose well and bring out great picture quality. Apart from this, the 13 MP 100° (ultrawide) front camera delivers images with impressive light input, enough details, and an adequate dynamic range.

For the videos, the primary camera can record 4K and 1080p, which become a great deal as it also supports optical image stabilization software support. As for the Selfie camera, you can record 4K, 1080p@30/60fps in a pretty hassle-free manner. Long story short, the Huawei P50E is all about photos and video recording.

Battery and Others

The Huawei device is furnished with a Li-Po 4100 mAh non-removable battery, with support for 66W fast charging. Although the battery is efficient enough to last a day-long, still the battery could have been bigger. Except for this, you don’t even get the charger in the box, which is a miss.

The phone is fitted with stereo speakers for audio, which provides satisfactory results. Other than this, the device owns all the necessary comms & sensors, including an in-display fingerprint scanner. now, the most crucial segment, the Huawei P50E is priced at $630 (Rs. 47,990 in India) approx.

Conclusion

So in the conclusion, it will be correct to say that the Huawei P50E smartphone is over-priced as compared to the available specs and features. As this one is a 4G mobile phone, not having a fast refresh rate, strongest battery, or processing power. The only section that receives a thumbs up is the camera.

However, while buying a mobile phone, you still need to check your own needs and the differences between the various mobile phones to make the most reasonable choice. So, the users can decide according to their requirements. The handsets will be available for purchase only in China. Thus, if you are not going for Huawei P50E you must check out alternative options such as the Xiaomi Mi 12 Pro which will be more appropriate as per the price and specs.
