Huawei Nova Flip Smartphone Review – Huawei Nova Flip was launched in August 2024 in China. Huawei phones have been banned from the international market but since this phone was launched as a part of Nova sub-branding, there’s a chance this foldable phone could be released globally. After all, Huawei did launch the Nova 12 series globally earlier this year, so we are hoping this phone would launch internationally as well. However, the company hasn’t mentioned anything officially.
In terms of design, the Huawei Nova Flip looks similar to the Xiaomi Mix Flip, which also launched in a similar timeframe. Unlike the Xiaomi foldable phone, the Huawei Nova Flip is designed for a budget price tag, yet it has support for 5G connectivity, among other features. Let’s begin with a detailed review of the Huawei Nova Flip smartphone to see what else it offers and if this smartphone is worth purchasing.

Design and Display
The Huawei Nova Flip looks a lot like the Xiaomi Mix Flip foldable phone but with a smaller cover display. Even though this phone is designed with a relatively budget price tag, it still has a premium build quality. The side frame is made of Stainless Steel while the rear panel is made of glass. In terms of design, the foldable phone has a flat body with rounded corners. Overall, it’s a fantastic phone in terms of both design and build quality.
The foldable hinge is also well constructed and the folding mechanism is smooth, which will certainly enhance the experience of using the Huawei Nova Flip daily. This flip phone also weighs under 200 grams, which is significantly lighter. Also, there are two displays on the smartphone, the main and the cover display.
The main display has a 6.94-inch Foldable LTPO OLED screen with 120Hz high refresh rate support. On the other hand, the cover display consists of a 2.14-inch LTPO OLED panel and a 120Hz refresh rate. This cover screen can display vital information, such as time, missed calls, messages, and other notifications. Both displays are decently color-accurate, and watching content on the screen will be a pleasure. The two screens can also get decently bright under direct sunlight. The Huawei Nova Flip is available for purchase in Green, Pink, White, and Black colors.
Memory and Internal
The Huawei Nova Flip features an octa-core 5G chipset, which should have enough raw performance to run all modern apps and games smoothly. It should also be able to play most games decently, including Summoners War, PUBG Mobile, and CODm at high graphical fidelity.
When it comes to RAM, it is unknown how much RAM the smartphone has but as for storage, it will be available for purchase with up to 256GB to 1TB of storage. As for the software, the Huawei Nova Flip is running on HarmonyOS 4.2, which is Huawei’s take on Android. However, the software could be different in the global model. This flip phone also supports 5G connectivity, so enjoy gigabit-level download speeds and low latency in multiplayer games.
Camera
The Huawei Nova Flip sports a 50MP dual rear camera system. The main 50MP rear camera captures some fantastic pictures with high detail levels, high dynamic range, and natural colors. The picture quality was quite good but didn’t exceed our expectations. Don’t get us wrong, the pictures are fantastic but shots from other foldable phones have slightly better quality.
The secondary camera has an 8MP ultra-wide camera, which is not as good as the main camera but not that bad either. It’s certainly above average and the detail level is quite decent. The only issues with this camera are the slight shift in colors compared to the main camera and a bit of distortion around the edges, which is present in other smartphones as well.
As for the selfie camera, it has a 32MP sensor that can take some great selfies with perfect skin tones. The general color tone of these selfies is natural and they have higher detail levels. As for video recording, the Huawei Nova Flip can shoot at a maximum of 4K from both the rear and selfie cameras. The main rear camera has OIS support, which will stabilize any video footage coming from this camera, but there’s no OIS or gyro-EIS for the selfie camera.
Battery and Others
The Huawei Nova Flip has a Li-Po 4400mAh high-capacity battery, so expect a battery life of about 1 – 2 days with light to moderate usage that includes some light photography, social media, texting, and others. However, if you play a lot of games, then the battery will drain faster and last less than a day full day.
As for charging, this smartphone also supports the 66W wired fast charger, which should fully charge the smartphone in around an hour. Apart from that, the phone also has Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, NFC, GPS, stereo speakers, and a USB Type C port for charging. HUAWEI announced that the pricing of the phone will be $714 (Rs 59,999 in India) approx.

Conclusion
The Huawei Nova Flip is a great foldable smartphone. Even though it is designed for a relatively budget price tag, it still has all the basics done right to provide a great foldable user experience. The phone has all the right specs and features, whether that’s in the display, performance, 5G connectivity, camera, or battery department.
There are other foldable phones in the market with better specs than the Huawei Nova Flip, but they also cost a whole lot more. If someone wants the best flip phone, then they can go for the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6. However, if you want a foldable phone on a decent budget, you can’t go wrong with this one. Considering the specs and features that this smartphone provides, its pricing is certainly justified.
The only alternative we can think of is the Honor Magic V Flip, which has a similar price tag but has slightly better hardware inside. However, the final decision is up to you, so it is better to choose a smartphone based on your requirements and needs.
