Huawei Nova 10 SE

Huawei Nova 10 SE Smartphone Review – The Huawei Nova 10 series are launched at the Berlin IFA 2022 event and the company introduces lots of new phones to attract the worldwide smartphone market. Besides this, the company has already released the Huawei Nova 10 and its Pro variant, which we have covered in our previous reviews. Now, the smartphone makers have finally unveiled the younger sibling of the Nova 10 series.

The phone is known as the Huawei Nova 10 SE smartphone which appears online in October 2022. Unlike the non-pro and pro variant, this handset is a downgrade to some extent so that the company can make this deal more value for money. At first, the overall built quality is pretty much the same in the Nova 10 lineup, whereas the hardware only supports up to 4G connectivity. Various things need to be covered, so let’s head toward the Huawei Nova 10 SE review to find out more details about this phone.

Huawei Nova 10 SE Smartphone Review

Highlights

  1. The device arrives with a 6.67-inches OLED panel with FHD resolution and 90Hz refresh rate.
  2. As for the software layout, the EMUI 12 custom skin will appear inside the interface.
  3. The hardware department brings the outdated Snapdragon 680G 4G chipset under the hood.
  4. A 108MP triple camera setup offers got image processing quality with a 16MP selfie lens support.
  5. In terms of battery, you are getting a Li-Po 4500 mAh battery with a 66W fast charging speed.

Design and Display

Design-wise, the phone looks pretty beautiful with a simple color layout. Although, you might not find lots of fancy shade options with the Huawei Nova 10 SE, color options such as Starry Silver, Mint Green, and Starry Black are looking elegant and premium. All of them look great, but if you are looking for something out of the box, you should check out Minit Green.

In terms of build quality, the Nova 10 SE might not have used premium material on the back panel. Still, the overall appearance of this phone is not that bad as you are getting a slim frame so the holding experience will be slightly better. Besides this, the device roughly weighs 184 grams, which doesn’t feel that heavy when you are holding the phone.

Even though you will receive a 6.67-inches OLED panel, the smartphone makers don’t provide an under-display fingerprint scanner. Instead of that, you will find the fingerprint reader on the side panel. Hopefully, the viewing experience will improve as the OLED panel brings immersive colors and crisp contrast with always-on-display features. Though, the refresh rate is stuck at 90Hz, which does feel underwhelming.

Memory and Internal

The hardware section is also average as the company is using an older 6nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 680G 4G chipset. It’s been a few years since we heard about this chipset in the smartphone. Anyway, the performance output is mediocre since the phone will fall in the mid-range segment. But we weren’t expecting that the Huawei Nova 10 SE smartphone would have 4G connectivity.

Despite this, there’s a high chance that smartphone makers might release 5G covers, which appeared in the P50-series phones. But for now, you have to rely on the 4G connectivity as those perks are currently exclusive to China. Anyway, the software experience is also pretty interesting as you will obtain the EMUI 12 interface skin. With this custom layering, the company does try to bring new and exciting features to the users. But at the same time, you won’t find any Google ecosystem support.

Apart from this, the gaming session would be decent, but playing advanced games would be a troublesome task as the Huawei Nova 10 SE doesn’t have a dedicated cooling system. Plus, long gaming sessions would be overwhelming for the processor. Moreover, you can choose between 6GB to 8GB RAM support that will accompany 128GB to 256GB internal storage, which is more than enough for every user’s needs.

Camera

The Huwaei Nova 10 SE camera is brilliant as you can click decent daylight photos with the improved image processing unit. The colors are natural, vibrant, and lively, while the contrast is crisp with proper exposure, which eventually results in fine details photos. As for the lowlight photos, the colors are slightly dull, but the image processing handles everything from behind the scenes.

But sometimes, extreme noise and distortion are visible in dark areas, while the camera app takes a few seconds to take images from night mode. Aside from this, the portrait mode pictures are good to some extent. On the camera island, you will find a 108MP primary lens that will handle overall photography, while providing 1080p video recording.

As for the secondary camera, you will receive an 8MP ultra-wide lens that will enhance the dynamic range, and there’s a 2MP macro lens. As for the front, a dot-notch 16MP selfie lens will provide immersive photos with the help of native camera filters and various modes. Overall, the camera results are presentable for social media.

Battery and Others

The Huawei Nova 10 SE smartphone comes with a standard Li-Po 4500 mAh battery capacity, which will provide up to five hours of screen time for numerous activities. Generally, you can play games for more than four hours and even then around 20% battery will have remained. Furthermore, the phone supports a 66W fast charger that only requires 45 minutes or less to refuel the battery.

As for the additional perks, the phone got a superb sound output with crisp and loud audio. Although, you won’t find a 3.5 mm jack here. Following this, the company makes sure the users are getting the latest sensor and comms sensor under the hood. As for the price point, the phone costs for starting variant are around $313 (Rs. 25,999 in India) approx, which is an OKish deal compared to the competition.

Conclusion

After logically analyzing each of the aspects of the Huawei Nova 10 SE, the phone does look like an overpriced deal in the $350 range. If the forget the fact that this device arrives with Huawei camera tech and an OLED panel, it’s just yet another mid-ranger phone without many appealing perks. Usually, we find some decent points about phones, but this phone isn’t able to justify value for the users.

Unless and until you are getting some discounts or offers, we won’t suggest you purchase this phone in the first place. If you are looking for an alternative smartphone you can check the Infinix Zero 2023 which comes with a better chipset and 5g support in almost the same price range. Finally, if you are thinking to buy this phone, make sure to compare it with alternative options to make the final call.
