Design and Display

The design of the Huawei Mate 60 Pro Plus follows Huawei’s flagship design but it’s a significant step up from its previous iteration, Huawei Mate 50 Pro. The body of the smartphone features a glass aluminum design. It essentially has an aluminum sideframe while the rear panel is made of glass. The aluminum sideframe provides structure and rigidity while the rear glass panel allows for wireless charging and also provides a premium feel. Overall, the smartphone has a solid construction and looks elegant with zero compromise in quality. Apart from this, the smartphone is 8.1mm slim and weighs around 225 grams.

On the front, the Huawei Mate 60 Pro Plus features a 6.82-inches LTPO OLED display panel with up to 120Hz refresh rate support and 1 Billion colors. The display is protected by Huawei’s own Kunlun Glass 2, which should provide resistance to scratches and shatters from drops. The entire smartphone is protected by IP68 dust and water resistance. Besides this, the device has default nits brightness so the outdoor experience can be a bit troubling. Anyways, the display supports Full HD+ resolution and renders true colors.

Memory and Internal

The Huawei Mate 60 Pro Plus is powered by the 7nm Kirin 9000S chipset, which is Huawei’s custom-developed chipset design for the flagship performance. The SoC can reach up to a 1×2.62GHZ clocking speed that is enough for everyday apps. The chip has all the power it needs to provide a smooth user experience and will run any app you throw at it.

The GPU powering the smartphone is Huawei’s custom-designed Maleoon 910 GPU, which has plenty of power to run all your favorite games, including Genshin Impact at the normal graphical settings. The chipset also has support for 5G connectivity and can provide true gigabit speeds, provided that your network carrier can provide such speeds. Overall, the SoC is decent but don’t expect to have high-end gaming from this device. Having a 7nm SoC for a flagship device can’t be ignored when alternatives are available.

The smartphone comes with Huawei’s new HarmonyOS4.0. For memory and storage, the Huawei Mate 60 Pro Plus is available with 16GB of RAM and 512GB to 1TB of faster UFS internal storage. Huawei Mate 60 Pro Plus also supports BDS Satellite connectivity, which can help you call for an emergency in case you are ever stuck somewhere with no network. There is support for hybrid card slots as well so storage won’t be an issue.

Camera

The Huawei Mate 60 Pro Plus has a 48MP triple rear camera configuration. This camera configuration is arranged in the following manner, a 48MP main camera with OIS, a 48MP periscope telephoto camera with OIS, and a 40MP ultra-wide camera with 120˚ FOV. The photos from the primary 48MP sensor have great detail levels with Huawei’s signature color tone and a high dynamic range. The 48MP telephoto zoom sensor is optically stabilized and can get 3.5x zoomed shots and the results are simply astonishing.

The 48MP ultra-wide sensor also manages the same amazing shots and this superior camera performance is also carried over during the night. The sensors are optimized to capture twice as much light, so the photos taken during the night have more details. The selfie camera at the front consists of a 13MP ultra-wide sensor, which can capture some great selfies with perfect white balance and even skin tones.

Even group selfies are captured perfectly, thanks to the ultra-wide lens. For video recording, the Huawei Mate 60 Pro Plus can shoot up to 4K videos@60FPS from the main rear camera as well as the selfie camera. Also, the rear cameras have support for both OIS and gyro-EIS, which will further stabilize any footage you shoot through this smartphone’s cameras. However, the selfie camera is limited. There’s also a special facial recognition camera system that is included alongside the selfie camera, which can be used to quickly unlock your smartphone.

Battery and Others

The Huawei Mate 60 Pro Plus is powered by a high-capacity Li-Po 5000 mAh battery. This battery can provide 1 – 2 days of battery backup with normal day-to-day usage. This is partly thanks to the use of power-efficient components, including the new chipset. However, with heavy usage or if you play a lot of games, then expect lower battery performance. However, there’s nothing to worry about as the Huawei Mate 60 Pro Plus supports multiple charging standards.

It supports 88W of wired fast charging, fast 50W wireless charging, and 20W reverse wireless charging. The 88W wired fast charger can fully charge the smartphone in just 30 minutes. Apart from that, the Huawei Mate 60 Pro Plus also has an under-display fingerprint sensor, FaceID for facial recognition system, dual-band Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, stereo speakers, GPS, Infrared sensor, and a USB Type C port for charging. The price of the smartphone starts at $1586 (Rs 1,31,890 in India) approx.

Conclusion

Huawei offered many impressive features on their latest flagship smartphone be it robust fast charging options or whether we talk about sensors. The device also comes equipped with an immersive OLED panel, a flagship camera, and many more features. The smartphone is not going to interrupt you on daily tasks and multitasking. However, those who plan for hardcore gaming and those who don’t have issues with a camera must go for something else. The Huawei Mate 60 Pro Plus offers a decent deal for camera-centric users while the same can’t be said for gaming as better alternatives are available in the market in the same segment.

Apart from this, the device lacks 8K recording support, better nits brightness support, and a flagship chipset even when flagship flip phones are already present. Therefore, in our opinion, the device is good to go with while you also get better deals at the same pricing. So, check out Huawei Mate 60 RS Ultimate and compare before arriving at any conclusion, however, the final decision is up to you and your requirements.
