Honor Play 30 Plus

Honor X7 Smartphone Review – The Honor X7 was announced globally in March 2022 and positioned this phone as an affordable alternative to budget Samsung and Xiaomi phones that are flooding the market. Being an affordable Low mid-ranger phone, the Honor X7 phone lacks the support for 5G. While the lack of 5G may disappoint some users, it is still one of the most balanced phones in terms of specifications.

This was a much-needed phone in the global market, especially at this price, which is mostly dominated by the Redmi series phones. In terms of looks, the Honor X7 smartphone looks very different from Samsung and Xiaomi smartphones in the same price range. With that said, let’s begin with a detailed review of the Honor X7 smartphone.

Honor X7 Smartphone Review

Highlights

  1. The Honor X7 features a 6.74-inches IPS LCD display with Full HD+ resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate.
  2. The phone is powered by the 6nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 4G chipset manufactured with an Adreno 610 GPU.
  3. The phone arrives with Android 11 OS out-of-the-box with MagicUI 4.2 user interface.
  4. The main rear camera sensor is a 48MP sensor, while the selfie camera is an 8MP sensor.
  5. The phone has a Li-Po 5000mAh battery and supports 22.5W fast charging support.

Design and Display

When it comes to the design of the Honor X7, the phone features an all-plastic design except for the display which is indeed glass. The all-plastic sides and back design may put off some people, but you have to see in terms of its asking price. Even though it’s all plastic, the phone still looks quite nice and thanks to some clever design techniques.

The plastic back features a matte finish and yet it reflects light in a way it makes it look like a concentring ray of light coming out of the camera module and looks quite stunning. Also, the lens size inside the camera module is also quite large which also gives the back a unique look. The phone is available for purchase in two colors, Ocean Blue and Titanium Silver.

As for the display, the phone features a 6.74 inches IPS LCD display with a 90Hz refresh rate support. The display is just perfect, even if it is an IPS LCD panel. The colors produced are well balanced and the saturation is just right and doesn’t look washed out at any angle. The display has only default nits brightness, so may face using the device outdoors. There is a bit of a chin at the bottom, but considering the price, it’s forgivable.

Memory and Internal

As for the internals of the phone, the Honor X7 is powered by the 6nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 4G chipset that can reach up to a 2.4GHz clocking speed. The GPU is not quite bad either. In fact, the Adreno 610 GPU is said to be able to handle graphically intensive games such as PUBG and CODm, at lower graphics to ensure a smoother framerate and so, the ultra or extreme framerate options are not available by default.

When it comes to the power-efficiency part, the chipset is very power-efficient, thanks to Qualcomm’s decision of going with a 6nm manufacturing process. The phone also doesn’t heat a lot, unless you start playing a game which is to be expected. The phone comes in two variants only, and gets 4GB / 6GB of RAM and 128GB of eMMC 5.1 internal storage. Besides this, you also get a hybrid SD card slot on the device. The phone runs on the Android 11 OS with the Magic UI 4.2 user interface and there is no news about the latest Android 12 OS on the phone.

Camera

This smartphone has a total of 4 rear cameras but the 48MP camera is the main highlight of the camera system and the rest of the sensors are just 5MP ultra-wide and two 2MP macro and depth and so they are nothing to talk about. The main camera shoots adequately detailed photos with a decent color balance.

The photos look sharp with a good amount of detail and they are not oversaturated. The details in the shadows are also adequately lit which shows promising HDR results. The 5MP ultrawide camera is quite average and nothing to boast about. Now, let’s move on to the 8MP selfie camera, which can capture a lot of details when there’s adequately lighting. The human subjects are also perfectly captured with this sensor.

The skin tone and the facial details absolutely shine through, so long as there’s good lighting. The quality drops during the night, but thankfully, the night mode saves the cameras. It won’t make your photos dramatically better, since it doesn’t reduce noise and increase detail levels in the picture. As for the video recording, both the rear camera and the selfie camera maxes out at 1080P at 30fps.

Battery and Others

The Li-Po 5000 mAh battery easily lasts more than a day on normal usage, so you don’t have to worry about the battery performance of this phone. With light usage, the phone may even last 2 days. As for charging, you get a 22.5W fast charger inside the box, which is great considering the fact that many companies are looking for ways to remove the charger from the box.

The phone has dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, and a USB Type-C charging port. The smartphone is on an online store starting at USD 170 (Rs 12,000 in India) approx which looks decent price for this phone.

Conclusion

The Honor X7 smartphone holds decent performance, high refresh rate, and battery capacity. Rest specs like camera, display, sensor, etc. are just average and there is nothing unique about that. Though there are downsides too such as no Full HD resolution support. Considering the price, some of the specs are manageable while some are not. Whether the phone is right for you depends on what you need out of a phone. With this budget, you can’t expect world-class performance.

If you are looking for performance and mediocre gaming, then this device can be an option while you can check the alternatives for a better deal. The Poco M3 Pro 5G is also a great alternative and comes with a decent battery, camera, display, and chipset support plus you get 5G, which is in demand these days.
